Island is exotic. Restaurant, food hospitality and staff in the restaurants are fantastic.

Front desk, housekeeping, communication and accomodation mainly the water villas, all four mentioned are poor and disappoint specially to how highly Kuoni rates this resort.

Kuoni - Rep at the resort was a total waate of resource. They can do without a rep saving them bucks to add to their revenue and profit.
Saving grace for Kuoni was the Knightsbridge store manager at the time.

I was on Kuramathi Island January 2014 and it was amazing time. We had watervilla with jacuzzi - although jacuzzi is not necessary at all - it was nice to have so much privacy. What's more - watervilla with jacuzzi is just next to the snorkeling channel. You just have to wait for high tide an have great fun! But there are a lot of stones and corals of course. Watervillas without jacuzzi are connected with one another so you don't have so much privacy, less sun but better water and sand under water to just swim and relax - beautiful white sand and turquoise water. Food is amazing. Rooms are very luxurious. Staff very nice and helpful. You can observe fruit bats all ober the island, black tip sharks and colourful fishes in the water, lizards on trees... I wish I could go back to this beautiful island and spend there more time - we weren't bored not even for a minute.

Room Tip: Watervillas are great but quite expensive. Next time I could choose beach villa and probably still b...

We stayed in the deluxe beach jacuzzi villa which was spotlessly clean and cleaned twice a day. I wouldn't worry about which one you are allocated if you are staying in this accommodation as they are all very similar and only a 4 metre walk to hit the ocean with lots of loungers placed spaciously down the beach so you can easily find your own little private spot. We were 225.

Food was unbelievable, perfect, the most choice and best quality we have ever had abroad for both myself a vegetarian and my new husband who is a massive meat and fish fan. We were on the select all inclusive and we could get in all the restaurants no problem apart from the international, we tried a few times around 9.30am the 3 days in advance and at all the possible times it was always full. But that wasn't a problem as we loved the other 5 so much. Our fave was the Indian and Palm which had great meat and pasta/pizza dishes. We always took a bottle of wine back to our room after diner and asked the staff and it was completely fine.

We went on 28th July for 9 nights and weather was really sunny. It only rained for a short time on a few days and never too long to disrupt sun bathing and it was mostly over night. Warning to people with naturally curly/frizzy hair it is very humid. You need to take some serious frizz control stuff and even then after a GHD session as soon as I left the air con it was like stepping out the shower but It's worth it for the completely breathe taking environment. Do spray mosquito stuff day and night. We have been to Dominican and Mexico and never been bitten so much. Can not wait to return to the Maldives! Very sad to not be there still :( It was honeymoon paradise!

We went as a couple with 3 other couples to celebrate a special birthday. The staff are used to dealing with honeymoon couples so they had to go out of their way to accommodate our party of 8. They did this wonderfully and we had the holiday of our lives. The island itself is a beautiful paradise and you can see this yourself from the myriad of photos available - but the setting is nothing without the experience. From the minute we landed at Male airport; to the boat; to reception; to our room; to the bar! there was a sense that everything was well planned, well organised and professional. I could not fault the 'management' of the island and this leaves you having NOTHING to worry about and a feeling of calm serenity...which endures for your whole stay. Most staff are very attentive and are keen to earn their tips, many are from Sri Lanka and so bring their calm, peaceful and friendly nature with them. It is incredible that there are 600 guests and 750 staff because it only ever feels like there are 50 people on the island - this is not by chance and is credit to the way the whole island is managed. We chose to upgrade to the 'Select' All Inclusive instead of upgrading to the Water Villas. This turned out to be a perfect decision. I cannot recommend enough upgrading to the Select All Inclusive. The standard All Inclusive on the Island was good quality and was comparable to others we have experienced in the Caribbean; Cruise etc but the Select was amazing value for money. Our party of 8 love our food and wine and we spent hours every lunch and dinner drinking unlimited wine (the sort you pick up at Waitrose for £10-£15) and food so good, you could imagine being in an Oliver or Ramsey restaurant. There are 6 wonderful restaurants all included in the Select and each had its own theme. I was very impressed with Anura Rathnayake, the head chef for the restaurants at the busy end of the island - he made the time to come and speak with us and share recipes for some of his wonderful dishes, and his passion for high end food was inspiring. The precise management of the island extended to their IT which meant every time we sat down at a new restaurant, our friend who needs gluten free food was catered for without even asking - if you have a food allergy, you'll know how important this is. In between meals, we drank unlimited cocktails and some how managed to squeeze in the snorkelling!! We will definitely be returning one day.

