“Perfect honeymoon destination”
Reviewed 19 March 2014

One of the best holiday destinations I have been to and I am lucky to be quite well travelled. Everything about this place is amazing but the thing that sets it apart is the quite exceptional staff service and friendly nature of everyone on this magical Island. I have just had 10 days with my wife and we had the holiday of a lifetime . From the seaplane transfer to the diving with sharks , deep sea fishing and out standing restaurants ( go for al a carte all inc if you can ) the experiences will stay with me for a long time to come .

Room Tip: I think the west side of the Island may be slightly better but really nothing in it .

Just returned from a 9 night stay at Kuramathi which i booked through Paula Alger at Holidays Please. She cant be beaten on price and customer service. We took the sea plane and i would highly recommend this option as it is an experience in itself and the waiting lounge at Male airport is amazing. You feel special as soon as you arrive here. Took some gorgeous pics flying over the islands and then i could see Kuramathi in the distance. We were dropped off in the middle of the ocean about a 5 minute boat ride from the island. The boat was there to pick us up thankfully. Once we got to the island we were taken to reception and were greeted with a nice cool cocktail and a rep to talk us through the basics. We opted for the select all inclusive package so booked our next 2 nights meals straight away. (you can only book the select AI restaurants 2 days in advance). We were then directed to a buggy bus and taken to our deluxe water villa with jacuzzi. Once we were there our luggage arrived pretty much straight away. We were blown away with the views and it was everything we dreamed of. The villa felt alot bigger than the pics we saw so we were very happy. There was a nice floral arrangement on the bed to wish us a happy anniversary. As soon as we got there, i got the bikini on and jumped straight into the warm water. We were invited to attend an introduction meeting at 5pm that night and although i couldnt be bothered going, im glad i did as it was very informative. I picked up my snorkel gear while i was there. This is free and can be kept in your room for the duration of your stay! We booked into the Thai restaurant on the first night and we were blown away by the quality of the food. This was the start of eating like king and queen for the week. All the select AI restaurants were delicious and i would highly recommend this option. Our favourite was the fine dining restaurant and we tried to book it again for our last night but unfortunately it was fully booked. Tip - if you want to rebook your favourite restaurant get up early and book it. I tried at 9am and was too late so i would advise being there for around 7am. I took my running gear with me and did wonder if it would leave my suitcase and i wouldnt bother but i have to say that getting up and going for a run round the island at 7am was the most enjoyable exercise i have ever done. The only people i met were the workers out cleaning up the island!! The island felt deserted pretty much most of the time and you really do feel like you are one of the few people there. The busiest place was up at the sand bar. It seemed popular but never felt crowded and was a lovely place to chill through the day with a few cocktails. The cocktails menu is vast and i didnt get round to trying them all. The drinks included is vast too and includes the likes of jack daniels and what i would class as premium vodkas. Excellent. We spent a night in the Havana Cigar bar and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There was live music and a great atmosphere. All the staff on the island we friendly and never seemed to be in a hurry to do anything which was nice as it wouldnt feel right being in such a chilled place with stressed staff running around all hectic!! We were very sad to leave the island but the night before our departure we went on the sunset cruise and i would highly recommend this. It ended the holiday on a lovely note. We were given some bubbly while watching the sunset. Brought a tear to my eye! The departure ran very smoothly and again didnt feel rushed or stressed at all. All in all this holiday was as dreamy as we had hoped and we would love to return here one day. The only thing it would gain from is room service as we felt it would have been nice to eat in the room in total privacy one night. You can take wine and beer to your room. The way to do this is at the select AI restaurants, order a bottle (or 2) of wine and have a glass out of it. The waiter will leave the cork and you just pop the cork back into the bottle and take it with you. Ideal!!

Room Tip: If you can afford it opt for the deluxe water villa with jacuzzi. Very private. Also, if you want...

This was our second full holiday on Kuramathi, having last been two years ago. We specifically requested a Deluxe Beach Villa around No. 346, where we stayed before and we're delighted to get 350. At the far end of the island (behind The Reef), the peace and quiet was amazing, bearing in mind the island was full, with around 700 guests and similar staff. In fact many people all asked "where is everyone ?"

The DBV's haven't been changed but still comfortable and spacious and room "boy" very attentive and conscientious. The snorkelling along the reef side of the island pretty much outstanding the whole way and the diving was brilliant, although some very strong currents made most dives more strenuous than last time. My only gripe was the action of a selfish, self centred idiot who at 24 metres decided to shoot ahead of our group for a better pic of an Eagle Ray, frightening it off and knocking out my breather with his fins. This same moron did the same to my dive buddy a few minutes later. Funny how some people from certain parts of the world seem to have no regard or care for anyone or anything, even in a potentially dangerous activity such as diving. This WASN'T the fault of the dive school, who are brilliant and it shows how good the PADI training is that we both recovered safely but you can't plan for idiots !

