The Knights Inn, Cortez, Colorado, is the best deal I found in town this time through. The room is clean and large, and the staff friendly. It has everything a budget motel room should have, and at least room 129 is abundantly large enough for a family of five.
My first pleasant surprise upon opening the door was the way the beds were made. The owners have put some thought into the way the room looks, instead of flinging the usual gaudy motel comforters on the beds. Each bed has 3 large pillows neatly lying against the headboard. A tan blanket, turned back, and a red-ochre runner at the foot of the bed resemble the colorful rock strata of Mesa Verde, towering over Cortez to the south. I don't know if they do this in every room, but as a geologist and artist, it struck my fancy.
The staff are European, and can speak German. The wi-fi network is extremely zippy--I've downloaded some very large files for my one-day-old computer in no time.
The Knights Inn in Cortez, Colorado, is a fine budget motel, run by knowledgeable hosts. It gets the best possible recommendation from me, and I would recommend this motel to my friends and family. If you want a fancy motel room for well over a hundred dollars a night, you can get that somewhere else in Cortez. But if you don't light your cigars with hundred-dollar bills, so to speak, come to the clean, spacious, and affordable Knights Inn.
