Reading reviews on trip adviser I'm constantly amazed at how picky people are! This is a hostel for gods sake! The manager Lal is a super guy and very obliging. The staff were great and the location is spot on! A great place to stay.

We came here after we decided not to stay at the place that we originally booked. We were happy to find a room and we liked it. It is a bit cold, especially in the bathroom and we had to leave the water running for some minutes before it got warm. The room was big enough with a warm blanket. The whole place is beautifully built from wood and is surrounded by trees and fern trees. It does have a fireplace but still gets pretty chilly in the morning and evening. Food is good!

Called a few hours in advance to book a room here. The price was the best we found in the city at 3000 Rs. Lal, the manager gave us a room in the front overlooking the foresty area. They even picked us up from the bus station free of charge. He was pretty hospitable and even offered us a van to see the World's End for the following day. We didnt eat there but did have drinks a couple of times, so i cant really comment on the food. Super knowledgable guy and lighthearted. Would def stay here agian.

Room Tip: If you have a few people with you I would opt for some of the rooms in the back of the place. Its a...

We were in King Fern in May for our honeymoon. The place is extremely beautiful with ambience that connects one to nature. The staff were very friendly, though the owner was not around when we reached. One of the owners even came to the airport to ensure that we take the right taxi, before leaving on some work. When we were travelling from Colombo International airport to King Fern, the taxi driver told us that the owner is a musician himself and that they have musical evenings on some days.
Incidentally, my birthday fell on one of the days of our stay. My husband planned a surprise dinner for me, and the arrangements that the staff made were so wonderful. We weren't even charged for the cake!!The food is excellent. The location is not very far from the main square, but just enough to keep us away from the noise, and the rooms and the sitting area connects us to nature. Sri Lanka is a very beautiful country, and the people very friendly. And King Fern's kept up that image of Sri Lanka for us!

we paid a lot to stay here for 3 nights because it was over Christmas (Rs 6000 for double room). They did us a lovely Christmas dinner (with carol singers) on Christmas Eve and the rooms were generally clean and comfy. The downside is that the house is freezing (I've no idea how cold it needs to get before they actually light the fire) and the breakfast was a daily disappointment.

Not worth what we paid, but it has great views and the staff are really friendly and helpful.

King Fern Cottage is a very lovely and quaint place tucked amongst the lush greenery. Loved the whole concept. We had a room on the upper level and it almost felt like we were living in a treehouse.

Our toilet was slightly dim. It would've been great if there was more light in the toilet.

Only gripe I had was in the morning when we woke up and were waiting around for breakfast, no one was around even at 7.30am. We were eager to have an earlier breakfast as we were catching a train to Ella. But soon after (almost nearing 8am), the staff appeared and were preparing our breakfasts .

All in all, it's an enjoyable stay with very reliable wifi in both rooms and common area.

Spent 2 nights there out of a 3 week trip in Sri Lanka.
It had everything to make it a great accomodation. Clean room, nice common areas to share a beer with other backpackers, friendly service, internet, good price, well located slightly out of the noisy village.
Great place in general.
