“Overrated, overpriced”

This is a weird place. The good- kindly staff, views. However, Very tacky art, garish sculptures throughout. Paid for a deluxe room and had a middle floor room. Rooms very poorly oriented. Overpriced room service. Location very far from town. Staff uncomfortable helping make restaurant recommendations. In room coffee maker did not work. Overall surprised by all the good reviews- expected much more.

I have been to over forty countries and stayed in hundreds of hotels. This was one of the best, if not the best, I have stayed. The hotel is luxurious, the rooms are spacious and clean, the staff is helpful and friendly, the environment is magnificent and tranquil, the breakfast delicious and large. The food in the restaurant is worth a Michelin star. Perhaps by the standards of Bali it may be on the (slightly, taking into account the facilities) expensive side but for a European it is a terribly good value for money. The only disadvantage is the distance from Ubud, but taxis in Bali are not expensive. Highly recommended and I do hope that I will have the opportunity to visit it again.

After 4 nights in Kuta/Tuban, the plan was to experience another side of Bali. Ayung didn't disappoint! After a lengthy taxi ride, we couldn't wipe the smile off our faces once we saw our room and the views. Afternoon tea is complimentary and the huge lounge chairs so relaxing. We went to the elephant sanctuary, rice paddy and volcano from here and into Ubud. We only stayed 2 nights, but for us that was enough. Only downside - our food orders/room service were never quite correct, but we didn't really mind. If you want peace, quiet and tranquility this is the place.

We are lucky enough to have travelled to 30+ countries and to have stayed in hundreds of hotels. This is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The art and antiquities collection alone is reason enough to visit. The pools are beautiful and the setting is superb. Magical views and wild monkey friends. The rooms are beautiful and perfectly appointed. A true rainforest escape. The staff, however, are by far the best reason to stay here. Every single staff member is friendly and they really can't do enough for guests. Bali is a very poor island and many resorts are foreign owned. This hotel is Indonesian owned. Our favourite staff member (Komang) was so so good to our little boys... she even bought them goodbye presents with her own hard earned wages. Lovely people, beautiful setting. We were truly blown away by the food... amazing! We are vegetarians and the food that we were given was genuinely world class. A wild monkey (called Kevin) came and said goodbye to us. A perfect stay from start to finish. The staff even made us a (free!) cake for our wedding anniversary!

The resort itself is luxury - the staff is well trained and friendly, the restaurant is good although expensive, the room was clean and luxurious. But several other guests and I commented to each other that something felt a little, well, off. Hard to put my finger on exactly what it is. Maybe that it's the really remote location? Maybe that the art collection that decorates the property is a little over the top? Maybe that there's no communal area where you see a lot of other guests? Maybe that the guests are split between two main building and several guest houses? I guess you'll have to decide for yourself.

Super important to note that Ayung Resort Ubud is about 30 minutes from Ubud proper. Ayung Resort Ubud is technically in Payangan (not Ubud) nestled in a stunningly beautiful location in the rainforest above the Ayung River. The resorts runs a few complimentary shuttles back and forth to Ubud during the day and charges for evening transportation ($7.50) or off-schedule transportation ($15 to Ubud).

Room Tip: I stayed in the Sita wing which is a 10 minute walk/hike downhill from the main building/lobby.

We have stayed in some great hotels over the years and in fact had just come from the Mulia in Nusa Dual, which was a really great hotel. This is something unique however. The setting is magnificent as are the staff. The food is absolutely delicious and the carving in the hotel is breathtaking - you would assume that you were in a temple or museum rather than a hotel. We stayed in the Hanuman villa - again breathtaking - both for the view of the rain forest in the valley and down to the river and also for the traditional wood carved construction of the villa itself, although with definitely non-traditional facilities as there is a very large, modern and lovely bathroom and great beds with surround sound TV/music system etc. It is fairly pricey by Bali standards, but compared to European hotels, which might be as luxurious but most wouldn't have anything like the character, it is actually very reasonable indeed. Anything remotely like it in Europe would be several times the price. All in all I really can't recommend it enough and if you want to stay near Ubud, this is definitely your place!

We stayed for two wonderful nights at Srikandi villa. Very polite and fast responce services, the people there always smile and the food are superb! The spa - love the balinese massage! There are many deers and we can help to feed them. We can also watch the monkeys coming from the forest near the villas. Can't wait for another visit next time!

Room Tip: Srikandi villa is near the gym center and amphi theater for yoga session every morning
