“Go there only if you are interested in Ramayana sites!!”
Reviewed 24 August 2011

About one and a half km before Hakgala is another temple associated with Ramayana.
Sita Devi is said to have bathed in a stream at Sita Eliya when she was captured by the demon king Ravana and kept captive at Hakgala. The Sita Amman Temple is located at this very spot. Near the temple you can also see huge holes in the ground that are believed to be the footprints of Ravana's elephant.

Although the building is beautiful the temple itself is not in the best condition. It seemed like some reconstruction was started at some stage but then the idea was dropped. I do not like to say this about a place of worship but cleanliness was not it's strong point. The most scary thing is that violent monkeys are found inside and all around the temple. When you enter the temple they pounce upon you from the ceiling beams. I know that monkeys are revered by the Hindus but this gave us a real heart attack. So the faint of heart should not go to this temple.
