“Stoney Creek Cottage is a haven full of charm and thoughtful touches.”
Reviewed 12 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

The information on the owner's website was very helpful to us, but we were really delighted when we opened the door of the cottage because it was even better than the pictures we'd seen! It is full of charm and very thoughtful touches everywhere. Beautiful decorations, comfortable furniture, and everything you could possibly need to actually "live" is there already! It felt like a home away from home the minute we drove up. The landscaping is beautiful! It was cool that there were lots of interesting birds that we could watch at the feeders from sitting on the front porch. Thankfully the air conditioning was on and worked well because it was hot and humid the whole time we were in the area. We actually stayed in the cottage and relaxed for a lot of our stay. The cottage was exceptionally clean - the best I have ever stayed, seriously. You don't need to bring sheets because theirs are very soft, clean and comfortable. All towels are there to use. A nice touch was that there are little flashlights and nightlights all around so you don't trip in the dark. All kitchen utensils and cutlery and dishes were there to use, and a dishwasher to clean them! There are books to read, games to play and a TV/DVD (which we didn't use.) The owner has thought of everything! Also, there is a huge hot tub on the back deck. There are plenty of chairs and picnic tables. The side yard has a tree house for kids to climb up. We could even use the garage to park in. One thing we loved, because it was so nice of the owner to do this, was that the firewood was all cut up and ready to use for the fire ring in the backyard and the fireplace inside. The fire ring is great because it has a grill that swings out over the fire and back out of the way for barbecuing. We were able to make quite a big bonfire very safely because the height of the actual metal ring. We were lucky and there was plenty of clear running water in Stoney Creek which is right there running along the backyard and it was a lot of fun to walk in and skip rocks. Sitting on a rock in the middle of the creek was very peaceful. It was really neat when we saw a rabbit actually swim across the creek. It was also very thoughtful of the owner to provide a notebook full of information about the area, and a list of special events going on in the area, right on the coffee table for us to look at and plan outings. I didn't need to do research to find things to do! Yay! If you are interested in Native American history, the cottage is about 15 minutes away from an outdoor amphitheater drama enactment of Tecumseh, with real horses and a lake, which is absolutely AMAZING. (Be forewarned that it is very poignant and there is not a happy ending.) Our trip had a sad ending too because we wanted to STAY at the cottage, didn't want to leave but.... As is tradition, we burned a candle to add to the big one before we left.

Tips and Awareness: Make sure you bring your own coffee but there is a nice size coffee pot already there. Bring aluminum foil and paper towels. There is some traffic on the road which is near the front and side of the cottage. There is a bright light on a telephone pole that illuminates the backyard in the evening. There is one neighbor on one side who is not far away. There are instructions for everything there to anticipate all your questions. Enjoy!
