Owner description: New Orleans' Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honor one of America's truest art forms - Traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture. Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 350 nights a year featuring ensembles from a current collective of 100+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition.

This is a true tourist destination! You go just for the experience. We waited in line for close to an hour - with reserved seats! The seat was a bench with no back and the people in front were so large I could hardly see the musicians. While the music was fun to listen to, you can hear just as good on the streets!

“More than I Dreamed!”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

It was a spur of the moment decision to go. There simply was not enough time to go with a packed school trip schedule, and the room was too small to take everyone anyway. But on a whim of passion, we grabbed the graduates away and walked right in on a Monday night with $15 standing room tickets.

It was a jazz masters night, and as it seems to be every night, the set was a short 45 minutes.

How do you really put into words a transcendent and transformative experience? The jazz was old ... it was smooth, it was inventive, it was captivating. I hung on every note as if it had deep and timeless story to tell. I did not know that jazz could do this for me. In the compact living room of the space, the dim lighting, the non-amplification, we were soul mates sharing a bit of history. It is an experience I will treasure along side the day I first knew that I loved classical music with an unending passion.

Go ... they will make a place for you ... just go!

The music was outstanding!!!! I would suggest getting tickets in advance unless you like standing in line and sitting on the floor.

Worth the experience of this iconic music hall. Very surprised by how small it was-a very intimate concert

“a NOLA must”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

we sat on chairs up front (most people were on benches or on the floor, but I guess we were among the oldest people there). it was fun to listen to jazz; sorry that I never visited when Louis Armstrong was alive and playing, but the tradition continues.
