There are some interesting buildings & antique shops in this area. Overall it didn't reach anywhere near the expectations suggested by the many guidebooks.

Food, shops/markets, parks and history. What a wonderful place. Stroll along the Mississippi River. Check out Jackson Square, St Louis Cathedral and and easy walk down to the Spanish Plaza and the berth for our transport for the day - the Creole Queen.

TripAdvisor tricked me into this review, offering a single click per 6+ local points, now ethically compelling me to do full reviews. Really not fair!

The French Quarter. So many fine (truly) restaurants you can barely count. Many more that are merely very good. A handful that are intermittently dreadful. Music: Many excellent points, starting with Preservation Hall. Substantially dividing between the classical (jazz), the classical/exploratory, and the redneck rocknroll (biased? never). For a deeper, more exploratory, contemporary sampling try the Marigny and Frenchmen Street. Stores, shops, and street life - plenty.

I'm a local girl. Born & raised here. Although I consider Bonaire "home", I will always be Natchly Nawlins...The history & lore surrounding the Vieux Carre has to be experienced. Not only the naughty night side but the daytime beauty of the old buildings, the food & the "locals". It's an experience. Mardi Gras is not for the faint of heart or those who can't handle crowds. French Quarter Festival is a must!
