Beautiful and relaxing, watch out for the bugs

Review of Alila Ubud
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Jun 2013
Lovely hotel, beautiful location and fantastic pool. Consistently good food in the restaurant. We stayed in a Valley Villa, which was private and comfortable. Only downside were the bugs in the bathroom - it was regularly sprayed but they got in somehow. I guess this is inevitable given the jungle location! Excellent spa

Dear Londoner,

It was a true pleasure to have you stay with us!

The lush, natural surroundings are indeed stunning and relaxing, but also home to various animals including monkeys, squirrels and also bugs.

While we do conduct weekly fogging plus provide complimentary mosquito coils in each room, there is always a possibility that bugs enter.
The villas are equipped with screens around all ventilation areas in the bathrooms, I will ensure to inspect these to ensure no gaps are present.

The team from the Spa sends their fond regards, thank you for visiting!

We look forward to welcome you back!

We enjoyed our stay at Alila Ubud very much. The breakfasts with Western & local cuisine were wonderful and the staff was friendly and helpful. The shuttles into Ubud are limited and it is quite spendy to get a taxi. There were also many steps to get to our superior room. This is not the place for people who can't climb steps and walk a lot. The view from our room was beautiful and tranquil. The infinity pool is the best I've ever been in. There was a lot of noise that comes through the walls and thatched roofs. We could hear our neighbors "way too much." Even with the downsides I would recommend this unique hotel far from the crowds in Ubud.

Room tip: Top room where the noise and monkeys may be a little less.

Hi Kuzoo,

Glad to read you enjoyed your recent stay with us!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, much appreciated!

We have added a 17:30 shuttle recently in addition to the existing schedule, offering guests the opportunity to enjoy some of the Authentic Dances in the village or dine out.

I have noted your input on the sound proofing, we will look into possible solutions for this during our annual maintenance programs. Appreciate your input on this!

We look forward to welcome you back!

Alila is situated among rice patties and high above the river. The views and grounds are peaceful.
Pros: peaceful, relaxing atmosphere, pool, bar soap smells awesome, staff is friendly and helpful, food is really really good. The breakfast has a menu that you can choose from and everything is delicious. The free yoga in the morning is awesome. Great instructor.
Cons: the only con that I can think of is that the shuttle bus going into Ubud runs in the am with the last one going to town at 11am. The next is at 3pm and the last is at 5:30pm. Therefore, if you want to go into Ubud for dinner or a late massage, you have to take a cab back to hotel. Dinner at hotel is pricey. Really pricey-and the menu doesn't change like it does for breakfast.

Thank you for visiting us during your visit to Bali!
Always a long flight from the US, so glad to be able to welcome you to this beautiful part of the world!

Great to read you enjoyed the location and our culinary efforts, especially breakfast.
The daily changing menu is indeed very popular.
Whilst breakfast changes daily, our lunch and dinner menus offer different selections, as well as the Plantation Restaurant and CAbana Menu's offer different selections.

The Tasting / Degustation Menus change every 3 months following the season.

Visit us again and you will be able enjoy another selection of dishes!

We run the shuttler service twice after breakfast at 10 and 11 plus now 3 times in the afternoon (after the warm part of the day) at 3pm, 4pm and 5:30pm.

We look forward to welcome you back on a future visit!

Stayed here for three nights in the beginning of May with my bf. Our room had a lovely view of the pool. The room itself was pretty standard but quite disappointed that they did not include a bathroom. Many bugs so bring repellent. Bath products were so-so but i liked the soap which was made using locally sourced ingredients.

Breakfast - love their a la carte menu with great selection of juices, teas, coffee etc. Food selection is limited to about 10-15 items: yogurt, bread basket, eggs, traditional balinese items...quality is really good though.

Complimentary afternoon tea from 4pm everyday. Choice of coffee or tea and 2 balinese style cakes. Not worth coming back from ubud central just for this but if you're relaxing by the pool anyway it's a nice touch.

on 2 out of the three mornings we had an early start and couldn't make it for the breakfast in the restaurant. Informed the front desk and they had a breakfast box prepared for us to take it on our trip (at 3am!).

Stayed here during our honeymoon, this hotel was just exceptional and has become our benchmark of an excellent hotel.

Room was very stylish with beautiful views of lush green hills and jungle. Outdoor bath tub and shower feels like bathing in a waterfall - great design, and spa quality bath products.

Breakfast and dinner was very good, and they do a fine cappuccino.

Staff were the warmest we have met and a very impressive infinity pool perched on a hill top.

This place is the perfect place to relax, would return or recommend.

We stayed for only two days but it was so peaceful and relaxing it felt like more. The infinity pool was amazing and it was fun to watch the monkeys playing in the trees. The hotel organised us a trip to see a temple and the volcano and of course some of the countryside around which was really interesting, the driver we had was great and was a really good 'tour guide'.
We only ate at the restaurant once but as they changed the menu daily it would have been easy to eat there more often. The other night we went into to Ubud to 'Naughty Nuris' - very rustic but good food and amazing cocktails (our cosmopolitans came in pint glasses!)
Would definately go back for longer - but be aware that it isn't really disabled friendly - lots of steps and no lifts and definately more of a couples place than geared to families

Room tip: We asked to be moved nearer the Restuarant and pool as the room we were originally allocated was quite a distance away and a lot of steps

Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience!

It was our pleasure to welcome you to this beautiful part of the Island.
Glad you took the opportunity to explore the hinterlands with the volcano, temples etc.
The Vehicle Host passes his regards, he enjoyed the trip and interaction as well!

While two days is a great start, there remains a lot to be explored.

We will look forward to welcome you back, let us know, so we will ensure to arrange your preferred room again!
