Review of Sita Temple

Sita Temple
Reviewed 7 April 2014

Sita Amman temple is a must visit place for Indians. Sri Lanka is associated with the Ramayana and this place, it is believed, where Sita was kept by the king Ravana. One can also see the footprints of Lord Hanuman here.

It was pouring cats and dogs when we visited this temple. It has a river flowing at the back of the temple and there's stairs leading down to the river. There's a footprint of lord Rama (supposedly). We couldn't go down as the river was gushing due to the rain. Beware of monkeys. The priests are approachable.

This is a must-visit for anyone who has been enchanted by the story of Ramayana. There is something very magnetizing about this temple despite it being small and very simple. You feel a certain energy being in that space. Do head to the right of the temple where you would get to see what is alleged to be Hanumans footprints (to some) or geographical potholes (to others). Either way, it's a really nice and enchanting place to be at for a short trip!

Knowing the old history does help.Place was known as Ashok Vatika where Ravan kept Sita ji for 10 months. This is also the place where Hanuman ji met Sita ji.There is a stream where she used to bathe.Place is a very simple temple with a lot of inner quiet and presence there.
