“Tree House living in the Bali forest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2013

We were very fortunate to stay in the Tree House bungalow for three days and it was great. The multi-leveled room had fabulous views of the jungle and also of the valley and city south, showing Kuda and on a clear day, Ulu Watu. You could even see the surf. Dining was casual and the food delicious, especially the salads. We enjoyed the walks around the complex, the resident monkeys, and the garden tour explaining the Lodge's composting and native plant uses. We took a trek with Wayan to see some ruins and learn about various trees and plants, about 3 hours. There are several activities to participate in: yoga, wood carving, sandstone carving, but we didn't have time. We had no complaints and would highly recommend this jungle adventure!

We recently stayed at the lodge and although it is peaceful and beautiful - it wasn't for us with a family with two young children. I must have also misinterpreted the website as for some reason I had envisioned my children being able to participate in village activities and do wood carving etc as part of the overall experience - as the price of the nightly stays was quite expensive. I did not realise that you actually had to pay additional costs to participate and as we had already paid a fair amount for the villa we really couldn't justify this additional expense.

It is also located away from everything so once you are there you have limited options on where to eat etc and again although the food was great - it was expensive compared to other places we have eaten in Bali.

The other reason why it wasn't for us was with two young kids (aged 4 and 7) was we felt compelled to tell them to be quiet all of the time! This was by no means the lodges fault but it was just sooooo quiet and everyone else staying there were also sooo quiet we felt whenever our kids were noisy they would be disrupting everyones else's experience. Even at dinner time - the restaurant was incredibly quiet and no one was really talking to each other which isn't our style at all.

All in all this place would be nice if you were a couple wanting to read some books and go for walks but I would not recommend it for a family with young kids as personally i felt we experienced more of a true sense of Bali culture in the outer skirts of Ubud where we really were truly staying amongst the locals.

In terms of the accommodation - we stayed in the Jungle Villa which was lovely but the shower offered barely a trickle of water the entire stay and the steps at night to the toilet are incredibly dangerous for young kids. Ours nearly fell down twice - we ended up having to leave the bathroom light on which is discouraged as the lights attract the bugs.

We shortened our stay from 3 nights to 2 nights and would not return but in saying that the lodge itself is beautiful - but simply not the right place for us.

Oh, it's such a shame to read your review & to realise you didnt read our website fully, which clearly states that we bring in our locally community for workshops and pay them directly for their time & skills they share with you- it is our lodge intuitive to highlight & bring economic returns to our talented local Balinese community.

All the prices for workshops are clearly stated on our website as is also stated that we are in a remote location- No TV's, No shops & No other restaurants - this is the beauty of the lodge.

You can't compare our meal prices to other locations- who use MSG, non organic ingredients and do not have the cost to transport imported ingredients to our location. Our meal prices are ranged from AUD$ 4 - $12 which is far from expensive, I feel for quality food.

The Balinese love children as do we, it seems like you were at the lodge when there were other guests that didnt work for you, which is a shame and out of my control, we encourage guests to mingle and get to know each other, many guests have become friends by joining together on walks or taking dinner together.

We have had over 1000 guests with young families over the years, none have felt uncomfortable here with young children based on our reviews and guest feedback.

I appreciate that you state the lodge was not for your family, it is upsetting for you to rate our lodge as unclean, with poor service, and sleep quality- there is not a sound through the night, our meals & staff are what most guests appreciate here & our bungalows are clean.

Kind Regards
Linda vant Hoff

Wow. What a magnificent space Linda and her family have created. It's a clean and truly conscious environmental haven. Well done on raising awareness about sustainability in bali. Aside from this the bungalows are gorgeous. Most are nestled into the rainforest with sweeping views as far as Uluwatu. Take a walk through the edible gardens past the newly constructed yoga bale, down to the river where you will find natural pools and lovely little water falls or walk down to the Koi pond and relax in the peaceful cool air hoping to see the turtle pop up.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, stay in one of the rooms with a view of the coastline- spectacular.

We had the pleasure to stay at the Sarinbuana Eco Lodge this summer and what a wonderful experience! The place is designed in such a manner that it blends in with the surrounding nature, which gives a relaxing vibe to the place. The fresh food they serve at the restaurant is locally grown and delicious. Very interesting to see the vegetables growing around the lodge and later that day on your plate.

The way in which the Eco Lodge operates should be a blueprint for more lodges and hotels in Bali; creating interaction between locals and tourists ,learn about the nearby environment through guides, and being sustainable and thus avoiding a negative impact on the earth.

Highly recommendable!

The lodge is really peaceful, it is a cool place to walk around on the area of the lodge. Their is a lot to see, such as a fishpond and a bamboo relax house. There is also a lot to see in the surrounding area, such as a rice paddy walk and a walk to the temple on the mountain. The rooms are good, there is a good bed and a nice shower. The staff who are working on the lodge are really nice. The food in the restaurant is really good. The view from the restaurant is really good.

Definitely one of my favourite place in Bali. Clean air, magnificent nature, tasty organic food and many more reasons for me to go back there every now and then. Staying at Ecolodge made me realise being in the nature is way more relaxing than any luxurious bed that 5 star hotels in the city could offer. My rainforest walk was stunning experience, I was quite tired at the end but being surrounded in nature can't be explained in words.
Great service, cozy rooms and kind owners make me go back there for absolutely relaxing holiday.

This place is situated about 1.5 hour drive from Kuta. It is located in a lush forested area, it's isolation means that the only noise is that which the forest naturally provides. With the exception of one bungalow the other 5 are relatively isolated, and the only time you will see or hear from your neighbors is when you go for a meal. They will service your room when you are at breakfast so you are free for the entire day, if you feel like it, to relax at the lodge and enjoy the scenery. I recommend you take the short free one hour tour of the property where you get to find out about the work that has gone into making this an eco friendly lodge. At times I felt like I was 12 years old again, exploring all the tracks laid out to the waterfall, fishpond and other areas at the lodge. There are paid treks you can take, but there is also a map in your rooms that provide self guided tours. As everyone as mentioned the food is exceptional. It's been two months and I still remember the Jungle Special.
