Kapok Hotel & Resorts
Ranked #67 of 153 Hotels in Yilan County
Reviewed 20 November 2013

The Kapok Hotel has a very good location in Yilan. The Luodong night market is just around the corner as are may restaurants. We arrived a bit early for our rooms and were welcomed with coffee and banana cake for the short time we had to wait. The room was very spaceous and clean. Though it faced the street it was also not too noisy since we were quite high up in the building and we could see the mountains from our window. The breakfast was really good since it had western food as well as Chinese food. Everything was fresh and very tasty. There is also parking beneath the hotel, which is very convenient. The best thing about the Kapok Hotel, however, is the staff. Everybody was incredibly friendly and helpful. No matter if we were looking for activities in the vicinity of Yilan or a place that had vegetarian food (they not even found one, they also translated the menu for us) - the staff always helped us very quickly and usually did a lot more for us than we requested. We absolutely enjoyed our stay in Yilan at the Kapok Hotel and highly recommend it to anyone travelling there.

Pros:
1) Great buffet breakfast spread when you compare it to most Taiwan hotels. There were breads, nachos, biscuits, cereal, fruit, yoghurt drink, juice, milk, eggs, bacon, Taiwanese porridge, cabbage... However the spread was the same over the 2 days we were there.
2) The hotel rooms are spacious
3) Friendly hotel staff
4) Walking distance to Luodong Night Market
5) Free wi-fi

Cons:
1) Major toilet design flaws - absolutely no where in the toilet to hang your towels and the toilet gets wet after every shower (no shower curtain/partitioning)
2) You need to take a taxi to the train station. A taxi any where starts from TWD120.
3) No clothes iron in the entire hotel
4) No computers at the lobby for guests to use
5) The window blinds allowed plenty of light in, which woke us up very early every morning!

I made a boo-boo and cancelled the hotel reservation and only found out my mistake when we arrived. Thankfully there was an available room for us. We checked in on the night of my birthday and the hotel staff were most kind to give us a free room upgrade for the cost of a basic room. What a treat!

Best hotel stay during our 5-day trip to Taiwan.

The room is spacious and I like it that the floor is not carpeted.
The hotel is within walking distance to luodong night market too, abt 3 mins walk.
I wish it's breakfast hv more selection and that the quality of the food can be improved.

The Kapok Hotel and Resort is immaculately clean and offers beautifully furnished rooms with all the essential amenities. Breakfast is delicious with both Taiwanese and western style food. The hotel is located near the popular Luodong market.

Our stay at Kapok Hotel was memorable, thanks to Ms. Ally, the Manager, and Mr. Adnaan, the Chef. For example, while checking us in, Ms. Ally noticed my sister was coughing and immediately offered hot tea or hot water for her cold. It was a friendly, gracious act. Thank you, Ms. Ally.

A happy surprise during our stay was the the exquisite dinner (seven course, pre-fixe for about US$30) prepared by Kapok Hotel’s Chef Adnaan, who received his culinary training from a Michelin-rated chef in England. Chef Adnaan designed the menu to gradually increase the intensity of Indian flavors with each course. No heavy curry sauce; everything was light but very flavorful.

We started out with a delicate amuse bouche of passion fruit infused yogurt, followed by thin Indian bread topped with salsa and yogurt dip, then a perfectly balanced chicken soup with a hint of coconut milk and cilantro. After that, a simple broiled salmon and scallop dish, and finally the main entree of filet of the freshest small yellowfin tuna, served on a bed of lentils sauce with enough Indian spices to balance the richness of the tuna. The tuna was accompanied by rice, roasted peppers and special local string beans sautéd with a little garlic. Everything was cooked to perfection. The meal concluded with homemade ice cream (with cardamon and saffron flavor) and puff pastry filled with carrot/coconut milk puree. It was an amazing dinner.
