“Excellent resort. Close to perfection.”
Reviewed 12 May 2012

Not perfect but it is close to paradise. Very Nice room (not noisy as I read in reviews) and amazing bathroom!

Swimming pool, access to the sea (with snorkeling area that is 5 meters from the shore!!!), service, huge surface for very few bungalows, breakfast (not very big but very good), not crowded at all.... all this was perfect.

Negative: wifi access (it works sometimes!), price of restaurant (but you can find some cheap outside), rat in room (but they offered another room very rapidly).

We spent 3 days at this beautiful resort. The staff were so helpful and friendly, they tried to make our stay as nice as possible, there was some construction work going on while we were staying at Pondok Sari however it didn't bother us at all, the workmen were pleasant and brought life to the sleepy little Pondok Sari village! I can imagine how silent and quiet it could have been had the construction work not been going on! However as most of the resort was under construction we only saw a small part of it, its seemed to be quite big.... I doubt I would like to stay there in high season when every bungalow is full!! Low season was just fine even with the sound of work going on!
As most of the resort was shut off, the only bungalows available were those near the pool and beach, which was great! Im sure in high season you would have to book months in advance to get one of these well placed rooms! We would have liked to stay in one of the deluxe bungalows as they are just incredible with detail but unfortunately as we hadn't booked in advance we missed out!! That will teach us to book ahead next time! despite the deluxe bungalows not being available we did find the basic bungalow had everything we needed.. it was very clean and comfortable and at night it was so peaceful and quiet! it was also lovely to come back to our bungalow in the afternoon after it had been cleaned to find new bottles of water and fresh flowers everywhere.. even on the bed! The outdoor bathroom in both kinds of bungalow are lovely.. its so nice to be able to shower outdoors and hear nature around you!! The only off putting feature was also being able to hear your neighbors showering or using the toilet too just over the wall from you!! We only had neighbors for the last day so it wasn't a big deal.. but in high season when the place is buzzing I can see it being more of an issue!! Maybe some of the other bungalows are more private.. who knows...
The pool was lovely and tranquil... there were only 8 guests staying there at the time so even if we were all around the pool it wouldn't have seemed busy!! There seemed to be more staff than guests even! So we felt a little spoiled.. we didn't have to wait more than a minute to be served at the restaurant over looking the gorgeous beach and turquoise sea! We ate every meal at the restaurant, the food was great.. I especially loved the coconut and lemon juice drink! As it was so quiet we were able to try out almost all of the tables and view points from the restaurant overlooking the pool and beach! Everywhere you sit you get a great view.. there is even a lovely lily pond with frogs to watch if you get bored of watching other tourists and locals wonder up and down the beach!! The only time the beach got noisy was when a group of local children showed up to play a game of football... at first I was a little annoyed by the noise but then when I started watching it became quite entertaining.. some local adults and other guests started to join in to and it became quite an event!!
We used the dive center everyday as my partner is a keen diver and I wanted to snorkel as well as have a go at diving. We found the staff extremely professional and all of their equipment seemed new and well maintained! They were extremely organised and efficient, we arrived at 13.30 and my partner was allowed to join them for the 14.00 dive without any prior booking!! This may have not been the case had we been there during high season but they do seem to be very accommodating! I enjoyed my introduction to diving, the staff were very professional and thorough, first talking to me about diving and hand signals under water etc.. then showing me how to use the equipment in the swimming pool and making sure I was comfortable with breathing under water and using the equipment before taking me to the beach to explore their amazing coral reef project.
We enjoyed visiting the spa at the resort, it was beautiful and calm.. the staff were lovely and the treatments were great. I had a 4 hand massage, a body scrub followed by a flower bath and a pedicure - It was all worth every penny, I highly recommend treating your self there!! We also tried out the after sun treatments as we got a bit toasted on the boat to Mengangen island and I had my eye brows waxed.. all of which was also great!! I think it would be crazy to stay at this resort and not try out their lovely spa!!
I think for what you get at this resort it all seems fairly priced.. its a little piece of heaven!!
I hope we can go back one day!!!

