“Heavenly Haven”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

We stayed in Haven for a week in August 2013 ( my husband,13 year son and I) It really is the most idyllic and beautiful place and we're yearning to go back there! We found plenty to do, apart from swimming and boating we walked up to a waterfall and had an amazing massage in a small health spa at the other end of the beach. After each adventure we were welcomed back at Haven with ice cold beers or a gin and tonic and the most delicious food , shared by all at communal supper times. Just writing this review is maing me want to book flights immediately!! We travelled from North to South and arrived in Quy Nhon by overnight sleeper train - that was quite an experience - make sure to book a sleeper 3/4 days in advance. ( the first class air con carriage is not quite what was expected!!) We loved the location in a small unspoiled fishing village and made firm friends with the local children during swimming lessons in the sea. And fascinating to watch the loacl women playing bingo daily on the sand. All in all a fascinating and fantatci place to be.
The hosts are special as are the rooms - I would recommend to anyone in need of relaxation

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful.

My husband & I stayed at Haven over Easter 2014. Wow what an amazing holiday! We me some fantastic guests while we were there & that certainly added to the experience. Where do I start, so much has been said in previous reviews & it is all true.
The rooms are amazing, we had the balcony room, for the price it is unbelievable value. The little touches such as 2 boxes of tissues, lovely shower gel, hand wash, unlimited water certainly weren't expected for the small price you pay & room price also includes a great breakfast.
Steve & Gavin were the managers while we were there, what fantastic hosts they were. Rosie & Huw are very lucky to have them in charge, they certainly treat the guesthouse as if it were their own & they made us feel like lifelong friends not guests!! We wish them all the best whatever their next venture is. We were lucky enough to be there when they had Jack, a chef doing some work there as well, thanks Jack you do a mean Spanish omelette & a great carrot cake. Mind you Steves deserts are a highlight of an extremely good value dinner, not to be missed! The 2 Vietnamese ladies that help out & are involved in all the day to day activities are a fantastic asset to the guesthouse as well.
The guesthouse is on the beach at the bottom of the fishing village, this is a real fishing village, the locals go about their life & the guests seem to be of as much interest to them as they are to us. Bingo on the beach takes place each afternoon as does swimming for the children & dinner for the baby's. It's a simple life that is fascinating to be a very small part of. The children were enchanting!!! They know very little English & we know less Vietnamese but we interacted with a couple of them each day & looked forward to seeing them each day.
Don't miss one of the best beaches you could possibly find, about 500m from Haven past Avani is a pristine deserted beach, we spent a lot of time there & there were some days we only saw 1or 2 other people walking along the beach. Pretty close to perfect!!
We had a fantastic time, we would definetly return but I fear it will change in time as people discover this Haven!!! I certainly hope not.

Two nights at Haven was exactly what we needed after a five night motorcycle trip! We stayed in the private balcony room - with beautiful views of the beach and a magical sunrise. As this stay was at the end of a month long trip, we didn't take the time to venture out into the village that surrounds Haven, but are busily making plans for a longer stay next year which will provide the time to do so. The dinners were excellent, and a good value considering the convenience of not having to leave the grounds. Our grateful thanks to everyone at Haven who made our last two nights in Vietnam memorable and relaxing. Looking forward to a return stay!

