We stopped in Cortez on a road trip for a one-night stay and were pleasantly surprised by the Retro Inn. We had been driving around town for a reasonably priced room, noticing that the standard hotel chains were very pricey in the area (understandably since Mesa Verde is so close). We snagged the last room at the Retro Inn and had a wonderful overnight stay. The rooms were spotlessly clean, no odors, and even had Keurig coffeemakers. We had been traveling for quite some time at that point in our trip and this little hotel was by far the cleanest and most pleasant. It was very quiet and the walls and doors were insulated enough to keep out the nearby traffic noise. The rooms were also very big and the beds comfortable.
The front desk staff was very helpful and recommended a restaurant across the street where we had amazing burgers. The Retro Inn is lacking in the breakfast department, offering items like cereal and pre-packaged muffins, but it is a value motel and we weren't expecting anything elaborate. My only other complaint was that the WiFi was a little spotty.
I would recommend the Retro Inn for road trippers traveling through Cortez for the night or for people visiting Mesa Verde.