We were on Select AI which was perfect, we ate at The Reef three times, beach barbecue three times, Siam Garden, Duneyi and The Palm twice. Favourite was the Beach Barbeque - had to go for the steak Diane and crepes suzettes twice - perfect every time but apart from one fish course at The Reef which was heavily salted, all meals were outstanding and a high point of our holiday.

The Staff - too many to mention by name but every single member of staff, including the bus and buggy drivers, were a real credit to the island and their customer service was excellent for the whole of our stay. A big "thank you" to all of the staff who made our holiday so special.t

Niggles - 2 years ago, hardly saw a mozzie let alone got bitten. This time, within 4 minutes of going out onto loungers outside DBV they appeared en masse. I used a powerful repellent but this only had limited effect. Don't know if the island has changed the policy of regular "misting", but never saw any misting going on. My wife loves to read on holiday and the mozzies were so bad,she mainly read in the villa because of the number of mozzies. This obviously spoiled our holiday. In every other aspect, Kuramathi was perfect, absolutely perfect but this was a major downer and you could tell by looking around the bars and restaurants that the mozzies were being fed nearly as well as the guests !

Also think that the mattresses in the DBV's could do with renewing. They were quite soft and as the heavy one, I had to make sure not to tip my wife downhill when turning in my sleep !

In summary, Kuramathi is a beautiful, calm, peaceful escape from the problems of the world and a fantastic holiday location, with great staff. If they could help with the mozzies, it would be perfect !

We had the trip of a lifetime with a 9 night stay in Kuramathi. We booked a beach villa with jacuzzi, and it was worth it! Personally I think water villas can be noisy with the waves and a bit scary. We stayed on a basic all inclusive package, and there was enough variety of food, although I must say the quality of the food wasn't great. Also we were surprised at the number of pork dishes offered in a Muslim country - it was all labelled though which was good. We had the same table allocated to us for every meal, and we had a lovely beach view - beautiful!

Staff were friendly and courteous, and we loved the shuttle service offered around the island. Kuramathi is one of the larger Maldivian islands, and it would be difficult to walk around from one end to the other in the heat.

Entertainment was provided every night, and we spent 2 nights watching a movie on the beach, other nights involved live music.

Snorkelling equipment including flippers were included on our package with a life jacket!

We chose to take a seaplane both ways, and I would recommend this to all! Kuramathi is a fair distance from Male, and the experience of a seaplane is unforgettable.

We had an amazing time at Kuramathi, and have left with wonderful memories. If there was one thing to improve, I would say the food offered in the buffet restaurant could be better.

Everything about this holiday was wonderful. From the moment we arrived at the airport it was hassle free and well organised. All the staff are helpful and courteous and nothing was too much trouble. We were on the basic all inclusive package and the food was so good we didn't feel the need to eat anywhere else. We were allocated a table and waiter for the whole week, which was great as they get to know you, what drinks you like etc and our waiter was excellent. Drinks are good quality brands and i recommend the cocktails, my own favourite being a Sandy Beach. We visited the medical centre for a minor matter and were very impressed with the staff and facilities. Everything we needed was provided in our villa:gown and slippers, beach towels, beach bag, toiletries, even an electric adaptor plug. I did use my trusty travel kettle as the coffee machine wasn't suitable for making tea. We also had a fridge filled with water and soft drinks, and our waiter gave us milk for tea. There is no need to carry any form of money during your stay as any extras are charged to your room and settled on check out with debit/credit card or dollars. You will need a few dollars to tip your room assistant and waiter when you leave, $10 is usual though we gave more as the service was excellent. We were very sad to leave our island paradise and would love to return.

Room Tip: We had a water villa and were thrilled with it. Steps took us directly into the sea, at low tide kne...

Just returned from our first visit. Wow - amazing. Seaplane is an absolute must - even if you do just one way. Stayed in beach villa which was fantastic & perfect for our needs. A la carte another must - tried all restaurants & they were all amazing(my favourite word for Kuramathi)! Our favourite was the Island bbq. Cocktails to die for in all the bars - be warned - the Long Island iced tea has a bit of a kick!Whole resort is spotlessly clean & well maintained. Didn't come across one member of staff who didn't say hello with a lovely happy smile. Ladies leave your fancy shoes at home - spent the whole time there in bare feet - even in the evening when you've got a nice frock on. Island was 95% full but didn't feel like it - no fight for sunbeds or your own little spot here. Already booked to go back next year & dragging our friends along - kicking & screaming not - can't wait. Don't hesitate to book, just do it, you won't be disappointed.

We visited this island for the third time and it was as fantastic as the previous times. We have been to other resorts in the Maldives, but Kuramathi remains the best of all of them. It is true, there are better water villas elswhere (Lily Beach) or better house reefs (Lily Beach, Ihuru), but the nice and very private water villas together with the mix of 6 great restaurants and 4 different cafés/bars with different ambiances make of this Island a very special one. The nature is also amazing, you're surrounded everywhere by wild vegetation. In one word: Paradise!