We spent two days here and left wishing that we'd had longer. The rooms are dark and wooden, and might not suit everyone, but we found ours to be ful of character. The grounds are lush and old. If you want manicured, don't go here. We loved the beach which was free from hawkers and which you could snorkel from. Not fantastic snorkelling but there were boat trips if you wanted better and I was very happy with what was there. Excellent restaurant. In response to previous comments about the German owners, they are perfectly capable of good English and she was very friendly to us. Pemutaran is a long way to go, but having previously experienced Lovina, if you want real beauty and tranqullity, it's worth the effort.

We stayed in a Deluxe Bungalow for 7 nights - and it was certainly worth the extra $40/night to have the large lounge room area downstairs (which opened onto a large semi-secluded garden area) plus an entire 2nd floor with a huge table and double day bed. We loved the abundance of drawers, carved wood everywhere, outdoor bathroom with mirrors extending along 3 walls, and the (surprisingly deserted) hotel swimming pool. We had no problem with noisy neighbors, as the one common wall connects at the bathroom not with the living or sleeping areas.
Our A/C was not working on the first night. When we reported the problem the next morning, it was re-gassed and then worked perfectly. To their credit, the staff continued to check our A/C for the next few days to make sure that it was still OK. When we reported that our shower water-pressure had dropped to a dribble, it was immediately and effectively restored. For us, the sign of a good hotel is how quickly an issue is resolved. We could not have been happier with our accommodation.

We agree with the other reviews here - snorkeling off the beach front - over the 'electric coral' - is spectacular. The Pondok Sari Dive school is unjustifiably expensive. Head over the road to YOSDIVE. For significantly less cost you get a friendlier attitude, the same dive/snorkeling sites PLUS a great meal and bottled water.
Whilst the Pondok Sari's free breakfast did the job, the restaurant was usually empty because the food is plain and uninspired. Strangely, they do not offer room service.
BADINI Restaurant - a 2 minute walk down the road - was always busy because their food is DELICIOUS (and cheap!). We also recommend the RARE ANGON SPA - 5 minutes walk away - support the locals and have an incredible 90 minute massage for $15.

PLEASE be warned - the Standard Rooms are cheaper because they are TINY. You can expect noise and privacy problems. On the other hand, if you book ahead and secure a Deluxe Bungalow you should have a luxurious holiday accommodation experience.

Room Tip: Better diving, food and massage are available off site, but this is one of those rare cases where &q...

My wife and I stayed for 3 days at Pondok Sari and we loved it. We had a room close to the pool, restaurant and beach lounges so we didnt have to go far to cover most of our daily activities. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed in during our Bali trip so it was a bit of a splurge but at 600000 rupiah per night incl a great breakfast it wasnt exactly a budget breaker. The staff were consistently helpful and polite and got to know our preferences in just a couple of days. The beach area in front of the hotel is protected by huge trees and the combination of almost full shade and steady breezes from the placid sea made it an especially good spot to spend a lot of time. The aircon in our room wasnt too efficient but after asking about it there was some improvement made. We would very happily return to this hotel.

Room Tip: A room down by the pool area is a good idea as the resort is quite large and the area you are most l...

We stayed 2 nights at the Pondok Sari, in a standard room bungalow no 8. We did not have a problem with noise like some of the reviews. The room was a bit dark, but clean and good enough for the price that we paid. Outside bathroom was different !! Staff were not over helpful or friendly, breakfast was pretty average and we had one evening meal there which was ok. We ate at the Frangipani restaurant over the road which fairly expensive by Bali standards but the food was good. Took a snorkeling trip with Yos dive shop opposite the hotel, good price for a trip to Mengjan (sorry for spelling) Island, which was great included lunch of noodles and chicken and transfers to and from the hotel. The beach was clean and reef in front of the hotel they are constructing is coming on and good to snorkel over. Overall not bad for the price.