My husband and I have just returned from a 9 day holiday at Kuramathi. I'm not sure what I can write that hasn't been said before, but I will give our take on it and hopefully it will give you an idea on what to expect. The Maldives has been a lifelong dream for me and we took a lot of time and effort reading all the reviews and forum posts before making the choice on Kuramathi. Now I know most of the reviews are wonderful, but there are some bad ones also, so wether it was because this was the first time in The Maldives for us so we had nothing to compare it to, I don't know, but we had a blast, it was everything and more, just wonderful.
The food is fabulous, even in the buffet restaurant, we ate at all the different options apart from the Thai, The Reef being our favourite. All the staff where wonderful, shy and quiet but they did a marvellous job without being all over you like a rash. Putu, Hassan, Shareef and Himly to name a few, they made our holiday special.
We had a deluxe beach villa right at the top of the island near the spit, fantastic place to be, really close to The Reef and also the Bar and to walk out of your door onto what seems like your own private beach with reef sharks swimming by was amazing.
I had never done snorkelling before, but plucked up the courage to do it, we got all the equipment we needed from the hotel, including a life vest for me which was great as I didn't get tired at all, you could just potter about for ages watching the beautiful array of marine life, it was like looking in on another world, the colours and sheer amount of fish was amazing, we saw everything but a turtle, so we have to go back so I can see one!!!!
We flew from Australia which was a bit of an ordeal as the flights are late so you have to stay in Male overnight and also long layover in KL, but it was worth it.
It is a large island, so if you want that Robinson Crusoe feel maybe it is not for you, saying that the top end of the island where we where was very quiet and typical tropical paradise, the bottom of the island is more resort like, but this does give you the option to have all the extras that they provide, like the many restaurant's, tennis courts, Eco centre etc, you would not get this on a smaller island.
We found the Kuoni rep Vicky to be great, very informative, but gave us privacy.
The select AI is a must as people have said before, we have done a lot of AI in the Caribbean and Asia and the food quality here was better then all of them. People have said about the strict rules on taking drinks to room etc, but it never bothered us, we had a bar right by us and where able to pop in for the odd cocktail or three. I think the rules do help to keep the smooth running of the resort, even if they can seem annoying to some.
We will definitely return, I miss it already so much. We feel very blessed to have been able to experience such a wonderful part of the world. Til next time !!!!!!

We honeymooned here for a week in Nov 2013. Whilst we have some great memories from our stay on this beautiful island, we also have some pretty unpleasant ones as a result of Kuoni's poor customer service which could have been avoided as the island rep exerted some kind of authority and dealt with our situation.

Our honeymoon was booked at a Kuoni store where we chose to upgrade to a water bungalow (without jacuzzi). The accommodation wasn't anywhere near close to the pictures we were shown. It later transpires that we were shown incorrect photographs however Kuoni won't accept this. Our water bungalow was dated (we later learned it was the first to be built when the island first started operating), it lacked privacy (was right next to the Laguna Bar), had a tiny balcony which was covered so you couldn't sunbath there in private, was situated on the opposite side of the island to where we should have been and was the stark opposite of what we were shown, which we later found out was a completely different bungalow!

The island rep, Nicole, had no authority and therefore the issue wasn't resolved until we got home. We will never book nor recommend Kuoni again.

A tip to future travellers - don't waste your money on the upgrade to be deeply disappointed. Either go for the bungalow with jacuzzi or opt for the beach villas. Stay away from the bungalow without jacuzzi.

Regarding the island, it was beautiful. Lots of restaurants and we had no problem getting in them like some of the reviews suggest. It's slightly odd that you can't have drinks in your accommodation but you can take half opened bottles back with you from the restaurant! The Dunieye food was tip top and we had plenty of great meals at the Palm too. The island BBQ was a real hit in a lovely setting. the candlelight dinner was a little embarassing! We were sat right in the walk way between the accommodation and the bar - not romantic at all!

The local people there were wonderful, helpful, friendly and attentive and they all worked so incredible hard.

We would recommend the sea plane transfers. A little scary but great views of these magical islands.

The spa was okay. It lacked relaxation space that you expect from a resort the size and standard of Kuramathi but the treatments themselves were good.

Would we go back? Probably not. Sadly we had a much better trip on the way back when we stopped off at Abu Dhabi. We got real five star service at Jumeirah Etihad Towers, a honeymoon upgrade and the celebratory treats just kept coming. They even congratulated us on our wedding when we checked in. We didn't even get a wedding/honeymoon reference during the entire stay at Kuramathi!

Room Tip: Avoid water bungalow without jacuzzi. If you like snorkelling ensure you are coral side of the isla...

Had a holiday of a lifetime at Kuramathi. We stayed in a beach villa which was perfect, quite basic but for the amount of time we spent in our room it was perfect! The outdoor shower was great. Food on the Island was outstanding we upgraded to the select all package which I would highly recommend. All restaurants were of 5 star quality. Our favourite was the Island BBQ where you need to try the steak Dianne closely followed by the Thai, SIam garden, my partner thought this was the best Thai green curry he had ever had. Need to mention that the staff on the whole Island are fantastic couldn't do enough for you and always go out of there way to accommodate you. Snorkeling is also excellent with an abundance of fish. As soon as we came home we were already talking about next years trip. We went for 7 nights after spending 3 nights in Dubai, next time I would skip the stop over in Dubai (this was my second visit there) and just do 2 weeks in the Maldives. Kuramathi is an absolute paradise!

Room Tip: Upgrading to Select all is a must!
