“Beautiful evening concert on the Square”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

On the evening we were there, the Madison orchestra performed the works of John Denver and Dan Fogelberg. Vocalists were great and orchestra was very Boston Pops-like. Fun evening in front of the beautiful State Capitol building in downtown Madison.

“Beautiful Music”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra performs on the Square free of charge about 4 times during the summer. Patrons bring a picnic dinner and their blankets or special lawn chairs when they attend this event. If you like you can purchase food from the many vendors that are nearby. The music is first rate and very professional. I've never been disappointed in the music in the decades that I have attended.

There are one or two drawbacks to the concert. First, there are toilet facilities, but the ones inside the Capitol are somewhat difficult to find. The other problem is that often patrons talk or children run about making noise during the concert. It seems they use the concert for background music for their chatter rather than for the wonderful performance at hand. To avoid this problem it is best to look for a spot where there are fewer people. There's no problem in hearing the music since there are great speakers all around the Square.

Parking is available at a cost in the city ramps or on the street.

“The table was fantastic!”
Reviewed 1 August 2013 via mobile

We have been going to the concerts on the square for many years. Our children bought us tickets for a table up near the orchestra for our anniversary. It was most delightful. The music was wonderful and the food service great. The tables were decorated with fresh roses and white linens. It iwas definitely an evening to remember.

“A Bunch of Posers”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

The Madison Symphony is pretty good, and their selection of music is pretty good too. On nice days the concerts are a great pass time. When its hot, forget about it... its a nightmare. If you really like the music it is great. My beef is so many of the people there are just posers who think that if they go there and are 'seen' then they are cool. They would not know the difference between a work by Mozart and monkey farting. Parking is beyond a nightmare, in general locals stay clear of the downtown area when the concerts are going on. Oh, and take sunscreen, bug spray. Lots of bug spray.
