A riot of colour and an oasis
of peace is the garden at Jayakarta Hotel Bali. The welcoming smiles of friendly staff and the blazing sun set above the warm waters of this beach front Eden make it my first choice when staying in Bali. I have visited this old friend many times over the past 17 years and hope to continue this indulgence for many more to come.
Younger hospitality establishments may score higher in inconsequential areas, but can't compete on sheer space and strategic location. If you have come to Bali for inhouse amenities, trendy decore and price is not a consideration, go elsewhere! Jayakarta Bali is an older hotel with a few quirks happily overlooked by me, as the overall experiance is delightful and something I write home about. The buffet breakfast is substantial catering to the Asian and European palat (even having Vegimite for the honoury Europeans).
Restaurants and bars of every ilk abound in the immediate neighbourhood and a complimentary shuttle bus can transport you further afield to downtown Kuta.
The rooms are adequate ; clean with fresh towls and sheets. The AC worked perfectly. The balcony was 'bejou' but what it lacked in size it made up for in view. My room on the second floor overlooked two swimming pools and the distant sea, and it backed-up on a delightful garden- feature fountain all swaithed in the dramatic colours of the blooming Frangipane trees and strarteling Bougainvillea.
I complemented the friendly staff on the exemplary garden and to my surprise and delight I was given a small Bougainvillea plant to take back to Jakarta as a souvenir. I would like to thank Mr. Mariana for his outstanding contributions over the years to my memorable stay. Worthy of a big thank you was Mr. Ari Darsana the Front Office Manager for going that extra mile.
I hope to return soon.

We recently stayed at The Jayakarta in a deluxe room and also in a one bedroom apartment. The Deluxe room was close to the pool and large enough to spread out. The rooms are old and outdated but are perfectly fine. The apartment was at the other end of the property near the entry gates. There is a bar across the road that played music until 1030 each night which was annoying and the noise from the road might also be an issue for people who sleep lightly; recommend you ask you a room on the other side as far from the road as possible.

The gardens are beautiful and the location, right on the beach, is just perfect for spending the late afternoon watching the sun go down.

In summary, the location of the hotel is the real bonus. Other hotels along this strip are over twice the price. The Hotel rooms and apartments do need updating but they all have exactly what you need for a comfortable holiday.

I should mention that the rooms don't have a safe and instead you have a security box at the lobby - old school style. The apartments also do a key drop.

Stayed here last month and having never been to Bali before i found it difficult to pick a hotel.
Upon check in the man was very unhelpful, kept telling me to 'hang on' while he served other people.
I paid extra for an apartment but wish id just had a hotel room closer to the pool, apartments are at the front of the property and very noisy with music from the bars etc.
The breakfast was great, nothing flash but good enough. We loved the pools and the location.

When I first arrived I thought what basic accommodation, however, at the end of the holiday (10 days) I realised how great it was. As mentioned, rooms are basic but perfect for children as there is little that can be damaged. Our room was very clean and sheets and towels were changed daily (necessary with young children and sand). There are several fantastic pools and plenty of pool chairs. It is right on Legian beach and also the shops again perfect with young children. Breakfast was as good as you could get anywhere and you dine in a perfect relaxed atmosphere. Snacks were ok but I would suggest dining out as food is cheaper and better and no hassle due to location. What really makes this hotel is its staff. In true Bali tradition they are all smiles and very obliging - nothing is too much trouble. All in all if you have children then you couldn't do better.

Room Tip: We like ground floor so children can run onto the grass. Our rooms 501/503 had a pump outside that was irritating all night.
