We stayed for 6 nights, great room, attentive service and great breakfast- simple, filling and elegant. The hotel/ resort is far enough away from the busy road, no traffic noise or other nuisance noises, as long as you like the rustic charm of 7am roosters!

Lunches were pre-ordered, as part of our activities (local diving) and served at the pool or restaurant. Beware of dinner costs, if you start drinking the wine!!! At about 50,000 IDR for babi guhling and rice, then add tax + service charges, not inexpensive. Better to try a local Warung. Staff were helpful in suggesting dining and arranging local (or more expensive, hotel) transport to Candidasa- for lunch, dinner or shopping. Limited shopping, usual hawkers, but no where near as bad as Kuta.

Fishermen hauling in nets at the beach in front of the resort, motorised outrigger boats are available from the beach front at the resort all add up to an idyllic setting in a part of Bali that is yet to catch up to the congestion and pace approaching.

Room Tip: Corner suites are emormous and twice the price. Our room was ground level, very easy access to pool...

We stayed at the Alila for a couple of nights.
It's a great hotel. Room service is excellent. The staff are well trained, very friendly and always prepared to assist and help.
The food is excellent.
The hotel is about 2 hours away from Denpassar on the east coast. Very well situated, away from the crowds. Within easy driving distance from the dive sites and the volcanoes.
It was a great place to stay and I would definitely recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. We stayed on the ground level. This way you have 2 entrance doors and maybe it...

The secluded beaches and stylish resort was a great getaway from the normal hustle and bustle of main tourist areas of bali. I could not have asked for a better service from staff, everyone is so friendly and willing to help. The room was a dream and food was to die for. If you need to get around and visit different areas of east bali i most definitely recommend our driver Surya. He speaks english very well and knows the best spots for tourists to visit. Call +62 818 530 8373 for his service.

I have just stayed 8 nights in Alila as part of a conference.

The email correspondence before getting there set the standards and they were prompt and quickly were able to sort out some last minute schedule changes along with a fast track visa at the airport which turned out to be just awesome and probably saved me over an hour late at night...

The travel car had also been arranged and a fresh drink and comfortable seat were very welcome at what was 1am my time. It is an hour and a half from Denpasar but it went by quickly.

The resort staff even at now 130 am had some local ginger tea and honey to drink as I filled out a short form and as they got my bags into my room... i was quickly escorted there and happily sunk into a very comfy bed!!!

The rooms are well set out with a mini bar with a few items, a kettle and some tea and coffee...and even a plunger which was great! There is no milk as such which might be worth adding, but there is satchets of cremer. There is no bath as such but a lovely big shower space and outside there is a balcony area with a comfy outdoor day bed, chairs and table.

The staff were very attentive and professional.... food was fantastic and there are plenty of food and wine options. The service quick. The resort could probably do with a kind of bar area for drinks and nibbles... maybe something down near the beach? that is the one thing a little lacking... however sitting on the balcony of the restaurant area is a wonderful outlook and you can do that from there to some extent...as well as from the pool...but i think something extra with big seats near the ocean would add to the resort?!

The pool is really fantastic and the view out across palm trees and lawn is very relaxing!!. You can order food and bevies by the pool which was easy to do.

It made for a great conference facility with over 100 attendees. The staff easily organised this and provided afternoon tea and lunches.

As it was a diving related conference, some of us went scuba diving and it was easy to reach many fantastic locations for this from here.

I would highly recommend this resort for those who want a relaxing break away from it all...and it is easy to do day trips from here to all sorts of sights and activities:)

