At the end of 800 metre bush track on the northern Bali coast is one of Indonesia's best kept secrets. Having spent most of life in Australia's Kimberley it was great to see the Balinese having a go at what Broome used to do best. Off the shore you can see the pearl netts from the end of a 40 mtr jetty. They look to be hanging in around 10 to 20 mtrs depth in beautiful clean water. The showroom here at Penyabangan is upstairs right on the beach. There is a selection of top quality round pearls ranging from 10mm to 15mm in size priced between $500 to $3000 in price. About 30% cheaper than what you would pay in Broome. There is quite a large selection of beautiful baroque pearls also but for me the highlight was the superb quality of the sterling silver jewellery that is on display. Luckily for me it was 70% off the day I visited. I will be back again next year for sure!
