“Lovely staff with warm service”
Reviewed 16 April 2013

We stayed here for couple of nights and was very welcome by the lovely staff. Excellent food and clean accommodation, staff was more than happy to help with all the information you need to get around. All in all its a lovely place to settle if you looking for budget accommodation with a very good level of service.

We only spent one night here but if it had not been so late and then fact it was close to the train station i would have left after 30 mins of being there. The carpet in the bedroom was damp and smelt. The bathroom was not very clean and the place just felt cold, damp and musty. Having said that we did stay in one of the cheaper rooms and i guess you get what you pay for! Food was not great but it was hot. Avoid if you can!

I'd like to start my review with a great thanks to the super friendly staff who did whatever in their power to make us feel comfortable and welcomed. We booked this hotel through Agoda and we were positive that we would be treated with a delicious sri lankan dishes (as the plantation area is the best place to eat fresh vegetable curries) and would enjoy some peace and quite.Guess what!Non of the wishes came true!Living in Sri lanka for five years we have had food in so many family dinners and local restaurants and I can say with confidence that our lunch in "Ingle Wood Lodge" was a far away image from what we were used to.
The room was big with a comfortable mattress but the shower was broken and we had serious issue with the ever-going-cold hot water. As the room was located right next to the main road to Nuwara Eliya, the noise of passing cars and honking buses is why "a peaceful stay" is the last definition of our trip!

This place though small, was extremely comfortable. we had booked 3 rooms and all 3 were clean and comfortable. The staff was very very courteous and tried to make us happy in every way. The dinner they served was hot and very well prepared and teh breakfast was also very very good. I had asked for string hoppers for breakfast and they made sure it was there at the table. The girl at the reception was really very sweet and so was the owner and his brother. Overall a very pleasant experience!

We booked 2 nights at Ingle Wood Lodge, but left after one night without even asking for our money back. The rooms did not look like the pictures on the internet. The bedding was old and rough. There was an old shabby carpet throughout the hotel, including the rooms. The water did not work, so on 2 occasions, there were people in trying to fix it. Eventually, we managed a shower. If you get the room overlooking the street, you can hear the dogs barking throughout the night, and an early morning call to prayer on an intercom. Breakfast was included, but not good. The staff was doing what they could with what they had, but I was happy to leave after 1 night.

Ingle Wood Lodge surprisingly is private "Inn" with the Inn Keeper staying in the building. It is converted Hill-top large bangalow facing a beautiful hill-top adorned with pine trees amidst and surrounded by tea plants.

As soon as you arrived , guests are welcome by a nicely dress "inn" butler-like person typical of traditions left by the British Tea Planters. The Rooms are well-kept clean with clean bathrooms and plentiful hot water necessary for the cold nights on top of the mountains.

The climate is pleasantly refreshing though out the day and more so in the night. Morning wake up will want you to go out and walk along the small roads with the air offering the freshest of oxygen that "Adam" probably , may have chosen to stay around this place.

Breakfast comes with the fruits to provide the essential "enzymes" before the consumption of eggs and beef sausage [Halal]. [note. all beef, chicken, lamb, are slaughtered by Muslim butchers in most parts of Sri Lanka].

The quintessential Ceylon Highland tea is a must drink. Other guests from Germany , Australia and Yorkshire, England are friendly conversational company during breakfast.

Our early check-out, literally, [for the golf] had the owner Inn Keeper coming out to greet us and say farewell. [He has properties in Colombo it is the schools for the children].

We would certainly come again to this Lodge [not masonic of course].

Room Tip: For those wishing a quite, peaceful and silent night in the freshest of air and climate.

we have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. Its a small hotel, good rooms and bathrooms. meals provided were also excellent.

but what actually stood out is their staff. they are just the best. i sprained my ankle whilst trekking in Horton Plains and came back to the hotel with an extremely swollen foot.

we asked for ice but since it was in the hill country, there was no ice. instead the manager used egg whites to smooth over my foot. every two hour he came to over our room to apply fresh egg whites and even sending up dinner to the room (eventhough there is no room service).

he even came up the next morning to find out how i was doing. and truly, his treatment worked. the swelling was there but at least the pain was gone and i could actually walk.

in a place where you are all alone, the staff in this wonderful hotel treated me like a family member. i am really really glad i chose this hotel and would really recommend it to anyone.
