Our Red Hat group did lunch there yesterday. Tables were placed together before we arrived to give us a semi private dining area. Queso flambeado and guacamole were our appetizers of choice. Queso was 3 cheeses with chorizo melted then set briefly aflame with tequila on top. Guacamole was pretty good, too. Their salsa is not the traditional tomato, jalapeno and onion...instead a mix of black beans, corn, tomato,...tasty but not the normal salsa. My tipalia (6 of 10 of us had it) was lightly pan fried, covered with a zippy salsa...served with rice and black beans was great. Fast attentive service....a great time was had by all.

We had a wonderful meal at Rolando's this week. We love different types of food and are always looking for new places. Rolando's is not Tex-Mex. It is South American cuisine. It is similar to Mexican food but with different flavors and spices. My wife had a wonderful quesadilla with red onions, goat cheese, and chicken. I had a spinach burrito with chicken and fresh vegetables. We will be back.

After a very disappointing meal on Saturday evening, we stopped in Rolando's for a late lunch on Sunday afternoon. Our server, Mark, was quick to explain that their food was South American - not Mexican, and everything was prepared in-house. The food is not spicy hot like Tex-Mex, but is spicy in its own way. Sauces are made with an olive oil base or a sour cream base and not out of cheese.

The food was incredibly good. I had Popeyes' Burrito which is a burrito filled with fresh spinach, pulled pork that has been roasted for 24 hours, onions and other vegetables. It was out of this world! The black beans over rice were delicious as well and different from any black beans that I have eaten before. Mark recommended Quesadillas de Chivo, and my wife had this. The quesadillas were filled with goat cheese, pork, onions and vegetables, and it was heavenly. I managed to get one taste of her meal before she scarfed it down.

We shared the hot rum cake with caramel sauce and whipped cream, and it was delightful. The cake - made in-house - was light and fluffy, and the sauce complimented it really well. It was well worth the splurge in calories.

While the food was served quickly, it is definitely not "fast food", and it is very reasonably priced.

I do not know how one could leave here disappointed.....end of story. The location is convenient if you find yourself along bathhouse row.
