Owner description: The Old Ursuline Convent was erected in 1745 and occupied until 1824 by Ursuline nuns as a convent, orphanage and school for girls. This historic building is now home to a brilliant museum with both permanent and changing exhibits.

we stopped by the Convent as we wanted to compare this to the one we had seen in Quebec City last summer. The grounds were beautiful and the building was interesting especially when a docent was showing us around and explaining each of the rooms. The most memorable part though was an exhibit that they have at present with respect to the life of Arch Bishop Hannan (he presided over the funerals for John and Robert Kennedy and was in Europe during WWII). Read the Prayer for the Saints - so well done.

Our guide told tales of vampires sealed in the attic with silver nails blessed by the pope. I'm not sure about all of that but the building was beautiful from the outside at night. We would go back for an inside tour if we're ever back in New Orleans.

Lots of history here. Make sure you visit the herb gardenn & if you can go into the church, ask guide to point of Battle of New Orleans stained glass window.

We paid the $10 per person to tour the old convent. When we got in we were able to go into the chapel. There was a movie playing that told about an Arch Diocese who had served at the convent and later was the Arch Diocese of DC. There were four other rooms we could tour and all of them had memorabilia relating to the "rock star" Arch Diocese. There was NOTHING about the history of the convent or of New Orleans. If you are looking to further edcuate yourself on the history of NOLA or the sisters then don't waste your time.

This is a self guided museum of the former Ursuline Convent. There isn't much information past specific Church held deeds and land records. The church itself is beautiful and warrants the visit. However, don't expect much from the museum side as its rather sparse and uninformative.
