“Amazing from start to finish”

Myself and my wife have recently returned from our honeymoon on Kuramathi, if we could score it 7 out of 5 we would. Kuramathi was our idea of paradise on earth, a beautiful tranquil place that never felt too busy or overcrowded, you were always able to get some space and you didn't have to move far for it.

Relaxation is clearly the main thing here and there are many lovely places to do so, the infinity pool (wonderful yet surprisingly empty = great), the laguna, beautiful sandy beach all round and the "tip" of the island. The top of the island deserves many visits, you truly feel like you are at the end of the world and i don't think i've ever felt so serene whilst lying on the sand there.

There is plenty to get on with though if you are feeling adventurous, Tennis, football, gym, water sports, some excursions and scuba / snorkeling - you absolutely must snorkel at least whilst here, the waters are so clear and you are met with an array of beautiful corals, fish & reef sharks.

The island has a selection of a la carte restaurants that are included in the "select all inclusive" package, i would urge you to upgrade to this package as the restaurants are of a very good standard. Of the restaurants for us personally only Duniye & Palm were slightly disappointing, not because they had bad food, but the food was perhaps slightly too bland for us, however you have to cater for all so this is maybe a fair balance. Siam, Tandoor Mahal, The Reef & Island Barbecue are all absolutely lovely and the Island coffee shop is perfect for lunch - make sure to make the most of all the fresh fish whilst there.

The most stand out thing about Kuramathi (apart from the sheer beauty of the place) is the staff, every single last member of staff did their up most to make our stay as good as possible. The staff in restaurants and bars were chatty and personable, entertaining and knowledgeable about the place they currently call home. It is the staff that help to make Kuramathi great, i only wish everyone realised this and treated all with the respect they deserve.

We miss Kuramathi terribly and hope to go back one day, it is as near to paradise as i think we'll ever get.

Just returned from a 10 day holiday - first visit to the Maldives - and we had probably the most relaxing holiday we have ever experienced. It has taken me quite a few years to convince my husband that he wouldn't be bored on this type of holiday, but he is now totally converted and is already talking about going again. We chose Kuramathi as it's one of the bigger islands, and are pleased that we did. We really enoyed walking around the beautiful gardens, which are so well kept. Service from all of the staff, and Vicky the Kuoni rep, was all very polite, but not over the top.
Some recommendations I would make:
* Try to book the direct BA flight
* Book the seaplane transfer rather than the speedboat. Obviously more expensive, but so much quicker and the views are wonderful. Also means that you don't have to be off really early on your return day as there are more flights than ferries
* Before you book, check out the tide times if you want to do a lot of snorkelling. There isn't a lot of water on top of the reef, so at low tide you can't snorkel.
* If you can afford it, go for the special all inclusive. The buffet restaurant was OK, but the food at all of the A La Carte restaurants was fab, and the choice of wines was better [not brilliant, but definitely better]. When we booked the holiday, it seemed like quite a bit extra to pay for this, but when you are there and see how much things cost, it is very well worth it - if eating and drinking is an important part of your holiday, which it is for us.
Don't bother taking any shoes or many clothes, but do take plenty of sunscreen and lots of insect repellent as there are lots of things that want to bite you. Nothing nasty, but annoying.

It really was a wonderful, chilled out resort and I really have very little negative to say about it al all. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Take a look at the map of the island before you book to decide what sort of accommodation you want...

This Resort is Paradise. We transferred to Kuramathi from Male South Atoll and the handover was perfectly arranged. Upon reaching the Kuramathi Lounge at Male Airport, the holiday begins. The Lounge is conveniently located inside the building with a great view to the landing and starting seaplanes. The transfer to Kuramathi in a seaplane is a great experience already. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed and showed to our villa just a the beach side. The villa was very nice furnished and within 30 seconds we were at the beach. Whereever you go on Kuramathi, you can always see Baby Black Tip Sharks or Baby Stingrays in the water. They have an Eco Conservation Center which educates on the importance of protecting the marine life and the Local Dive Center, the Rasdhoo Diver, is one of the Best we have ever dived with. Aude and Valerio gave us such great dive experiences with Mantas, Guitar Sharks, Murane Eels... and when they saw our sad face when knowing that during our stay there was no night dive, they arranged a night wreck dive just for us and that dive was a really thrilling one. It was great to walk barefoot on the whole island, the restaurant serving international buffets was awesome, the sunsets at the sandbank in the north romantic, the staff was ever friendly smiling. Even though the island is quite big and therefore accommodating many guests, there are plenty of places where you can really enjoy the romantic lonely island feeling. We had an after midnight flight back from Male, but since the seaplane only go until sunset, we had quite some time at Male Airport, but once reaching Male airport, Kuramathi has arranged a free of charge Male Tour for us to spend the time till our departure. To summarise it, we simply loved everything about this resort, but extraordinary was the Dive Center, The Baby Sharks all around the island and the lonely island feeling

