“Best hotel for visiting Obihiro”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014

This hotel is a Nikko property which, I believe, is being operated in cooperation with Japan Rail Hokkaido now. The room was small..a bit larger than a business hotel in Japan...but much better appointed, with high quality toiletries and a very comfortable bed. The hotel issues small wifi routers free of charge, which simply plug in to the room LAN cable. Internet speed was more than acceptable. I had no problem streaming the hulu video service while in bed. A multi-connector charging cable is thoughtfully located on the bedside table.

The front desk asked my friends and I if we would like to be upgraded, without our having up made the request. Very nice! It may have had something to do with our friend mentioning we were getting together to celebrate his birthday, which, if true, was very thoughtful of them.

The hotel is located one minute's walk from the Obihiro JR station. Underground access through the hotel parking lot is also available.

We went out on the town at night, and the convenience of the hotel to the station made getting taxis, and orienting ourselves, quite easy. The next morning, the hotel breakfast buffet was very nice, and reasonably priced at 1000 yen. The food choices were somewhat limited, but of reasonable quality. Some local foods were in evidence, and fresh vegetables and bread led us to overeat!

All in all, good service and a pleasant experience for a very reasonable price. Would definitely stay again.

From the moment of check-in until check-out everything was perfect about this hotel stay! The staff were very helpful and the room was great value for money. The hotel is located right next to the train station and shops and restaurants are just a few minutes walk away. I asked for a wi-fi router (free of charge) and the internet was fast and reliable. I didn't have breakfast included in my plan but I decided to pay for breakfast the next morning and I am I glad I did. The breakfast was a full buffet with lots of options even for the pickiest of eaters! I thought it good value at 1,500 yen (about $15). I will certainly stay here again the next time I am in Obihiro!

Hotel booked by Japanese colleagues, so I was in their hands. Room was comfortable and big enough (including the bed). Food was to a good standard, I had every breakfast there and only one lunch on the 6 day trip. Beware that breakfast is more Japanese style than European, but I got used to the pork stir fry and rice for breakfast - it was very nice. Staff were friendly and helpful.

This is a fairly high-end hotel, yet I got the room at a great price through JAPANiCAN.com. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and more spacious than a lot of hotels in Japan. The hotel abuts the train station, making it super convenient. It is close to the city library and art museum. Go through the train station and you are at one of the city's bus terminals and a large restaurant district. I did not take the breakfast plan, so I have can't speak to that.

We stayed here for a night as a stopover on way to Lake Akan. I have no complaints.

Located just next to JR station, it was just 2 min walk to the hotel. Minutes walk to the shopping mall across the JR station. Lots of dining and shopping choices in JR station and nearby.

Check-in was quick. Staff were professional, responsive and fluent in English. Every staff knew his/her role exactly. Very well trained.

Hotel seemed fairly new. Room was small but comfortable. It had everything you would need on a trip. TV with international channels. Phone chargers also provided. Free LAN connection in the room. WIFI available only in lobby area. There was coin laundry and vending machines on the 4/F. We didn't try it but it appeared there was a small onsen available for use by hotel guest for minimum cost (~JPY500, I think).

We went to the famed Pancho Butadon (the shop that invented this dish) that was just across the JR station for dinner so we didn't try the restaurants in the hotel.

Parking was available for JPY 550 a night.

Book early for special rates.

Overall a very pleasant experience, as Nikko hotels usually are. I would highly recommend it.

We stayed for 1 night here to gain access for a day trip to the Lake Shikaribetsu Igloo/Ice Village. It was a good choice, because the bus leaves right from JR station, all the way right to the lake. although it was about 90 mins each way, the bus ride was free of charge. We arrived by JR train, and the hotel was conveniently right next to the station, a stone's throw away.

Hotel staff were excellent, polite, professional and goes above and beyond to assist. In particular, we were very impressed with K. Nakamura, a female receptionist us checked us in and out. On the day we checked out, and then head to the igloo village in Lake Shikaribetsu, she offered us an umbrella and informed us that it was forecasted to rain. She was most helpful too with the management of our baggage storage.

The room we had was quite small, but normal/average by Japan standards. Free Wifi was available by obtaining a device from reception free of charge and returned on check out. Wifi speed and connectivity was excellent. The double room was made up of a double bed, which can be quite small for 2 people, if the individuals are on the larger side. We had a nice view overlooking the JR station and, whilst staying on the 9th floor, we did not encountered significant noise issue at all. Bathroom amenities, were basic and reasonable. No small bottled shampoo available to be kept, instead large bottles of Shiseido labelled shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were provided. Shower pressure was excellent.

No gym or pool available, and noting another travellers comments, a fitness centre in the nearby convention centre is available for low cost.

Food is not an issue at all. Within walking distance are numerous eateries if you have time to wonder out and walk the streets, otherwise diagonally across on the left is a shopping centre, housing a supermarket and quite a selection of reasonably middle class Japanese restaurants within it. For even closer options, the JR train station had excellent options. On the opposite end of the station, from where the hotel is, holds a store with a bakery, sweets selection and a handful of restaurants including a specialised buta-don (local speciality of marinated pork on rice) and right next to it, an excellent restaurant serving freshly made onigiri and tempura on rice (we tried the shrimp(ebi) and pork(buta) onigiri as well as the crab seafood (kani-shifuudo) tempura on rice that I would highly recommend). We loved the buta don as well, although this is also served in the hotel Japanese restaurant at a very competitive/reasonable price, and at breakfast which was included in our room rate.

Breakfast was of an average, decent spread of excellent quality and enjoyable. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are in the vicinity for any reason. If space is important to you, consider getting another room over what we had, a semi-double room. It was adequate for one night.

I stayed with my friend in the double bed room. The facilities provided in this hotel are good. Their wifi service is good too. The hotel is located strategically near Obihiro station and the famous buta-don shop.

Room Tip: Overall a good place to stay.
