“There was a reason why we returned to the Padma....”
Reviewed 21 June 2010

We had a great stay (this time as a family of 4) at the Padma. After an initial hiccup (where they placed us in rooms with NO interconnecting door - A distinct inconvenience given the price we paid for two rooms and the fact that we had two children under the age of 4), the rest of our stay was fantastic.

The kids loved the renovated kids club and play area. Big hugs to Noni, Witarti and Sagung who are fantastic with the children and didn't bat an eyelid at a 3 year old's request to have her nail colour changed every single day.

The swimming pool was fantastic. A good number of chairs so that people didn't have to go without. The satay by the pool was lovely.

The new breakfast venue is fantastic as is the increased food choice.

The rooms were fresh and lovely and in brilliant condition, no mould issues. Free bottles of water a plus. Air conditioning a little bit questionable. One of our rooms was super cool, the other not so.

Super friendly staff, especially the boys at Security who always had big smiles. Arka...you melted our hearts.

The sunset bar is fantastic. Drinks overlooking the beach and sunset...a recommended experience.

The Padma has a lovely feel to it. It is luxurious but still affordable. Nicely placed amidst the many tailors, leather crafts people and spas. All a must to visit.

I feel a little bit sad and apprehensive about the impending additions and how it will affect the feel of the place. But overall, would definitely recommend the Padma for a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Although this hotel has had many positive reviews I couldn't resist writing another one. It's all tru! We thought the staff must of been on happy pills. They are all very accommodating, helpful, friendly and make you feel part of the Padma family. We paid a little extra for the Garden Club and this was well worth it. The cocktail hours were lovely and a great way to enjoy the sunset before heading off for an evening out. The Padma staff organised for us to visit Nusa Dua for one night at The Laguna and although it was interesting to visit we couldn't wait to get back! The staff greeted us with a 'welcome home'. The food was great and could not be faulted. The rooms are lovely and the gardens are full of beautiful sculptures. We will definately return. The stay at the Padma really was the highlight of our first trip to Bali.

Pluses;
The best strawberry daquiries in Bali - even my man is hooked now! The melon was my girlfiend's favourite - especially the frozen option - perfect!
Staff are outstandingly polite, gracious and helpful.
Pool is big enough to get some proper swimming lengths in and does not 'close' so you can dip and swim whenever you feel like it - nicely lit at night and oh so warm.
Pool towels in abundance, no towel police only allowing you one each, could have as many and as often as you wished - no charge and, they always smelled yummy and clean.
Always room at the pool, suspect because a huge chunk of the hotel had been demolished to make way for the new build project which, may I add, looks really attractive on the plans.
Walk in shower so powerful it will stick you to the opposite wall, fantastic - never ran out of hot water.
Breakfast is indeed the mutts nuts, we were Club Benefit clients and had the choice of 2 breakfst areas and therefore 2 types of breakfast and locations, the club breakfast had the beach view- we alternated as both were sumptious!
Japanese food night, whilst a bit pricey was excellent. Authentic, wide variety, fresh and very tasty.
Beds comfy and sturdy - no chasing it round the room or creaking!
Appointment of rooms reasonable and pleasant - cleaned every day. Good sized in room safety lock box, able to fit our SLR cameras in as well as all the other stuff, excellent.
Laundry service fast and efficient.
Club benefits - super air conditiooned, complimentary internet, afternoon tea and cakes, cocktail session (5-7) accompanied by snacks very nice and oh so civilised - quite a comfort to be able to escpe to it if you got too hot or, could not be bothered going out on the odd evening. Need to dress though (5 onwards), no flip flops or beach attire.
Because of the lush and costantly tended landscaping there was loads of wildlife around like birds, butterflys, dragon-flys, squirrels, bats, gheko's - really good fun. We had our very own resident gheko looking after the mossies on our behalf and a wee cheeky bird that came and demanded food every morning I sat out the back enjoying my morning cuppa!
All around the place there were ponds full of coi carp - whilst we have all seen this elsewhere, I think these were amongst the liveliest and healthiest I have seen

