Owner description: This seven-block bustling thoroughfare, which runs between Capitol Square and the university, buzzes with activity day and night, offering a diverse array of coffeehouses, ethnic restaurants, bookstores, art galleries and specialty shops.

State Street is worth a stop if you are in the Madison area. It's a lively, casual area that, while diverse, definitely speaks to the college town where it's located. It's one long street of unique shops (although there are some recognizable brand names there, too, like Gap), restaurants, and cafes (again with some recognizable names like Five Guys). There is something for everyone here. There is a great bookstore (A Room of One's Own), a quaint gelato shop (La Coppa Gelato Café), and a nice Italian restaurant (Tutto Pasta Trattoria) worth checking out along the way, plus so much more. Parking is located nearby and the rates are extremely reasonable. You could easily spend half a day here if you ate a meal and browsed the shops.

You can find food, drinks, and plenty of shops. We were happy to find 3 great used bookstores, but really enjoyed watching the people go by.

If you like seeing a little bit of everything, State Street is the place! It is always fun and we always see something new when we walk through. From shops to restaurants, a fabulous art museum. great ice cream and BEER, plenty of BEER! There is always something happening on State Street. It is one of the most popular hang-outs for UW students, both young and old.

A central point of the city calls upon your attention, since you have good places to eat, shops, supermarket, bookstore (where I purchased a second hand copy of the classic novel The Virginian, by Owen Wister), and the wonderful shop dedicated to the University Team. Students and all citizens can find goods not only for school classes but also for crafts and leisure. A good place to be! And quite a plesant City.
