“Much Better than Expected”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 via mobile

I haven't stayed in a Hampton Inn for a couple of years, so I was pleasantly surprised by this large, modern building. Comfortable beds, well equipped rooms, but the comforter on the bed was much too heavy for this time of year. Standard breakfast buffet with plenty of seating. $12 per night for parking with in/out privileges. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate available in the spacious lobby around the clock.

We're pleased to hear that, Kim, thank you! We're a different style than the classic Hampton that created so many loyal fans of the brand but, we'd like to think, we're all that good Hampton stuff but with a cherry on top. Thank you for staying with us and here's hoping we can welcome you again.

Warm regards,

Michael

The hotel was very clean and every single person that worked there was extremely friendly, helpful and attentive from the cleaning staff to the front desk. The lobby had nice fireplaces and seating. The hotel itself is very conveniently located to downtown and the UW Campus.

Although this hotel had great reviews, we were still pleasantly surprised. The hotel feels new and it's very clean. The decor is modern and it has some very nice design features including plenty of photos of the Wisconsin countryside.

The front desk staff were very friendly and the location was perfect for us. We were able to easily walk to shops and restaurants, to the University Terrace and to the Capitol for the Farmer's Market.

The pool is stocked with kiddie toys (should you need them) including noodles, balls and water guns(!).

Fantastic! Thank you for sharing that review. It just got posted in the office for the rest of the team to read. I'm very pleased things went well and that you appreciated the pool toys. Note to self: More water guns!

with thanks,

Michael

Stayed here 3 nights for a work trip. The hotel is new and nicely decorated. The common spaces are inviting with fireplaces and soft chairs and sofas to sit. I was given a suite, Room 732 that was really nice. Had a separate living area with loveseat and kitchenette (fridge, micro, sink). It was a corner room with great big windows, so nice view of town. The bathroom was enormous with a jetted air tub, walk in shower and double vanity with vessel sinks. The room was very nice. However, the windows didn't seem to do much about keeping the street noise out. Even though I was on the 7th floor, it was like the trucks and cars were driving right by the window. It must be something to do with the window construction, because I could also hear other people lowering their shades as if they were in the room. Kind of weird. Sleep suffered as a result of the street noise.

The free breakfast is also a plus. The fitness room was well equipped with 3 treadmills and 3 ellipticals. Did not get a chance to use the pool/spa.

This is good feedback, thank you. We've not had that particular concern (street noise through the window) mentioned yet so we'll definitely be evaluating that. I'm concerned about it not being a restful night, however. Please contact me at your earliest convenience so I can start the process to make that right. Thank you for taking time to share with others your experiences here. We look forward to talking with you soon,

Michael

Excited about staying in Downtown Madison at the brand new Hampton Inn and Suites, our joy soured once we walked in the front door. We were greeted by a snippy young woman who passed us along to Matt--thank goodness. How nice it would have been if the rude young woman had let Matt handle our requests without offering her unwanted comments. Matt answered our request for a larger room, doing all he could to help us--oh that the Hampton Inn could have many Matts on hand to service its customers.
After a dinner out, we returned to the hotel, about 9 p.m. to inquire about the location of the biking trail. Two young women were at the desk--the one who we directed our question to acted like we were a bother and didn't try very hard to assist us. The other one just passed us a map.
It seem this very nicely decorated hotel, with its great location, has some work to do on training its young people--perhaps Matt could lead a class for them in customer service.
We were set to stay at the hotel for four nights, but because of the service we went to another Madison hotel, not near as new, or close to downtown, but one sure to be more professionally run.
It seems if you're not at this Hampton Inn for business purposes you are treated quite shabbily. We won't be back and I'll do my best to tell others to avoid this Hampton Inn at all costs.

Thank you, sincerely, for taking time to share these thoughts. My goodness, though, how disappointing. We respond so often to guests who feel our service is what brings them back so it's alarming that we fell down on the job so badly for you. Please contact me directly at your earliest convenience so we can start to make this right: michael.luehrs@hilton.com.

We take your comments very seriously and we regard this as fuel to redouble our efforts to bring better service to each guest in the future.
Thank you for inspiring us to improve.

(Oh, and your comments on Matt are appreciated.. we'll certainly include him in the process!).

looking forward to talking with you soon,

Michael

This is an almost brand new Hampton Inn and if you’ve stayed at other Hampton Inns, this one is not like most of the others that you see near highway offramps. This is a nicely designed high rise that is very close to the University, State Street and the Capitol. It has an ‘integrated parking’ ramp meaning the parking lot is located inside the hotel building itself occupying several levels of the first few floors of the hotel. That parking is $12 a day and finding an open parking spot outside the ramp is very difficult so you are pretty much stuck paying for parking. You have to use the room key to use the elevator to go to guest floors so that random parkers using the elevator can’t access the floors with rooms, which is an excellent safety feature but inconvenient if you forget your key. All keys are ‘smart keys’ so no more magnetic stripe readers that are prone to not work or the stripes that are prone to easy erasure. The rooms feature very comfortable beds with plenty of soft pillows. The rooms are very quiet which is important in a city that prides itself on its partying. We had a room with 2 queen beds which meant very little open floor space so it was a bit tight. But looking at the floor plan the hotel seems to have many different room types and some are quite large. If you think you need more space, it would seem like they could easily accommodate guests that need additional space, unlike some Hampton Inns which are pretty limited to basic room types. The room temperature was hard to keep level. It would get hot in the room and the A/C would kick in and then it would get very cold in the room and then it would fluctuate. It seemed to not keep a constant temperature. There were plenty of recharging outlets and the free WiFi worked very well. The room had a large closet and a stable work desk with a nice chair for work if needed.
The bathrooms were bright and had a high sink which is appreciated if you are taller but the amenities were smallish. The tub/shower appears to have a tile surface but if you look closely you can see it is a manufactured tub surround made to look like tile. But it is all new and in good working order. The showers feature WaterPik heads but the pressure was somewhat low.
There is in room coffee and a microwave and fridge along with the typical Hampton Inn free breakfast. But being so close to campus there are many other breakfast options close by if you want to pay for something more substantial. The hotel has a smallish pool but a decent sized fitness center. We did not swim not use the hot tub. There are other Hampton Inns in Madison so be careful that you note that you'd like to book the one in downtown Madison, which is probably the best one.

Room Tip: You might get better views if you are on a higher floor.

Wow, it looks like you had a nice stay. Thanks for some valuable feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the downtown area! You're correct- we do have many spacious room types in addition to our more economical rooms. Please contact me personally to discuss the A/C unit at michael.luehrs@hilton.com, I'm sorry to hear you had some difficulties with fluctuating temperature in the room and would like to look in to the unit in your specific room.

Warm regards,

Michael
