“Anniversary trip”
Reviewed 6 August 2011

Staff was great when we checked in and even when we had questions about anything around town.
The hot tub was overfull my wife couldn't sit on bench without the water being over her chin she had to sit with her knees under her. The pool is small.
The room was great everything was neat and clean.
The wife and I had a great time. Breakfast was good we had a food coupon for free breakfast for first day, second day we ate we paid it was a little spending for selection.

We arrived on a Sunday for a week-long World Series softball tournament. Rooms were ready, very clean, staff was super friendly and helpful. Our entire stay was virtually problem-free.

The beds were super comfy. The pillows fantastic. Room was very clean and was cleaned nicely every day. Staff was always ready and willing to answer questions, give directions, suggestions, were very patient and understanding of the noise and confusion a group our size can make/have. Breakfast was included in our package deal and it was great. Nice variety, nice to be able to order your eggs the way you wanted them.

There really weren't any problems, other than the pool is just too small for teenagers and the pop machine on our floor was out of order all week. Oh, the air conditioning was loud in our room, but truthfully, I haven't stayed at hotel that didn't have that problem. And, given the heat wave we suffered thru while there, I wouldn't have cared if it sounded like a freight train all nice long as long as it worked!

The staff was very understanding and professional when our entire team checked out 2 days early. Should we go back to MO for another tournament, I would have no hesitation to staying here again. Mall, movie theater, restaurants, KC Royals all close by.

This was our second family stay here in two months. Here are the positives: 1) Location- very convenient to the KC Royals stadium, the Independence Events Center, a large mall, movie theaters, restaurants, and strip malls. 2) There is a beautiful walking/biking trail just outside the hotel. 3) The breakfast is not free (unless you have connections for coupons), but had a nice selection of cereals, sweet rolls, fruit, as well as a grill for omelets, bacon/sausages, biscuits & gravy.

Now for the bad: 1) Our room had NO internet connection at all. None of our electronic devices could detect a wireless signal in our end, fifth floor room. (No wireless in our third floor room last month, either.) We could not access the internet when using the provided power cord or using our own power cord. A maintenance man did come to the room, looked at the wall, said he would reboot the system and call us to see if that might help. We never heard from him again. I could sometimes get a wireless signal on my ipad in the lobby (first floor), but not always. 2) The cooling system in the room is extremely loud and when on blows air forcefully right at the bed. The thermostat did not kick on the A/C until the room was about 75 degrees, then blew your head off when trying to sleep. Grrrr. 3) The children with the family we were traveling with were planning on swimming after breakfast. Unfortunately, the pool was closed at this time. Since the pool is closed from 10pm until 5am, one would think they could adjust the pool chemicals during the closed hours. 4) The vending machines on ALL floors were inoperable (due to vandalism according to a posted sign). A very small pantry has items for purchase in the lobby.

The negatives seem to override the positives, so we will probably try another hotel in the area for our trips to Independence in July and August.

I slept very well on a most comfortable mattress. Room appeared to be clean and well appointed. Was expecting to see a flat panel LCD television as most other Hilton properties. The management really should get rid of the old 1990's tube type televisions. I enjouyed the work out room and used the pool in the morning. Enjoyed the pool but was shocking small. The hot tub sucked. Dirty water and could barely feel the whirlpool jets. Was disappointed in the breakfast buffet. Table service was not very personable and the women cooking the eggs was not friendly. Nobody seemed very happy working the buffet. I spoke with the manager on duty and expressed my comments and concerns. She was gracious enough to offer a genuine apology and even went as far to provide me a certificate for a future comp stay at this hotel. Overall, I think the hotel is a pretty good place to stay in Independence. PLEASE UPGRADE THE TELEVISIONS!!!!!!

Bad things first. The place is a bit run down... not sure what to point at as an example; it's just that the whole hotel as a old feel to it. The room was fairly large, but the AC was loud and positioned right next to the desk (uncofortable when it turned on while you were trying to work). One of the elevators was being fixed, so the remaining one was overused and took forever. But what took the cake in this category was the internet connection: exasperatingly, ridiculously slow. I know I've been spoiled at home and other places by having fast internet, so it may seem petty of me to single this out as a "bad." But the connection was honestly as slow as I can remember it when we all had dial-up connections. And, on top of that, the connection would just fail routinely.

On the "good" column, I have two biggies: price and location. This hotel is about pretty close to Kansas City, and at less than $100 a night, it's a bargain. Very convenient. Service was nice. There's a beautiful running trail that starts right behind the property. Last but not least, as is usual in Hilton hotels, the sleep quality is wonderful.

We traveled over eight hours to get to this hotel to stay the night and visit the Truman Museum the next morning. We had the trip planned since February, and I called and reserved two rooms for two families(two adults, two kids--one a teenage girl). We carefully RESERVED a room with a King bed, a fold out and a cot for us and our kids. Upon check in we were told they have NO room like that, even though it was confirmed several weeks prior to our arrival. There was a lot of fooling around, and frustration as to where to put us. What we ended up with, after all of the fooling around, was a Queen bed, a heavily used cot, and a 1 inch, plastic covered, MATTRESS ON THE FLOOR for our son. Ewww. We were given the choice to go to another hotel and leave the hotel we reserved with the family we were traveling with...that was not an option. Here is a word problem (among many)...how can we get a room built for 2, but receive 4 tickets to breakfast in the morning? Thanks to Ivan in House-keeping who tried to solve the problem, AND shlepped the heavy cot and mattress up to our room, but, as of yet, no word from management. On principal, I can't see myself staying at a Hilton Garden Inn in the future. Oh. And if you are looking for a pool, they have one. My husband and two kids could hold hands and stretch out across its width. Not designed as a relaxing pool to swim in.

Definitely would stay at this hotel when I would be in Independence. The front desk was so friendly, hospitable, informative. We had the buffet breakfast and they brought us the coffee and juice. All seemed happy to do whatever jobs they had, which makes you feel welcome. Room was extremely clean, excellent rating.