Room Tip: We stayed at a Beach Villa with Private Jacuzzi and to sit in the Jacuzzi late at night watching the...

We visited the Kuramathi at the end of August for 10 nights for our Honeymoon. I have to say that although I was overly excited to visit the Maldives as its pretty much somewhere we all dream about going, I was worried about the time of year with the weather -DO NOT LET THIS PUT YOU OFF, firstly its cheaper to go out of season when its 'supposed to be more rainy' and secondly I had spoken to many people who had spent so much more money going in the best seasons so that they could guarantee the sunshine but ended up having rain the whole 2 weeks. This is the indian ocean and just like the carribean you can't predict the weather, we had solid sunshine for the whole time we were there other then one day where it rained for 20minutes then cleared. Actually this is quite nice as it is so humid that it clears the air a little PLUS gives you a chance to have a sneaky cocktail.
We got our package for half price booking through a company called Blue bay travel who were fantastic from start to finish, however this was a Kuoni booking so you still get all the little kuoni travel tags, ticket booklet etc, if you call them they will beat the price you find somewhere else so long as you have the details of who your quote was with!

My partner is slightly fussy when it comes to food so we ended up booking the A'la carte option, again I was skeptical as it was an extra cost but well well worth it and I will say that although the buffet is quite nice for breakfast I wouldn't want to eat their every night as that is what you have to do if you book All Inclusive. Their are 9 restaurants all serving incredible food from around the world, and with this a la carte you can eat in ANY of them, its only when they give you a bill after the meal (as you have to sign off what you eat, not pay again! ) that you realise how much money you are saving.
To eat in the restaurants all you have to do is book at the reception for the evening you want to eat, its best to do it a couple of days before so you can get in to the best ones which i would say Island bbq and the Reef.
If you love steak go to The Reef, its funny because it is actually a fish restaurant with catches of the day BUT strangely The Tenderloin steak is definitely the best on the Island, the fish of course is also out of this world.
If you go to the Island BBQ restaurant they will actually cook the steak in front of you which is fab! They do it with the deserts too if you have flambé bananas.
Curry house and Thai are also unreal! I don't want to blab too much but if you can spare the extra cash defo do a la carte otherwise you won't get to experience all these lovely restaurants unless you want to pay extra once their but again it will cost about £150 a couple.

100 % do the Sea plane transfer, again its dearer then the speed boat but if you get a choppy day id rather be in the air for 20 Minutes and the sea for 5 rather then a couple of hours on the boat. Plus its an incredible experience , you can't beat the views!!!!

Last but definitely not least, as we were on our honeymoon we got an automatic upgrade from a water villa to a jacuzzi water villa, also a free massage each, dining for two on the beach and a dolphin champagne sunset cruise. This truly was the most romantic experience, it was like waking up to paradise every morning being in the middle of the sea with spectacular views. We would always put our hot tub on to warm up before we go for dinner and then by the time were back we'd jump in with a glass of champers under the stars, again you can't beat this setting!

The cocktails are fab in the bars, amazing selection of good spirits!
Its a must to go and watch the stingray feeding, this happens every evening i think around 6 ish, can't remember but is an unreal experience. HUGE stingrays and sharks just no its feeding time and start to gather around the bay at this time, then the guy comes and starts feeding them. Try to go early to get a good seat so you can see properly.

