Fantastic second holiday at this resort. This is my experience and recommendation.
First thing is book the select all-inclusive package where you can eat anywhere, this made the holiday, with the excellent choice of restaurants. I cannot choose between the Palm or the Coffee Shop for lunch, superb freshly prepared food and a glass or two of Rose' in the shade to avoid the mid-day sun, perfect.
The evening meal you need to book which is the most stressful part of the holiday and the only time you need to queue for 10am. You need to book at Reception two days ahead. The queue was always short and a time to chat with fellow guests, we always managed to get the restaurant that we wanted.
Favourite restaurants were the Reef, Island Barbeque, The Palm and The Duniye. The Indian and the Thai restaurants were good also and my Wife would disagree with my choices of favourite restaurants.
If you want something special try the six courses offered at the Duniye. My Wife said I didn't need to eat them all, but I disagreed!
The accommodation was good, cleaned and serviced several times a day.
We enjoyed the snorkelling best of all, once out to the edge of the reef a series of lifebuoys led a route through wonderful corals and masses of colourful and various species of fish. We lost count. There were black tipped sharks but were not interested in us in the slightest.
The Island is kept immaculate with every path swept clean everyday. Service is as good as you get wherever you go.
Best recommendation is we will go again - on the select package!

Room Tip: We've stayed in 126 and 129 both as close to the beach as you could get.

We travelled to Kuramathi with our 4 children for nine nights over the Christmas period. They range from 14 to 22 years old and they all said it was the best holiday ever and we have stayed at some lovely hotels over the years. Arriving by seaplane is definitely the way to go as so quick and easy. The villas were clean and a good size and we all enjoyed the outdoor showers. We stayed in deluxe beach villas 322, 323 and 324 which were in great locations. We just stepped out onto the beach. No fighting for sunbeds as there were two nice ones on the verandah and then two more on the beach itself for each villa. We were on the reef side so water very shallow and no good for swimming, but 1 minute walk and you are on the other side of the island where water perfect for swimming. The restaurant food was good but not great, so would definitely recommend upgrading to the select all inclusive so you can eat out at all the other restaurants where food of a much better standard. We tried all but the Duniye (looked a bit too fancy for us!). They were all very good, but we enjoyed the Island BBQ most. We saw no sign of rats as mentioned by someone there at the same as us and I am very observant!. Although it was fairly full it never felt busy. There were times when we were the only people on our beach. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and smiled all the time. The gardens were immaculate and the beach kept very clean. The sea was very rough during most of our stay which was a shame as it made snorkeling much harder. We still managed to see a good variety of fish and the black tipped sharks, although you don't have to snorkel to see them as they are everywhere. The only bad thing I can think to say about our stay is the mosquitoes! We all got bitten. We were told they fog the island early every day but because it was windy during our stay it probably wasn't very effective. So the only advice is to pack lots of mozzie spray as you will need to keep reapplying as they don't just come out at night! Oh, and don't bother packing any heels ladies as you will spend the whole holiday in flip flops or bare feet.

Room Tip: We stayed in deluxe beach villas near the sand bar and thought they were in a perfect location.

We travelled to kuramathi as a family.
Do not visit kuramathi if you expect gd service.
Some staffs are rude and shows their unhappiness/black face when attending to the guests.

Problems :(

1) we reached male airport n was made to wait for 10 minutes for kuramathi staff to pick us up (we look ard, almost all other guests who arrived tog with us has already met up with their resort staffs). Many resorts hav staffs standby n some even have staff standing at the airport exit with resorts signs or guests name).

2) upon arrival, we request to upgrade to select inclusive pkg. Staff strictly told us no as the select inclusive pkg was only available for guests with min. 5 nights stay (we only stay for 4 nights and is eligible for basic all inclusive pkg). No negotiation at all. Everything is strictly by the book. House rule :(

3) we booked 2 beach bungalows and 1 water villa. The reception counter staff told us that we have to dine in 2 different restaurants due to different types of villas even though we travelled as a family. They follow by the book again. House rules :(
*** Note: the food are the same in 3 restaurants except located in different parts of the island. Kuramathi would assign the restaurant nearest to yr villa.

4) room housekeeping: they are rather inflexible n hav 2 fixed shift (morning or evening 7.30pm onwards) no housekeeping in the afternoon.
There was once we missed the morning shift. housekeeping can only be done at 7.30pm shift. House rules again !!!!

