My Wife and I spent our 25th anniversary on Kuramathi and had a truly wonderful experience! The food in the restaurants was absolutely delicious. All the restaurants have incredible menus, our favourites being the "Reef" and the "Grill" (the staek diane, cooked at your table, is to die for!!)

We had a deluxe beach villa in the middle of the island - which meant a short 20 min stroll to either the top or bottom end of the island.

A fantastic place and a dream holiday - we could not fault the place. Fareed, our personal waiter was the most friendly and attentive we've ever come across, but then the service from the staff was second to none.

You cannot fail to enjoy a stay here - it is simply amazing!

Room Tip: choose the select all inclusive which allows you to eat in any of the restaurants, not just your own...

My husband and I spent 14 wonderful days on Kuramathi at the end of June 2014; having read the reviews on here we had very high expectations but we were not dissapointed.

Kuramathi is not a 5 star resort like many of the other Maldivian Islands, but for what you pay it is certainly good value. We stayed in in a Water Villa with Jacuzzi which was just perfect and ideally located for the most amazing snorkelling - we saw Black tip, white tip, grey reef and leaopard sharks we also saw turtles, eagle rays and every kind of fish imagineable. Definitely a good island for those wanting to snorkel.

During our trip we also dived for the first time and completed our Open Water and Advanced Diver qualifications. The dives were all excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and very professional, we felt completely safe in their hands. We had some truly amazing dives including a night dive on the lagoon wreck. We also did the Hammerhead shark dive but unfortunately the visibility was poor and we didn't see any. On other dives we saw Napoleon fish, nurse sharks, octopus, lion fish, grey reef sharks and countless eagle rays- experiences we will never forget.

We went select AI and the reviews on here are all true - the food is wonderful. The best restaurants are the reef and the Island bbq. We never had trouble booking the time slot we wanted.

Weather wise we had 13 days of beautiful sunshine and 1 day of rain. I would definitely recommend staying at least 10 nights as in the rainy season the weather can be varied and the day it did rain we were limited on what we could do (visibility was poor for diving and the sea too rough to snorkel - the wind was also a littel chilly!).

The island is beautifully kept and the accommodation is lovely throughout the island. As mentioned it is not 5 star, don't expect the utter luxury that other resorts will provide you with however what you also don't have is their price tag. The island is big enough to spend 14 days on- we could have stayed longer. The memories we have from this holiday will last a lifetime, we already know we want to go back to the Maldives and are already struggling to find an island that combines the qualities that Kuramathi does so well - beach, snorkelling, good food, peace and quiet and a little bit of paradise.

We spent a long time researching islands and Kuramathi was exactly what we were looking for; it's looking increasingly likely we will be back next year!

Room Tip: We stayed in a water villa with jacuzzi. We used the jacuzzi a lot and it's a nice was to sit an...

Stayed in Kuramathi for 10 nights in July as part of our silver wedding. Had been checking out trip advisor before we left and totally agree with all the positive comments. We took a seaplane both ways which was an amazing experience. We had a deluxe beach villa with jacuzzi. Was a little disappointed that we didn't have a clear sea view but the room and garden areas were lovely and it was right in the middle of the Island which was ideal for getting about but was kind of wishing we'd went for the water villa with jacuzzi. Go select AI if you can because the food in the restaurants is amazing and well worth the upgrade. Hard to pick a favourite. Book for the first 3 nights as soon as you arrive then you can book every morning as you go in for breakfast for 3 nights in advance. We never had a problem getting the restaurant or time we wanted and found 8 to be the best time to eat. We loved the Indian but you do need to ask them to make the curries a bit spicier and it was lovely. Steak Diane in Island BBQ amazing!! Fish and Reef also very good. What they don't tell you is that the Indian and Thai do a buffet so check which nights they are on, the Thai one was meant to be amazing. You get free snorkel hire for your stay and it was really good snorkeling, we stuck mainly to the intermediate channel which was fine for us. The sandbank was beautiful, especially at sunrise. We were lucky enough to see the stingray feed but this is stopping in August. We also did the sunset cruise which was a lovely way to end our holiday. The staff we lovely too, we got on really well with the bar staff and had a few laughs.

4 years ago we went on honeymoon to this beautiful resort and still I dream do going back!
I would go through all the admin and drama if getting married all over again if it meant it all ended up with my hubby and I back in our beautiful villa on stilts over the water, sipping exotic cocktails and dining on the delicious food...
One day we will return to this wonderful place, only this time we won't just snorkel, we will scuba dive as well... The Maldives really is a place of dreams and magic!

My wife and I stayed here for a week, 11-18th July and stayed on a water villa with Jacuzzi. Great accommodation and over all the standards on the island were very good.
You really have to see the beauty with your own eyes to believe it, pictures do not do justice.
The sandbank is breathtaking and the beaches and snorkelling channels are beautiful with abundant wildlife from pipe fish, to angel fish to black tip reef sharks.
We found that overall the quality of the food for such an expensive and unique island was a little of a let down.....here's my reasons.
The Island BBQ has rave reviews on the steak Diane and rightly so, it is very good, however that's were it ends, the rest of the menu and quality are poor.
The Reef restaurant is ok but I had frozen fillets of fish that were microwaved!!, Poor.
The Siam was good, fresh and nice taste, the Indian restaurant was absolutely awful, we are used to traditional tasty curries in the UK and these were awful, no taste, or variation and limited menu, don't bother.
By far the best lace to eat was the Duniye restaurant ant the Wagyu beef was exceptional and all dishes presented beautifully. The coffee shop was pretty good and the palm was ok for lunch.
After coming from Sri Lanka for a week and receiving such genuine and sincere service from truly wonderful people, the Muslim population on the island do not hit the same standards. The only relief came from all the bar staff who are from Sri Lanka. The rep from Kuoni was poor and seemed on auto pilot, not really helpful or interested, which surprised me as the Kuoni staff whom I booked the holiday with were exceptional.

