We always wanted to visit the Maldives, especially after visiting Mauritius. We picked Kuramathi primarily because it was a larger island and we didn't like the thought of being able to walk around an island in 10 minutes! We were far from disappointed there was a 25 minute walk end to end awaiting us and a 10 mins by golf buggy journey. You cannot actually walk all the way around the island anyway, because of rock outcrops at the tail end and other features, such as water villas and tides. Anyway, we had a Deluxe Beach Villa at the tail and were not disappointed, we had our own area and private beach zone, it was fabulous! Quiet the paradise you would expect from a 9K holiday! The out bound Seaplane is something to be aware of though, in the sense that you will be placed in a very nice white lounge area on arrival, awaiting other international arrivals. Personal it is NOT! But truthfully, on the way back, it was a bonus, it was on time and made good time against the boat option. But, be aware, you could be a lot later arriving on the island than somebody getting the boat, although the journey is genuinely hours shorter!! However, from the Seaplane you do have the most AMAZING views of the Atols and this is seriously priceless! So, back to Kuramathi, it is genuinely a beautiful island and the service there was excellent, it genuinely was very good. The restaurant on the tail end of the island is personal and the service is very attentive! I have to mention our little Anise who was so caring! The climate in April is hot and humid averaging 32C, we did have a 10 minute rain shower on the last day, but this is definitely the best month to go. All in all, just be aware of one reality fact, NOT all holiday prices are equal, 10k in the Maldives is NOT what 10k in Spain will get you!! It is paradise and they know it and can call it!! We would definitely go back, if the World wasn't so big! Shukareea Kuramathi!

Room Tip: Tail end rooms near the Reef Restaurant (400-450) every time! Middle of the Island is the oldest an...

Though our trip was curtailed due to an emergency back home, the short stay at Kuramathi was really nice. We had a beach villa, and only managed to use the 2 of the pools on the property. Do not miss going to the sand bank at one end of the island. We also did the sunset cruise which was nice, especially the sighting of dolphins along our boat. I would certainly like to go back and stay longer. Thank you for a great experience.

Just came back from Kuramathi Island Resort. This was our 4th visit of the Maldives but first in this property. The resort is big and runs like a Swiss watch. Everything goes by a program and there is a lot of personnel on the premises. You can tell that the employees have been trained to say "hello" every time they see a guest (even if it is a bit absent minded...). The Buffet was ok, nothing special but we came to expect that from the resorts' Buffets. One thing that I really did not like was that you had to pay for water during Breakfast time! I mean they offered you coffee, juice even smoothies so what was the big deal of also offering water? I had to take my medication and vitamins in the morning and really needed water for that! As they did not allow us to take the complimentary water from the room in the dining area I was forced to buy the water. I found this a bit too "cheap" from the hotel's management, especially when you pay what you pay!

We stayed in a Water Jacuzzi Villa which was spacious with direct access to the Reef (that was the main reason we opted for this type of accommodation) and even though we thought we would not use much the Jacuzzi, we ended up doing so after every snorkel we made. The amenities were good and it was great having a Nesspresso machine with daily refills. Also appreciated the free Wi Fi.
Personally I did not like the fact that there was actual "traffic" on the island! That was something I thought I would never see on an island resort in the Maldives! I understand that the size of the island is such that they need to transfer goods, furniture and other stuff but still... When we stayed at the Sun Island about 10 years ago we did not see vehicles, except from the luggage buggies. That resort is also very big (not sure if it is even bigger than Kuramathi) and they had bicycles for rental for the guests which was great! Instead on Kuramathi, only the employees had bicycles and then you had to "step aside" for motorcycles, buggies of various types, cars, Minivans and even a tractor pulling a cargo case! Apart from all the dust they raised every time they passed, we found on the paths pieces of metal wires and screws! And we were walking without shoes! That is not my ideal Maldivian experience...
The other major disappointment for me was the Reef. There were no colours similar to what we had seen in other places... We were told that this was because this was a "Hard Coral Reef" and a "Soft Coral Reef". Apart from some pale blues and greens, it is pretty much a grayish tone. Eve the sea did not have that milky blue tone that you usually see around the islands. However I have to say that the fish we saw were as colourful as always in the Maldives and did see a lot more Black Tip Sharks than anywhere else. That was a big satisfaction!
Despite above comments, which are made only so other travelers know what to expect, we did enjoy our stay and had a good time. However if you are into snorkeling you may want to opt for a property with "Soft Coral Reefs" if you wish to see spectacular colours in all their glory!

