The Desa Villa is truly amazing. The images of the beautifully appointed villa, infinity pool and stunning views out over the ravine really only tell half the story. What sets this villa apart is the incredible service provided by Made, Ayu and their wonderful team, and always with a smile. Their attention to detail from presentation of the bedrooms through to the delicious home-cooked meals was first rate. The staff were quiet and unobtrusive but always close by and ready to help whether we were after a cup of coffee or help with our travel plans. The accommodation itself is every bit as well-presented as in the photos. The air-conditioned bedrooms are clean and well-appointed; the open-air living area a comfortable place to read a book or snooze, and the bathrooms had everything we needed, right down to spare toothpaste and toothbrushes. The villa is located in a small and very quiet village about 10 minutes drive north of Ubud, but there are still a few great restaurants and spas nearby such as Alam de Ubud and Karsa Spa & Café, each with their own beautiful backdrops of jungle and rice fields. It's also worth noting the road from the village connects directly with the amazing Campuhan Ridge Walk - we walked from the Villa to Ubud along the ridge in about 45 minutes. In truth, we're still trying to work out how such a stunning private villa with such great and attentive staff could be such great value, certainly when compared with some of the major nearby resorts. The Desa is a must for your shortlist of Ubud accommodation.
From the time the personal driver collected the 4 of us from Denpasar, this was a holiday to remember. The seclusion, the views across the ravine and the the extra mile that the staff covered to ensure EVERYTHING was perfect. Meals were better than restaurant meals, and there was an amazing choices of food for dinner, as well as breakfasts that made us all want to get out of bed. We only ate away three times in ten days.
Speaking of bed - my wife didn't want to leave it, as she thought it was way more comfortable than her own. The infinity pool was fantastic. Made and Ayu were exceptional hosts, and nothing too much trouble. They organised the 30km downhill bike tour, a half day tour to temples, an invitation to local religious ceremonies, and sold us fresh coffee grounds from Made's farm.
The other couple hired a scooter through Made and went north rather than into the busy Ubud, and came across elephants crossing the road. I had a couple of massages down by the pool.
Very highly recommended, and you will not regret booking this venue!