We had a sunset cruise which was fine and experienced seeing Dolphins, but this doesn't always happen, so be lucky. The worst thing on the island was the bites from Mosquitos, bugs, whatever were on the island, you can't see or here them. I was covered but my wife had over a hundred bites and no amount of mosquito spray or cream helps, that's a fact and common agreement! So be warned, it gets really uncomfortable and difficult. I never saw any people spray the island as they state. The vistas are breathtaking and the sea is a turquoise blue and warm.

I would love to return to the Maldives one day, but research the other islands and choose better for perfection, after all it's not cheap. Do the selected all inclusive, it's worth it.

It took us nearly 24 hours of continuous travel to get home, boat, 2 planes and then drive and I am still suffering with jet lag, really awful.

I hope this helps, just being honest and don't want to sugar coat anything for you.
Try and enjoy if y can but be warned of certain negatives which I have stated.

Let me start off by saying that it's all true!

As so many reviewers have already said, Kuramathi is a wonderful resort. In fact calling it a resort is a bit of an insult, this island offers more than just lounging on the beach and organised activities. The size of Kuramathi (nearly 2km) allows for an alternative to the beach without leaving land (something the majority of Maldivian Islands can't give), so much so that when we investigated the interior it really did feel as if you were in the middle of a rainforest and not on a popular large resort. Towering palms, banana trees laden with ripening fruit, bats hanging high above your head, screw pines laden with fruit made into ice cream on the island, geckos and lizards scuttling through the undergrowth and the air filled with an orchestra of wildlife noises - magical.

Now for a few things others haven't mentioned that are criticisms but didn't affect our experience significantly enough to lower the rating!

1. The A La Carte restaurants are scattered around the island so it does mean that if you pick one that isn't close you'll have to walk. There are buggies that run the length of the main 'road' and thatched stops at which to wait for one but there's no set timetable and as we discovered it's often quicker to start walking and flag a ride to reach the restaurant in time for the booking. But beware of staff member on bicycles without lights, the road is dimly lit...

2. Set booking times are a bit of a pain, you're limited on select A La Carte (definitely a must) to booking a restaurant up to three days ahead and at either 7,8 or 9 o'clock. We nearly always got the restaurant of our choice at the time we wanted but with a set time you end up having to tailor the day's activities. Eating an early lunch for instance if an early evening meal was booked and always factoring in enough time to shower etc and possibly walk some distance to the restaurant. This all made for a day that was too structured and less relaxed than we would have liked.

3. The Reef was our favourite restaurant, right at the top of the island and about a 15 minute sweaty walk from our Beach villa. It's really lovely here, freshly built looking, friendly staff, intimate, great setting on the beach and free entertainment provided by groups of scuttling crabs on the sand!
Unlike many other reviewers, we didn't find all staff friendly, some quite frankly were on the sullen side particularly in our allocated buffet restaurant, The Haruge, where we had breakfast daily. We weren't impressed with this meal, a lot of choice but on the fatty, sugary side. Fine if you like a cooked breakfast, sugary buns or cereals containing chocolate but if it's fruit you're after the selection is meagre and cornflakes the only 'plain' cereal on offer. I do recommend the scotch pancakes though, really good! This is the largest buffet restaurant of the three and we found it impersonal and busy.

4. If you're after an island surrounded by a glass clear lagoon with nothing but aquamarine water as far as the eye can see this is not the island for you.
When looking out to sea the view is peppered with boats of various kinds, it didn't bother me but I can see that, for some, this might mar the classic image of being 'away from it all' on a remote exotic island. You might also be bothered by the telecommunications masts clearly visible on a nearby island. Yes, one side of Kuramathi is 'lagoon' but, with a breeze often present, waves are formed and the seabed disturbed making for cloudy snorkelling and choppy water. Frustrating when this is the beach closest to your accommodation, in our case beach villa no.64. A bit of exploring led us to what we considered to be the most attractive swimming and snorkelling area at the head of the island not far from reception and close to one of the jettys. Here, even on a relatively windy day, the sea is a lot calmer and the sand softer. There's easier snorkelling to be had if, like us, you are a relative beginner afraid of investigating too far out in helpfully marked snorkelling channels. Close to the shore we were still able to see a lot of stunningly coloured fish and sharks.

5. As some reviewers have already said Beach Villas are deceptively named as it doesn't actually mean you will be on the beach. It's worth emailing in advance, as I did, to request a villa as close to the beach as possible. This accommodation is the oldest on the island and although spacious and kept beautifully clean the villas are a bit frayed around the edges in places. Ok, you could argue that you're not going to spend much time inside, but if I were to return I would definitely choose to upgrade.
The poor lighting, especially in the bathroom, was an annoyance for us. I'm all for low energy bulbs but they can omit a very dull brown light. Trying to see what you are doing when putting on makeup to glam up a bit in the evening proved interesting!
We did have iPhones and an ipad with us plus electric toothbrushes and needed to recharge quite frequently, there were only two sockets in the bedroom though helpfully of the British variety.

6. And finally......watch out for coconut bombs!! We had very stormy weather one day and it was rather hairy weaving our way around coconut laden palms as the fruit crashed around us. Trees near eating spots are stripped of their deadly cargo but not elsewhere.

Ok, that's it, a long review but a lot to say. I would definitely recommend Kuramathi for its flora and fauna, for its A la Carte food, for the slick and professional way in which it's run and for the variety this island offers. Perfect, well almost.
