I was a bit concerned that the property might be worn out or dated given its age but it was actually beautifully maintained. Apparently the new GM, Claudia, has been working quietly away at small refurbishment works and it certainly shows. Our villa had a spectacular view facing the sea, both indoor and outdoor lounging areas and little personal treats like pecan pie awaited us every night when we got back. Infinity pools are as beautiful as they look in photos but you might need to hustle to get one of those coveted bales as they are 'reserved' quite quickly and are then occupied for the entire day! The massages I had were the best Ive had since a life changing experience with the FS Maldives and should not be missed. Ask for Sri! It's certainly a high end property with room rates that reflect this but in my opinion there is no better beach front resort in Bali!

If you are looking for a very secluded, quiet, peaceful resort with excellent food and a nice private beach, then this is a great spot for that. Suites are quite large and comfortable - small details are extremely well attended to (e.g., the cold towels they offer all have some nice floral scent added to them - just "above and beyond" on the attention to detail). Food is quite good and nice mixture of Indonesian and Western. If I had any critiques: traditional Indonesian music on the patio at night is somewhat irritating; the drinks are quite weak :), i craved a television eventually given how secluded the resort was; policy for booking the fitness room is annoying - someone had blocked off 7-830am for my whole stay - really, you should only be able to book the day before and only for 1 hour at a time - I was forced to go 6-7am because of this.

That said, the service was really fantastic - only 1-2 hotels I've been to have ever beaten it. If you are really looking for a peaceful, zen-out escape with only ~20-30 guests and expense is not an issue, you will likely not do better, period. That's not exactly my cup of tea - I would likely give a 4 star based on my personal preferences, but objectively, this really is a 5 star resort.

Oh - they spray for mosquitos. Not a single bite over several days, including leaving doors open at night. Don't know what the rest of Bali is like, but frankly, that was damn near incredible! Claudia the manager is also quite nice.

Room Tip: Well, frankly, it seems all the rooms are quite good. We had some of the best views with #23 and #2...

This hotel is in a secluded place, on top of the hills with a spectacular view to the sea and 3 infinity pools like i've never seen before.
The moment you arrive every one knows your name and every little request is never ever forgotten.
We went on a tracking through the rice fields and I felt on a mud hole and my tennis were all dirty and covered with black mud. The moment I arrived at my room I had a small note saying to drop my tennis on a basket outside so they could clean them. On teh next day my tennis arrived immaculate on another basket and my socks also clean and wrapped in satin paper!
Every waiter was really kind and tried to speak an understandable english making conversation and explaining everything.
Food was well cooked with very fresh ingredients
Definately an experience to repeat

Room Tip: choose a room with ocean view

Stayed here for my honeymoon and could not be happier with our stay. You get your own private villa and get treated and can feel like you are the only people staying at the hotel. The entire staff on site knows your name – activities we did included a private beach dinner, dinner on top of a hill overlooking terraced rice patty fields, and treks into local villages. The staff is very helpful and provides lists of daily activities you can try. If you are on your honeymoon, they will give you a free 60 minute massage.
I was hesitant to stay at an Aman but bought a package as a part of my honeymoon and could not be happier with the decision.

This property is designed into the hill landscape which gives it a very surreal feeling of beauty that blends into nature. Like every other Aman we have stayed the staff feel like family and the service experience is unique and excellent. Though we were not keen on the black sand beach here the resort more than made up for that through the beautiful pools and even the amazing pool in our suite. The room was incredible and we felt like Balinese royalty showered with flowers every day in our room. This is a must see resort in Bali and for that matter the world.

After having spent some days at Amanpulo five years ago, we opted this year for Amankila on Bali. It sounds awfully boring to repeat all the wonderful things that have been said in earlier posts about this resort, but I can only confirm them again and again. Where can you find a resort spreading over 11 HA (28 acres), with a maximum of roughly 65 guests being spoiled by 250 friendly and dedicated staff? The location is superb; the 31 “suites” (which are in fact beautifully decorated villas, some with its own pool) are spread over the tropical landscape. You have the choice of four swimming pools (one 40 Meters long), a palm trees fringed beach with black volcanic sand, a beach club, a bar, two roof covered but for the rest open restaurants (no freezing air condition), one serving breakfast and the other diner with a broad variety of Western and Asian food imaginatively prepared by a young and enthusiastic chef . Amankila opened 23 years ago but has been immaculately maintained with every possible care for the smallest detail. A new GM is in charge since the beginning of this year and you can sense her strong leadership with the staff maintaining at the same time very close customer contact talking and listening to all the guests every day. My judgment is clear; Amankila is the very best you can get and Aman remains at the top!

Room Tip: You get what you pay for. Suites with own pool cost more.
