What an amazing and unique place to stay! Very different from all previous hotels we stayed in but very refreshing to see.
It's location is a bit cooler/wet than the other areas in sri lanka, but thats expected/needed for the best tea.
Hotel has been converted from old tea factory, keeping all original features. It is quite a rural location but this is needed for the tea factories full effect! Rooms are cosy (with carpet!) and staff were by far the friendliest in sri lanka!
Definitely go tea plucking and make your own tea.

We unfortunately only stayed here for one night but it was a fun packed stay. We did tea picking which is must, which involved a 40 min tea picking experience, in a sari! A lovely lady showed us what to do and took some amazing photos for us. She then gave us a guided tour of the process and tea was waiting g for us the next morning at checkout.

We then returned to the hotel for lovely tea and cookies. We were very tempted by afternoon tea but had already booked the carriage dinner which was to be 7 courses.

Dinner was delicious and so much fun! The gentleman in charge was just wonderful, he stayed in character all evening and really made the experience. There are only 4 tables in the carriage so make sure you book!

The rooms were great with a shower and bath and naturally complimentary tea! Breakfast next morning was great with lots of choice.

All the staff in this hotel are so very friendly and helpful and I cannot recommend I it highly enough.

Don't be put off by the appearance, from outside it looks like a corrugated shed, it has retained the features of the old tea factory. It was disappointing that on arrival they had all incorrect details on our booking in form and instead of printing a new one, I was told to cross out the wrong details and write mine in.
they do a tea picking experience which we missed as we weren't made aware of it, but overall a good stay.

So... you're travelling through the area - this has to be the place to stay?

The hotel is in a magical location in the middle of a tea plantation, a few kms away from the main road and with great views (weather dependent).

The building itself is a refurbished tea factory. The rooms are colonial chic, comfortable if not a little chilly in the climate of the area (heaters are provided but a sweater would come in handy).

Food in the restaurant was fine, not spectacular, just fine. There is a old railway carriage dining option, but that costs extra if you're half board.

The bar was also fine. Not super luxurious and looking a little in need of a few rupees spending on it.

The service was also fine throughout the stay but, sorry to say, we never really felt warmly welcomed. As seasoned travellers you can tell the difference between members of staff who really want you to come back and those that just want to do the job.

So it was a good stay, but left feeling a bit disappointed. It was great for a night but not sure we would want to stay for longer. Which is a real shame - because it could be a truly amazing hotel.

A three and half star review, rounded up because trip advisor makes me do so!

We were a family of seven on a seventeen days Sri Lanka tour. This was our 4th stop on tour. The drive from Kandy to the hotel is so scenic . The hotel doesn't look much from outside but it's beautiful once you walk in. We had a nice warm welcome. Staff are really courteous and extremely friendly. Our rooms were on the fourth floor ( executive floor). This floor comes with butler service. Views from our rooms were amazing. Rooms are really clean with comfortable beds. Bathroom could do with updating , especially the shower. Rooms have heaters and they do provide hot water bottle on request. We had the buffet dinner on both the nights we stayed here and it was delicious . On our first night it was Mexican and the second Italian , we really enjoyed our food. We were celebrating my mums birthday and they made her a lovey cake. Which was so nice of them. Breakfast was equally good especially the dosa's made by Mahesh.
In the morning we went for a 2 hour guided walk , which is organised by the hotel. We walked through the tea plantation and through a small village and back via the forest route. Our guide was lovey and very knowledgeable about the area and it was a nice way to see the tea plantation and the tea pickers . Very enjoyable. We went to Macwood tea factory , to see the process of making tea. The hotel also has a small working tea factory where they make organic tea which they sale only at the hotel. We preferred our guided tour of the Heritance tea factory , as it's small and not crowed and you can see the process up close. You can pick your own tea leaves and they will put them through the drying process ,ready for you to take home. We stayed here two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The climate is cooler here so pack a sweater and also they expect you to dress smartly for dinner.

Room Tip: Views from the fourth floor were amazing.

We stayed at the hotel for one night on our trip from Colombo to the East coast. The hotel was recommended by friends mentioning that they have their own organice tea production which is quite outstanding in this area.We received a free upgrade to a very nice room with a 270 degree view on the tea gardens and the park around the building.Everything in the hotel is a mixed style between old-factory and British-colonial,very impressive. We booked the tea production and tasting tour which is quite expensive (given that most of the tours in other plantations are for free). The tour was ok,although the English and in-depth knowledge of our guide were a bit poor. The buffet in the evening and in the morning was good, however charging extra for an espresso is quite unusual in a hotel of this category.

After a journey up a twisty road, we arrived at the Tea Factory. Stunning views, impeccable service, beautifully clean rooms and a gorgeous meal in the train carriage made this a stay to remember. I particularly recommend a before-dinner cocktail!
