“top in Bali”
Reviewed 3 December 2011

in summer we visited Bali and ended up in Tabanan in the new Alila Villas Soori.it's everything you can dream of for an unforgettable few days in Bali.
unique location betwee sea and ricefields
western seaside restaurant and indonesian restaurant; we tasted both and still can't decide what's the best.
near a small village where you can have contact with the way of life in Bali
everything was perfect.
we had a free update to the three room recidence (more space than at home :-)) because all the vila's just near the sea were allready fully booked, a very spacious place to stay
because it was our wedding anniversary we received a lot of extra attentions like special room decoration with a hearth of rose petals on the bed and in the bad, extra sweets in the evening; personal housekeeping, ..
ok it was expensive but worth every euro
best location in Bali for special moments

Room Tip: if you want the full luxury experience try the residences

The place is great, nice views and stunning villas. Breakfast very good choices and service.
Room service dining needs to be improved in quality and delivery.
Too many guards around, i know it is for the guest security but they need to be less visible.
The grounds behind the villas and not very well kept. Maybe it was the time of the year.
Beach is great for long walks.
Perfect place to relax.

We came to Bali for our honeymoon and when we decided to stay at Alila Soori we knew it was far from center. But not thaaaat far. We took 2 hours to get here and it's not worth to leave the hotel to see the city, which we would love to do, since it's our first time here. But ok, once you get to the hotel, you forget everything else. The place is beautiful. People are so nice all the time. Food is delicious. They have a wonderful pool (our room also had one), which is good, since the beach is not good at all... Well, it's worth to come here, but just know it's really far! : )

I have mixed feelings abt Alila Soori.I will share my experience in points and leave u to decide if it is pro or cons.

-Driver-punctual, local balinese
-Very remote..embedded in a rural village
-nothing much to do nearby
-horse riding on the beach
-segway available but v costly
-bicycles rental for free, or USD15/hr for a guide
-Near a bat cave, free
-Very costly meals
-Stunning beach view but with roaring waves
-Apple TV with reasonable selection of movies and music
-Excellent preparation of toilertries from face mist, sunblock, suntan, sun care, shower gel etc
-tip-top internet connection
-Nespresso machine with free coffee capsules
-Lovely library
-Very helpful host
-Expensive airport transfer

All in all, very upmarket but warm services come with high price tag. If you r rich and don't mind paying a premium(u must nt be fussy), then u can consdering staying in alila soori for a day and move out n explore elsewhere. ;p

We stayed at Alila Villas Soori from Oct 24 to Nov 1. We have a mixed feeling about this hotel and we should probably have taken more information about this hotel before booking our holiday there. First of all, if you intend to stay there for your honeymoon, this is surely the right place, otherwise not, and for the following reason:

Hotel

Positive: lobby, swimming pool and room (ocean front villa) were stunning, well-thought design with high taste for decoration and details. Spa treatment were one of the best (if not the best) my wife has experienced so far. Fitness is also well equipped and with air con. Small hotel which is highly appreciable.

Negative: if you haven't a room with a pool there is only one swimming pool quite away from the terrace villa. You don't have a rightly dedicated bar or lounge just two or three "open air" sofas between the restaurants.

Location:

Positive: nicely located in front of the ocean except for the terrace villa

Negative: you can not lie down on the beach (too dirty), you can not swim because the ocean is too powerful and has to many waves (which could also be an inconvenient during the night if you have a light sleep). One of the most important negative point of the hotel, which should not be taken lightly is that you are far (very far) from everything. Count at least 1 hour 20 minutes to go to Ubud as well as to Seminyak and even more if you want to go further south. If you are in Seminyak in the evening you will find no taxi to drive you back to the hotel therefore take a driver from the hotel (we paid from 3 pm until 11 pm 500 rupiah which is also not cheap). There are also no taxi you can take from the hotel and are obligated to take a driver from the hotel. Ask for a driver that can really speak english, at least it could be entertaining during the drive...Simply said do not think you can eat or have a drink outside the hotel easily.

Food and Beverages:

Positive: breakfast was very good with good choices changing every two to three days. (no buffet at all)

Negative: dinner was ok but not more. We had dinner in both restaurants but didn't really enjoyed it. Choices are very limited, food was not especially tasty and very (very) expensive. To make a comparison we dinned once at the KuDeTa in Seminyak which is also known to be expensive but prices were the same but food was definitely better. In dinning room was ok. If you intend to dine outside the restaurant take into account the driver plus dinner (total more than 1 mio rupiah)

Management:

Satisfactory: we were probably not that many to stay there more than a week, and would have appreciated to be a least greeted by the hotel manager as he was now and then at the restaurant during the breakfast.

Poor: before our stay we were asked about our preferences which we completed. One example: soja yoghurt for breakfast, my wife could enjoy to have it twice otherwise they forget. My question is why asked if not properly implemented...

Very poor: at the check out no one aked us about our stay, experience at the hotel. No customer satisfaction form, nothing just pay and good bye (at least that was our feeling). The receptionist can not properly speak english and can't asked you about your stay.

All in all, as I previously mentioned, mixed feeling: hotel 5 stars from the design and infrastructure point of view. Food and beverages: 4 stars but not more. Management: satisfactory. Price-performance ratio satisfactory. We will not stay there again.

We stayed in this stunning place for a weekend away with 4 adults and a little one. The villa we had was gorgeous, the private pool a blessing. The staff was extremely helpful and really on the lookout to serve us in the best way possible. The food was very good and really accommodating to special wishes. We specifically liked the attention of the general manager a lot.
We would definitely return, and highly recommend it to anyone.