5) room housekeeping: they promised to deliver the minibar drinks but didnt do so. ( I was leaving the next day hence I didnt bother to call) :(

6) staffs at the snorkeling equipment rental center (near the eco center) was pretty rude n show us black face. :( :( :( :( :(

7) hi tea: dun expect much. The spread is very simple. A few butter cakes and 2 hot snacks. Service is not fantastic. We hav to walk inside the bar to order our drinks at times instead of being served.

8) departure: we were dropped off at the male airport without any information on our lugguage. To our shockness, we later saw the bus drove away and all our lugguages were left there without anyone attending to it.

Pros:

1) our restaurant staff, reesham was exceptional gd n heart warming. He arrange for my bro n his wife to to dine tog with us (we didn't even requested for it as the reception staff told us that this could not be arranged on our arrival). reesham even arranged to shift our table under the fan the next day.

2) there are sufficient beach chairs ard. We do not see anyone scrambling to snatch beach chairs.

3) bar near the water villa: the staff was friendly and combined tables for us to sit tog as a family. The waiter even introduced drinks for us.

We heard 2 other guests giving feedback/ complaints too :(....

A jewel in the Indian Oczean -Kuramathi is a terrific green island with beautiful vegetation. The sand is a bit raw compared to Angaga at least. And villas over the water are a bit aged already. But it's a great place if you wish a not too little island and like to have an amazing nice place for yoga (SPA over the water) or love to go to super equipped gym (which you might need as the food is very good).

What an amazing place, delivered exactly what it said on the packet and more! Arrived for a 5 day break after sightseeing in Singapore and Sri Lanka only to find we'd been upgraded. Myself and a friend had a beach front villa with a jacuzzi. For one island with so many staff and visitors it was never really busy, anywhere. We walked directly onto the beach in front of our villa one morning and had the beach to ourselves all morning, not another person to be seen. It was an awesome place, really chilled us out at the end of our holiday. The food was great, fabulous variety of restaurants and bars, and an extensive list of cocktails. Beatiful white sand and clear blue sea.
Snorkling equipment was provided gratis for the duration of our stay. We saw reef sharks, feeding stingrays, dolphins, numerous beautiful fish, and hermit crabs galore.
The staff couldn't do enough for you, but never intrusive. The island was kept prestine, dead leaves were maticulously swept up every day and the island was sprayed during the early hours to keep the mozzi level down.
It was paradise, I felt well and truly spoilt and wouldn't think twice about returning.

Myself and my wife have recently returned from our honeymoon on Kuramathi, if we could score it 7 out of 5 we would. Kuramathi was our idea of paradise on earth, a beautiful tranquil place that never felt too busy or overcrowded, you were always able to get some space and you didn't have to move far for it.

Relaxation is clearly the main thing here and there are many lovely places to do so, the infinity pool (wonderful yet surprisingly empty = great), the laguna, beautiful sandy beach all round and the "tip" of the island. The top of the island deserves many visits, you truly feel like you are at the end of the world and i don't think i've ever felt so serene whilst lying on the sand there.

There is plenty to get on with though if you are feeling adventurous, Tennis, football, gym, water sports, some excursions and scuba / snorkeling - you absolutely must snorkel at least whilst here, the waters are so clear and you are met with an array of beautiful corals, fish & reef sharks.

The island has a selection of a la carte restaurants that are included in the "select all inclusive" package, i would urge you to upgrade to this package as the restaurants are of a very good standard. Of the restaurants for us personally only Duniye & Palm were slightly disappointing, not because they had bad food, but the food was perhaps slightly too bland for us, however you have to cater for all so this is maybe a fair balance. Siam, Tandoor Mahal, The Reef & Island Barbecue are all absolutely lovely and the Island coffee shop is perfect for lunch - make sure to make the most of all the fresh fish whilst there.

The most stand out thing about Kuramathi (apart from the sheer beauty of the place) is the staff, every single last member of staff did their up most to make our stay as good as possible. The staff in restaurants and bars were chatty and personable, entertaining and knowledgeable about the place they currently call home. It is the staff that help to make Kuramathi great, i only wish everyone realised this and treated all with the respect they deserve.

We miss Kuramathi terribly and hope to go back one day, it is as near to paradise as i think we'll ever get.