Could do betters;
Spa - looks beautiful, staff seem lovely - prices way too high. Girls came out to the pool area and offered free 15 minute massages to try and coax you in for a proper session but - its just far too high a price. Balli is known for its personal care and massage indusrty and used to be such amazing value you would have a massage every day! But, when I am looking at spending twice as much as at home in the UK, its just not hapenning. Available cheaper in the spas outside and even cheaper on the beach - maybe not as 'zen' as the on site spa...you decide.
Drinks, whether alcoholic or not are very expensive and of course, subject to 'plus-plus' - tax and service charge = 21% extra on top. Hence, huge bar area (main restaurant by day) never had more than 5 people in it that we saw, and we were 2 of them for 1/2 an hour that night! Mostly, the entertainment was playing to a huge empty space. A lovely space too, such a shame.
Would have expected the club benefit drinks to extend to the pool area, even if it was non-alcoholic only, as it is a pain to have to up roots and go into the club room for a drink.
Whilst rooms were cleaned every day, floor was not washed and developed quite a slippy greasy film from our 15 days of sun and mosquito protection sprays.
Minimalistic decor, whilst attractive was useless for storage. Drawers so shallow I could not even fit a bottle of nail polish in them - and I mean, laying on it's side. Wardrobe also small, especially for 2 people. There are pull out drawers disguised as a solid piece of wood underneath the suitcase rest spot but, you could only open them from the bottom (on the floor) and - watch your nails, even my hubbie suffered a nail injury.
Building work; we were reasured we would not hear the building work from our room but, this was not true. Whilst it was not as 'in your face' as some rooms - it did grate a bit - especially when they starting pulling late nights as well as the early mornings!

This was a very pleasant and relaxing stay. There was some building going on down one side of the hotel, and it happened to be right next door to our first room, 7am starts is not in my holiday routine, and metal cutting sounds with obligatory hammer were not the best of alarms. A quick word to the hotel staff and they made much more than a genuine effort to have us relocated to a quieter section of the hotel. Nothing was to much trouble. Staff were friendly, the hotel was clean and tidy the gardens were well looked after and the pool was large, clean and relaxing. It was easy access to most places in Legian and nowhere is much more than a $2 taxi ride in Bali anyway. The spa was excellent but a little expensive but there is more than ample choice for a fifth of the price out on the street. I have found that your choice of holiday spot in Bali and how much you enjoy it depends on the type of holiday you want. This hotel suited our style and was an excellent choice for us. We were not in anyway dissapointed with the staff, the service, the location or the rooms and gardens

A really lovely resort which is remarkably welcoming despite its size - it was much friendlier and with more character than many other nearby high-end resorts which we visited. Located right on Legian beach, which is not as lovely as Jimbaran, but is nearer the lively areas of Kuta and Seminyak which are just a short walk along the same beach (or cheap by taxi). For great food and drink by night, we would particularly recommend heading along to Seminyak. The rooms were very clean and with several nice touches, with a very spacious bathroom. Service was universally fantastic.

All in all, this is an excellent value hotel which still felt like a treat. If you are looking simply for absolute luxury, then perhaps this would not be for you (more on account of the nearby streets of Legian, which are really rather chaotic, rather than the hotel itself) but in our opinion the uber-high end resorts of Nusa Dua did lack some character; you could really have been anywhere in the world as they are largely shut off from the true Balinese lifestyle.

At the Padma there are also special evenings including Balinese cooking classes, all-you-can-eat sushi nights in the Japanese restaurant and private sunset barbecues can also be arranged. Our particular highlights were the cocktails in the in-pool bar or at the sunset bar, and the fabulous breakfast buffets which were possibly the best we've ever had.

We spend 10 nights are the Padma - our 2nd visit in 4 years. Still very nice if you are in a quiet room. There is a lot of construction work going on. We started with a room with an interconnection door and there was a lot of noise transmitted through this door by noisy people next door. However the every friendly staff changed our room to something away from construction and without the late night adventures of the new couple next door. Although I think this was helped by being in a Club room as reception seems more interested in our request when this was mentioned. Pverall would definately recommend.

We booked the Padma in the Club Chalet Rooms, beleive me when I say it is worth the extra. You receive full buffet breakfast every day the choices and quality of the food are what everyone says it is fantastic and so much...Then free soft drinks tea and coffee every day includes cheese platter in the afternoon and free icecream from 2.30pm. Then from 5 to 7 pm you get free drinks anything you want cocktails, burbon, wines and they serve you quick, then yes there is more you get free tapas which can range from tandori chicken to cornish pasties, it was fantastic we never needed to eat out, the rooms were big and comfortable everything supplied down to the toothbrushes, daily ! And the resort itself was huge. If you like Japanese then you must try the Japanese rest there it was amazing, fresh clean and any thing and everything made to perfection like only the Japanese can do.. With 9 days of bliss I am wondering if you could do any better? Also close to shops, beach, entertainment and food although you would never realize inside. PS the reno's you dont really know they are going on, we couldnt hear them from our room or the swim up pool. And all the staff from the gardeners to the reception were always happy and always made you feel comfortable and welcome well done Padma. Only one little thing the room service wasn't consistant we had to laugh when they forgot to put the sheets back on the bed, which was rectified as soon as we told them. They were great.