Great seaside- bay setting here (magical fishing-lights at night!) and a nice small guesthouse. It’s a bit isolated but that is what we were looking for after the big cities of Vietnam. A nice chill-out place for relaxing and swimming.
From the highway, you walk though a small village that is densely packed with homes and basic shop fronts - the path ends at the beach and at Haven.
The property is gated in – you are steps away from the beach and a short walk to other beaches further south. The water is beautiful and refreshing and we had the best swimming in all of Vietnam right here!
Steve & Gavin are welcoming and personable and we had a nice time chatting with them about the area and travel in general.
They offer a pickup service from the train station or the airport.
Rooms are comfortable with a large bed, 2 night-stands, table & chairs, ensuite bathroom with plenty of towels. Common areas are nicely decorated and comfy: dining area, small bar, and lounge and a few relaxing/sunning areas.
A welcome drink is offered on arrival (nice touch). Breakfast is included in the rate and is communal (8:00am). It’s western offerings: eggs, or hashed potatoes with tomatoes, etc., baguette, jam, vegemite, etc. coffee, tea. I’d recommend adding a Viet. choice for breakfast.
There are just a few lunch choices (BLT or egg salad sandwich, hummus) since there is little in the immediate area. Convenient but, it would be nice to offer a bit more (Viet. choice, salad etc.)
Dinner is a set menu served at 7pm and is communal. Typically, a starter (soup), 2 choices for mains, a salad or vegetable dish, and dessert. The dinner was good, a bit on the high side for price (compared to some Quy Nhon places) but you are a bit remote here so there is the cost of getting the goods here. If you like to dine at your own time and order what you want, Haven may not be for you. We did not feel pressure to have the set dinner at all - they just need to know beforehand (by noon) if you plan to join them for dinner. Personally, we prefer to eat dinner when we want and order a la carte instead of a fixed meal at a fixed price and fixed time. But for 2 of the nights we did the dinner and it was fine.
Payment is by cash so stock up ahead of time with Viet. dong. ATMs are not in the village so you need to get cash at ATMs in Quy Nhon, not a problem – just plan ahead.
Quy Nhon is 25 minutes away by bus and we ate at one of those many great fresh fish restaurants along the lovely esplanade. Buses leave hourly and stop around 5:30pm (?) so plan accordingly (early dinner, taxi back etc).
Overall - great spot, wonderful night lights on the bay, nice property and hosts.... we'd just suggest tweeking some of the operating methods as mentioned.

Thank you so much for your review. We take on board your suggestion and will make sure that we explain more clearly to future guests the nearby alternatives for food ie those wishing to eat alone or Alacarte have the option of dining at the nearby resort or for something more local they can join the villagers at the well. We appreciate your honest feedback and will review your suggestions with the rest of the Haven family. Happy travels! Gavin, Steve and the Haven family.

The name of this place couldn't be more apt. My friend and I were cycling from north to south vietnam in 2012 and staying in all manner of guesthouses along the way. This was by far my favourite. Although more than the average cheap stay in Vietnam it is honestly worth every cent. From the walk down through the little village of bai xep, to the incredible view, it was just a gem. The food was delicious, the company inspirational, and the accommodation itself the best I found in the country, the beds were crispy clean, cool and oh so comfortable! Thank you so much for everything.

We were looking for a short stay between travelling from Nha Trang to Hoi An on our recent honeymoon from Scotland and i'm glad i went with my instinct and stayed here rather than the nearby, bigger Avani resort. There is a good set-up at Haven, all very relaxed (you just take a beer when you want 1 for example and write it in the book). The downstairs verandah room was excellent for the money, spotlessly clean and with a comfy bed and nice shower. Food was great too and sitting round the table as a group was enjoyable. If you walk along the beach past the rocks you get a beautiful deserted beach all to yourselves.
Another attraction of staying here is getting a chance to go in a coracle boat, just be prepared to completely fail to steer it then watch a small vietnamese man make it look easy....
Thanks to Steve and everyone at Haven for making it such a peaceful stay

This was the end of our 2 week-long trip so we wanted to relax and indulge ourselves with sun and sea. We found a perfect place. True Vietnam opened its face as soon as we arrived to Quy Nhon airport and all the way through the village and up to the Haven gates.
Small and cozy place with an access to three almost private beaches (the further - the quiter and cleaner it is), wonderful quiet rooms (especially after busy noisy Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh), great dinners, amazing hospitality and great people - both staff and other guests.
Actually, one of the most wonderful parts of staying was having our dinner seated at the same table as a big family.
The only drawbacks I can think of are restricted menu for the lunch (again due to small size).
Also, if you have an allergy to cats or dogs - please consider the other place as Haven has two dogs and two kittens.
