“For small children: superb”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

The museum is one of the best places to go in Madison if you have small children and want to keep them busy for a morning. Our 2 and 3.5 yr olds had a blast. The couldn't believe they were allowed to play with water in all its forms, to paint on windows and make a mess and to press every button and switch they could get their hands on. It is definitely made for these ages as I imagine older kids would get bored real fast.

“May be good if you haven't been to others”
Reviewed 4 July 2014 via mobile

If this is your first or only Children's Museum, it really is fun and filled with great activities but if you have been to others, you will be disappointed.

We normally budget two hours but end up spending double that at these fun filled museums. Our children, ages 5 and 10, were ready to go after an hour at this one. If your children are under five, you will have a fun filled day. Over five will quickly pull on your arm looking for additional entertainment and will be ready to go.

The price on these museums vary from place to place and this one was on the high side.

“Awesome”

We got a Groupon for reduced entry and loved every minute. There were so many things to engage and entertain the children - from climbing and sliding to creating Lego masterpieces. The museum has been carefully planned and laid out with children in mind, and fully utilises the space.

Make sure you get to the roof to enjoy the rooftop permaculture garden and it's brilliant nature area (turtles, insects, chickens, and tools for exploring).

The only thing that let us down was the staff. They expect you to be with and engaging with your children (which might be hard with more than one child) all the time. During our visit it was not very busy and my children wanted to explore and play on their own, which should also be encouraged to a degree. The staff didn't seem to smile easily and we were disappointed when they could not answer some very basic questions about what was happening in the museum, summer camp, etc. Sadly, they could not even tell us what type of chickens they were raising (clearly more than your average chicken breeds). Why not have pictures of them labeled with their breeds?

Despite this, I am giving them full marks for being a great facility and would go again. I can't imagine children having anything but a brilliant time here.

“Fun outing for a rainy day!”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

I had a ton of fun with my toddler! Everything is hands on and they have a lot of activities for all ages. It was a bit expensive to get in, but since we don't go that often I thought it was worth it. The cafe inside was a nice spot to have lunch and you can carry in your own food if you don't want to buy food there.

I took my nephews (9,6,4) when visiting from Charlotte.. they reluctantly went, but we had to drag them out after a couple hours. They loved it! and even we adults had fun and learned too!
