“Paradise awaits”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 December 2013

This was our first trip to Bali and I fear it has set such a high standard that we will not be able to stay anywhere else the next time we go.

This is a tranquil location set onwards of an hour and a half drive from Seminyak and Kuta, but believe me, once you get there you don't want to leave to go into the high tourist areas of Bali. The resort has everything you need, just there (we left to go on a couple of pre-booked tours to the the high tourist areas and didn't enjoy them as much as relaxing at the resort).

The architecture of the place itself is stunning and simply breathe-taking as you enter. We felt a little overwhelmed initially, but within just a couple of days it started to feel like home. While the location and rooms are amazing in their own right, we would go back there because of the staff. They were incredibly helpful, friendly, social and efficient and went above and beyond for us.
The food is excellent and top restaurant quality, and the prices are reasonable given the remoteness from the main centre of Bali.
Our room (One-bedroom Beach Pool Villa) was amazing and incredibly spacious, with our own pool literally outside the lounge room doors and the beach itself was only 100m away (not a swimming beach though).

We stayed there for 7 nights and were very, very sad to leave. I couldn't recommend this place more highly.

Room Tip: We stayed in the One-bedroom Beach Pool Villa. We were escorted through all the rooms during our st...

After having experienced Alila Villas Uluwatu we now enjoy Alila Villas Soori. This hotel chain should be kept secret ! Alila is heaven ! Simply the best hotel chain ever experienced. Tranquility, top personal service, incredible architecture, top Michelin star food, beautiful large pool villas. Just can't wait to try the other resorts.

This was our first trip to Bali, and the first two nights we spent at Alila Soori. Understandably it's not to everyone's taste, especially the dangerous, non-swimming beach. On the other hand, we were happy to open all windows (no bugs) and enjoy the pounding surf just a couple of hundred feet away. The "villa" was superlative, with amenities such as a private pool, an outdoor shower, a comfortably furnished lanai, etc. Food was terrific - just try the local fare. Why stick to "western" food after flying thousands of miles to get to Bali..? Breakfast also included local specialties. There is not much to do at the resort. which itself is in the middle of nowhere, but that suited us just fine. One rather unique (free) attraction, though, is a small cave in a cliff at the end of the beach, where hundreds of small bats roost during the day. Then, around 6pm, as if on cue, they all fly out of the cave, much like a flock of starlings, to go hunting bugs. The show's over in 30 seconds, but it's much fun. Definitely one of the best resorts we've every stayed at.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room on the second floor - to protect your privacy...

the accommodation was great, there is a private pool for our room at ground floor that was facing the beach with black sand.

service with personal butler was top class, the food was amazing! though we were there for 4 nights, the first 2 nights were spent enjoying the at the soori. only had to head out to seminyak one night to meet up with friends.

We stayed here for 2 nights and absolutely have no regrets. The service was spectacular! I have to admit that I'm definitely not of those easy to please clients and they have indeed done an excellent job! I do not have any particular name of staff to quote as they are all good. We stayed one night at the mountain pool villa and 2nd night at the beach front villa. Close to 2 hours after we have checked in to the beach front villa, the housekeeping staff rang our door bell. My careless husband has left his wallet, our passport and an Audemars Piguet watch left in our previous villa. He was shocked and the same time thankful for their honesty. During our second day, we took a walk at the black beach, and we realized there were a few locals walking around at the beach area as compared to the first day. After checking w the staff, we were told that it is Bali's celebration - and a public holiday, so many people went for prayers at the nearby temple and therefore, took an evening walk at the beach area. Later in the evening, feeling rather uncomfortable as we are staying at the beach front villa, I was paranoid and afraid of trepasses. I called up my the front office, and they have assured me that they have guards stationed for watching and standby along the beach area. Im absolutely please to hear that. Food was great! service is spectacular. Everything is so personalised. highly recommended

We stayed here for one night only. And totally regreted it! We should've stayed for 2 or 3 nights. It's a perfect place for a hideway and honeymoon.

The service is great, The villa is perfect. We stayed in the ocean view villa (2nd floor), it was absolute bliss. The breakfast is very personalized and delicious, and pretty as well! Out of the two restaurants, we love the Indonesian food one better. More spicy.

Overall, we were very satisfied with the villa and one day we will come back. Very expensve, but it's worth every penny.

Room Tip: take the ocean view villa on the 2nd floor. you'll get the best view.

Food:
- There are two restaurants at the resort as well as in room and poolside dining
- The quality of the food is excellent and there is a varied menu
- One restaurant focuses particularly on Indonesian food, in our view this was the best place to eat, the food was great and the menu selection was always varied and interesting
- The other restaurant provided western fine dining, we ate there once and while the food was good it was nowhere near as good as the indonesian food
- Breakfast menu changes daily over a week and is essentially a 6 course or more tasting menu, absolutely fantastic for breakfast lovers out there, great selection of juices

Villas:
- We stayed in a mountain view villa and were very happy with this choice
- The villa was very spacious, had a large pool, a large cabana and a great sized villa with very comfortable bed and amazing amenities
- Note to other travellers, the beach front villas look amazing online however didnt appear to be very private and the villas on the ground floor at the beach didnt seem to get much sun, in this respect the mountain view villas are a great choice and they are the cheapest, have a good level of privacy and fantastic views of the mountains and rice paddies

Service:
- All staff at this resort were amazing and consistently did everything within their power to make our stay a memorable and enjoyable one
- The staff are clearly very organised and make the extra effort to clean the room when they knew we were at breakfast so as not to interrupt us, they knew our names everywhere and all management were aware of our daily planned activities as a result of daily staff briefings
- During our stay there was a wedding and a significant increase in guest numbers at the resort. Despite this the staff went out of their way to ensure that the other guests were taken care of. The only morning there was an impact was after the wedding reception at breakfast where service was a little slow, however the staff did everything that they could to remedy this and we weren't bothered as we were on holiday.
- Special mentions to the poolside staff for providing excellent service (specifically Dewa and Adi) and always being there for cool cocktails and lunches

Things to consider:
- The resort is located in an isolated location and so the only eating options available to guests are the resort facilities, this was great for us as we really enjoyed the food however if you wish to eat at a range of venues then the resort will arrange a private car for you to travel to other venues (approx an hour away)
- The resort is located on a beautiful black beach of volcanic sand, this is a unique spectacle and should be experienced however it is not a safe beach to swim at due to numerous rips (however every villa has a private pool and there is a great infinity pool overlooking the beach with cocktails)
- We did the culinary journey which was excellent, however this experience was not a hands on cooking experience although we did get a private chef to cook us lunch so we cant complain
- The segway journey is a great way to see the surrounding villages however takes a little getting used to
- The spa has a stunning setting and treatment rooms and is an overall great experience

Highly recommend this hotel, probably the best we have stayed at, we will absolutely return to Alila in the future!!!

Room Tip: Mountain view villas are private and spacious.