My boyfriend and I visited kuramathi 3 years ago and loved it! We were only disappointed that we didn't have dive qualifications as we heard the hammerhead dives there are amazing. So ewe saved our pennies and went back - and it was just as perfect as we remembered! We had the beach villa again which. Was just as good 3 years later, the food, beaches and sealife were incredible
The hammerhead shark dive was a little disappointing as we were expecting schooling sharks and only saw one however other dives were incredible and often we were lucky to have just us and a dive leader. So many spotted eagle rays and curious reef and gray sharks made this a great place to dive.
What really made our stay as the staff. They were all as helpful, polite, funny and outstanding as before. Some even remembered us by name from the last time we were there!! The staff are really what makes this place outstanding and we have nothing but respect and praise for everything they do for their guests.
We got engaged at kuramathi and I couldn't think of a more perfect place for that to happen. We cannot wait to come back for our wedding anniversaries in years to come.

Room Tip: Beach Villas are great but not all are actually on the beach. But the whole island is a beach really...

We stayed at the resort in April 2014.
On average it was very good. The food in the restaurants was really good but the food in the buffets was quite poor, being generally lukewarm.
It was a bit of a pain having to get up at 5am three days in advance to reserve the restaurant we wanted.
Upon arriving in the Maldives at Male airport we had to wait 1.5/2 hours in line to get through passport control which wasn't ideal after a long journey.

Apart from those minor things, the resort was very good and I would recommend it to anyone.

Kuramathi is a wonderful place and I cant speak high enough of how amazing this resort is. I picked Kuramthi for my honeymoon and stayed there for a week from 7th - 13th Jan. Everything about this experience was awesome starting from the resort in itself to staff, spa, aqua sports and food. The staff were always smiling and ready to help. The food was out of this world and we enjoyed every single meal in the banquet. We stayed in Deluxe Beach Villa with Jacuzzi and its a must recommend for all. The room were serviced twice a day and there are heaps of activity to choose from. Its a must recommend for all and I am sure the romantic couples will enjoy as much as a family with kids.

Room Tip: Please note that one side of the island is way more happening than the other side so if possible, pl...

Unusual for a Maldivian holiday the food was not the highlight this time around and even pretty average at times. The buffet was quite poor by Maldives standards, would definitely recommend the all inclusive restaurants over that. One problem the chefs seem to have is over-cooking the fish - whether it be a tuna fillet or a whole sea bass it seemed to come over-cooked and hence lose all it's flavour...really disappointing. The two restaurants which were better for this were the Thai and the Palm (great for lunch).

The bathrooms here are not good, whether the public ones in the bars/restaurants or in the rooms. They look as though the resort haven't spent any money on them in the last ~10yrs. Also...two cockroaches in the room....appreciate there's a lot of bugs on these islands but surely this is something they should have sorted out.

Despite that... Kuramathi is surely the destination for snorkelling and diving fanatics because the house reef is seriously good. You can not only spot loads of ~5ft sharks in the reef but actually swim ~ a metre away from them. For the swimming with sharks experience go out on the reef side around the mid of the water villas, there was a pack of 5-6 pretty big black tip sharks which seem to circle around that area. Also look out for the big schools of parrot fish, in a school they will let you swim alongside them for some great underwater photos.

Bear in mind as well this is a very family orientated resort, loads of kids.

In conclusion - it's not bad, but not great either. Though swimming with sharks could rank in the top 10 greatest experiences of a lifetime (if you're into that kind of thing...).

Room Tip: 215-225 or up in the narrow end of the island