I stayed here for a week as a '+1' whilst my wife attended a SPUMS conference at the resort. We stayed in a deluxe room on the first floor. All the rooms overlook the centrally located pool. The rooms are a standard rectangular hotel room but feel larger because of an open balcony with daybed overlooking the lawn area surrounding the pool. Our room was very comfortable, air-conditioning was fine, good range of coffee, tea-making facilities and bathroom amenities first-class. We slept very well, comfortable king-size bed and quiet at night. The open-air restaurant was a highlight, excellent food prepared by a chef who has been at the property for many years, Alila prides itself an being an employer of local people and villagers. The food is resort priced, (because we were staying at a resort!), and very good quality. It is a mix of Balinese and what the chef describes as "fusion food". Cheaper food is readily available at the local village Candidasa, 10 minutes drive down the road.
It is a pretty location overlooking the beach, there is a thin strip of black sand beach. I spent quite a bit of time reading in the shady 'bale' overlooking the beach with a sea-breeze. You can swim in the ocean here, be mindful of currents which can be fickle.
There was heaps to do, I chose a number of activities that are listed in the hotel guide; two treks and one guided drive to Besakih temple, all were of high standard with knowledgeable local guides. The property also has bicycles which you are welcome to borrow, along with a helmet, for a ride on some of the quieter backroads; they supply you with a 'mudmap' and, not surprisingly, ask you to sign a waiver form before you venture out on the bicycle!
My wife said the diving was excellent also.
I highly recommend this resort for its location, tranquillity, commitment to local employment and the environment, and highly motivated staff.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms have a balcony with daybed, so feel more roomy.

Ideal location. Close to dive sites. Very accommodating and attentive staff. Beautiful food (although expensive). Central pool perfect for lazing with afternoon tea. Stunning special occasion set up for the conference dinners. High end service. Somewhat overpriced especially for Bali, but for a first trip it did not disappoint. There is a cheaper spa across the road and lovely cheaper restaurants outside the resort.

Dear Drlizzie,

Firstly, many thanks for taking the time out of your day to provide valuable feedback pertaining to your recent stay with us, much appreciated. We certainly recognize that this took time out of your day for which we are truly thankful.

Furthermore, please accept my sincere apologies for our inability to exceed your expectations specifically referencing pricing in our restaurant and spa.

Please be reassured that our food prices in the restaurant are aligned with our neighbouring cafes, restaurants and hotels in Candidasa. Moreover, the pricing strategy is far less than the key tourist accommodations sectors in Southern Bali as our approach is focused on true value for money considering the unique location.

On a more positive note we are delighted to learn that our team has provided you with excellent service quality and acknowledged plus acted upon all requests / requirements to the fullest extent. Rest assured that I will certainly share your positive comments with the entire Team especially with those whom shared genuine warmth, care and made you feel at home with us.

For the future, and when you next decide to visit Bali please be encouraged to contact my office prior, to which I will manage all arrangements for you personally. I am certainly confident in our ability to restore your loyalty to Alila and I look forward to this opportunity in the near future.

Once again, thank you for conveying your constructive feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back to Alila Manggis soon.

Best regards,

Sena

We stayed here as part of a three week tour of
Bali and arrived from Ubud. The hotel is in a lovely location on the beach, although it was too rough to swim. The large pool compensated for this and it was very pleasant to relax beside the pool, which was immaculately kept. Food and drink could be served poolside and it was a pleasant place to have lunch. The spa is excellent and we had two massages while we were there. I chose the seaside bale, which was a novel experience. We had a choice of oils, and ginger tea was offered pre massage and a delightful passionfruit sorbet afterwards. I did two yoga sessions, which were free of charge and held oceanside. The instructor, who I think was called Gede, had a lovely manner and offered a class that was just challenging enough. There was also free tai chi, but I didn't get round to that. The food was amazing. The restaurant is open sided and placed on high ground, so very good ocean views. Excellent breakfasts, good seafood and Indonesian specialities, prepared by a very talented chef were a highlight. We only went to Candidasa, the nearest village, once for lunch and took the free shuttle offered by the hotel. There isn't really much there that would tempt me to eat out of the hotel. We had an upstairs room, which was pleasantly furnished and equipped, with a very comfortable bed and a nice balcony with daybed. The room itself was a bit small in terms of not much room to put your suitcases, which is really the only negative I can think of. East Bali is pretty quiet, so don't come looking for nightlife or excitement, but this is a great place to relax, recharge and enjoy some healthy activities and good food.
