Blaine Kern, local artist, designer and mostly businessman, re-invented Mardi Gras float art into what you see today at the better parades during the parade season (those in New Orleans uptown and downtown the weekend before and through Fat Tuesday (i.e. Mardi Gras). This 'World' lets you peak behind the curtain to see what they do and how to make the great parades happen.

I went on the tour with my pre-teen daughter. It is kid-friendly. You start by watching a movie that overviews what Mardi Gras is and Blaine Kern's role in the parades and krewes. We had an excellent, and funny, tour guide who led us around the working space. We did see one artist working while we were there on a Sunday. There are a ton of fun photo opportunities here. At the end of your tour, you get a complimentary slice of Kind Cake.

We enjoyed Mardi Gras World. We did think it was a little overpriced. It was nice that they will come pick you up in a van, but we had difficulty getting them to come to the right place. It was really interesting to see the floats and that it was right on the Mississippi.

The last time we were in NOLA we had intended to spend some time at this popular attraction but we missed out , so this trip we made sure we had it on the schedule. I was slightly worried that we would miss a few things as our visit was shortly after the tug incident that wiped out part of their building. Not to worry as things had been shifted around and we felt that we weren't "shortchanged" in any way. The tour is very interesting and educational, great to see artists working on the floats. I would stongly recommend this attraction.