The fact that this is one of the largest islands in the Maldives shouldn't put you off, so many people i know have visited smaller ones but said how bored they got, their is always something to do here, you can relax and be the only one on the beach sometimes or go and join in with some of the local tours. I think we saw 2 children the whole time too so don't let that steer you away, generally most people don't take their kids here and i'd say the majority were honeymooners or anniversary couples.
Hubby did the discovery scuba diving which was half a day course and loved it, got to see loads of fish and go pretty far out.
We used to go in everyday just snorkelling around the coral paths and see lots of fish and blue tip sharks (which don't eat humans by the way nor bite lol) but this however was more intense and a real experience for him.

Staff are all really friendly, If you book this hotel it won't let you down, i could talk so more about it but I wouldn't know when to stop, please feel free to message me with any questions!
If not have a fab Holiday!!!!!

Room Tip: Definitely recommend the Jacuzzi water villa, however if your on your honeymoon and book through blu...

Just returned from a lovely 10 days on kuramathi island. Holiday was great from the start, seaplane transfers were swift, much better than a boat ride. We had a jacuzzi water villa, lovely and spacious, large decking area over the water, with easy access to the sea. These villas face the reef so can be slightly rocky dependant on the tide but there are clear snorkelling channels and marked drop-off points. The variety of sea life is amazing, huge variety of fish, enough to see from the island, without diving.
The gym is more than adequate for a holiday workout, kept clean and supervised.

The food throughout was superb, upgrading to select all inclusive is a no-brainier, you would have easily paid for the cost of the upgrade by eating and paying three times in the a' la carte with a bottle of wine! We only really used the buffet restaurant for breakfast and the odd lunch, other wise we used the restaurants. The waiting staff are more than happy to let you, even encouraging you to have a further bottle of wine and take it with you. The cocktail list is extensive and uses all known brands.

The staff were polite and cheerful , no attitude or rudeness noted by us at all, even passing on the paths, they will always speak.
The whole island is kept spotlessly clean, rooms cleaned twice daily, we did NOT witness any rats in dining areas (as a previous review mentioned)
There is plenty of space on the beaches too, no rush for sun loungers, if you wanted to spend time away from the villas. The beaches have a gentler tide, easier for just swimming rather then snorkelling.

The kuoni rep was always available, but we had no need to contact her at all as everything went well with no issues.

We went to a different Maldives island last year, which we thought was excellent but kuramathi wins us over with the dining options and lovely villas.

Seaplane transfers are a must as only one boat goes early AM back to male so if your flight is afternoon it's a long wait at the airport.

Likely to return!

We stayed for 9 days at the beach villa guests. The welcome and all the services during the stay were excellent. The place is very nice, apart from the sea you can go for walks in the beautiful vegetation of the island. The restaurant offers a different menu every day and always very tasty.

We put in a lot of hours trying to find a Maldivian resort that would be luxurious, whilst affordable and suitable for a honeymoon destination. We are so pleased we ended up picking Kuramathi - From start to finish it was pretty much perfect. The weather was fabulous, the resort is spotlessly clean and modern. Staff are brilliant, food and drink fantastic. The island is large, but not over crowded.

A summary of points to help others planning a similar trip:

- We spent 6 nights in a beach villa with jacuzzi and 6 in a water villa with jacuzzi. If you can afford it, push to a deluxe or superior room for the beach bungalows. The water villas were really something else, but if you got noisy neighbours, I can see how it could ruin the experience a little.
- Go select all inclusive. The differing restaurants there are truly fabulous and one of the main reasons we picked Kuramathi over elsewhere. They really made the holiday for us, as did the staff who are truly lovely and can't do enough for you, without being imposing or overly fussing.
- We were tempted to go to Veligandu. We actually stopped here via sea plane on the way back to pick up some more holiday makers. It didn't look anywhere near as nice as Kuramathi, so we were very pleased with our choice. It was also significantly smaller.
- A note to management, the only negative I can find with Kuramathi is the having to queue in the morning for the restaurants in the Select AI package. There has to be a better method for designation of restaurants. The current method is not really expected for a resort of this standard.
- Choose a sea plane over a speed boat transfer.
- Don't bother taking loads of clothes or much of anything. It's really very laid back. Heels, not needed.

All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this island to anyone.

Thank you for a fantastic holiday :)
