“Great location, safe, friendly staff, affordable.”
Reviewed 17 February 2010

We first stayed in an upstairs superior room which was adequate, great aircon, good quality sheets but didn't offer a private balcony. After our trip to Ubud we booked back in to The Baleka and asked for a downstairs superior room. This room offered two rooms. In the entrance room there was a tv and a day bed which can be closed off from the bedroom. It was roomier and next time we will ask for a superior downstairs room again. The hotel is very quiet. Staff friendly and food very affordable and of good quality. If you have not paid for breakfast upfront, better off going down the road as 6US dollars is quite expensive for what you get, not buffet and small serves. Taxi's are available at the door, great location. Pool is clean and lovely. Although there is a pool bar this is not not operational. An ATM is right next door to the hotel which is handy. I would stay again.

Baleka Beach Resort is situated in Legian. Not right at the beach, but in a walkable distance. The price is a bit high, but you get good service. The room is standard, but good. The service is good, the view from the standard rooms at the garden/trees is nice.
The only thing is when you travel in the period that the australians have their holiday, it can be a bit noisy. And we were glad that we didn't stay at a room close to the pool (which is newly renovated and is good swimming at), because it can get noisy there too. But at the lower numbered rooms you can't hear this.

We stayed at the Baleka for 3 nights & had a superior room. We new it was budget accomodation for 3 nights so didn't expect to much ( we were headed to our beautiful villa for another week after the Baleka)
Room was spacious & clean with a seperate sitting area with daybed & another tv just inside front doors. Bedroom was large with tv & a safe which we used straight away - we had nothing go missing. Bathroom was clean but on the small side. Our shower was HOT & great water pressure & the aircon was cold but a bit noisy & smelly - nothing some incence didnt fix!! Had read previous reviews and was surprised that the hot water worked - maybe it was because our room was right up next to the reception area.
The bed was a kingsize & reasonably comfy but the linen & pillows were very worn & looked unclean. We had lots of mozzies in our room but we went out & got some mozzie coils to burn & that helped. The bintang was always cold!! Found the guy with the rolled up paintings very annoying while waiting endlessly for some pool towels from reception. Found that you got better service if you were male!!!
We didn't eat to much at the hotel but went next door to have breakfast at Hot Mango as it looked much cleaner & was good.
We new it was budget & didn't expect too much & really only booked it for the location & price. But were pleasantly surprised at the spacious room & hot water & air con that did work!!! I did ask for a new pillow as mine was really dirty & got a newer cleaner one straight away.
Dont think that we would stay there again - Would recommend that anyone staying there spray it for mozzies and ask for a superior room near reception as these appear to be the renovated / updated rooms.
