Our entire experience at The Roosevelt was superb! The service was fantastic. We appreciated the restaurant suggestions from the concierge nightly. The beauty, charm and history of the hotel is really unmatched to anywhere else we've stayed. This is truly deserving of a 5 star status.

I booked this hotel for 5 nights as a surprise for my wife on what was our final destination after a three week tour of the deep south and which saw our arrival there coincide with our silver wedding anniversary.

The hotel is ideally situated for walking to the main sites within the city and as others have observed, there is no doubt that the lobby area is impressively opulent, however, somewhat surprisingly, the same cannot be said for large parts of the rest of the hotel.

Our room was on the 11th floor, but in truth, after exiting the elevator, our immediate impression was that the area hadn't been finished, such was the abundance of bare walls, with not a picture hanging anywhere down the corridors and a paucity of furnishings. It was only later we discovered that this was echoed on other floors too.

Our room was OK, but what was intended to give my wife that 'wow' factor as I opened the door, sadly did nothing of the sort and in truth, I felt a real sense of disappointment after my expectations had been raised with the impressive lobby area.

The absence of a doorman attending the Baronne Street entrance was a surprise and infact became an unwelcome one when we were sometimes confronted by beggars whilst entering the hotel. The concierge was first class and the spa desk staff very helpful, but conversely, we found the bell desk employee to be somewhat abrasive and the two suited individuals, who appeared at the excellent pool area every night to enforce its closure at 10,00pm, positively surly. There are ways and means of advising people an area is closing; it can and should be done with charm and a smile, but neither of these qualties were ever in evidence during our stay.

We had the distinct impression that the hotel has become so used to catering for the rich, that it has forgotten about those people who don't fit into this demographic, but simply wish to utilise it as a treat. Of the seven very mixed hotels we stayed in during our trip, this was by far the most expensive, yet conversely, it was also the only one which did not provide any form of complimentary hot beverages, either in the room or in the lobby area. Given the choice, we would much rather have had a kettle in our room than an utterly superflous portable television adjacent to our bathroom sink. I would add that whilst I am well aware mini bar prices are always expensive, $9.00 for a $1.00 Snickers bar is not expensive, it is offensive and completely unnecessary.

We have been lucky enough to stay at hotels like The Ritz in London and The Bellagio in Las Vegas and frankly, The Roosevelt fared poorly in comparison.

Given how I had planned for this to be the surprise highlight of our trip for my wife, it ironically proved to be the most disappointing. As an aside, despite advising the hotel of our anniversary milestone at the time of booking, not one word of recognition was given to my wife at any point during our stay and whilst I had no expectations of free room upgrades or the like, it would have been nice to have had some form of acknowledgement, even if it was only something as a simple as a flower being left for her in our room. The smallest of gestures are often the ones which are most remembered and relayed to others.

Interestingly, on the date of our anniversary itself, I had booked one final surprise, which was to take my wife for lunch at The Ritz. I won't elaborate on the manner in which we were treated after they discovered the reason for our celebration, but suffice to say, in those two hours, my wife was made to feel more special than she had been at any point during our five nights at The Roosevelt; I guess class really is permanent.

Hotel was very clean and in a fairly safe part of town. Was there for a wedding and the reception was in the hotel also. It was a first class reception. Staff was friendly and helpful. My only grip was with Hilton Honors. I did not get my full credit, for the money I spent in the stay. Also there were sirens going through the neighborhood all night, and bells ringing from across the street, but that was not the fault of the hotel. Other than this, the stay was perfect. I would stay here again.

Our suite was nice, although the air conditioning seemed erratic and difficult to set. Do not investigate the contents of the fridge or you will be charged...but they are very understanding about one's ignorance of how this works, so will reverse silly charges caused by curiosity. Our stay was very nice, but I wish I had known that there are no coffee/tea making facilities in the room! This is a big drawback! The concierge & door staff were phenomenal....so efficient and helpful. We did not use the restaurants and bars, which seemed either expensive or noisy. However the location was very good for our needs, and we found wonderful off the beaten track places instead.

Room Tip: We chose a suite as the room sizes seemed tight. Rooms on the pool side are probably quieter.

It's not very often that you stay in a hotel filled with history and charm and still find a comfortable bed and all the amenities you've come to expect in a luxury hotel (except a coffee maker in the room--I hate having to go downstairs in the morning for a cup of joe and I'm too impatient for room service). The bed was very comfortable, the room a really nice size for a big city. Unlike many "older" hotels in New Orleans or elsewhere, it did not smell musty. The texting service with the front desk is very convenient--helped us get late check out, print tickets. Will definitely stay again and again. My first choice in NOLA.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. We didn't have one, which was fine because we were busy and only st...

I stayed with friends and we had a gorgeous room. The hotel has amenities by "Feragamo" no less. It's within easy walking distance of the streetcars, French quarter and riverwalk. We took the streetcar down St. Charles to visit the Riverbend area. Don't forget the pool outside on the 5th floor complete with bar.

Room Tip: We overlooked Roosevelt Way and it was a typical city view. Not sure if the view from Baronne would...

The Roosevelt lived upto the expectations of a 5 star historic hotel. We were greeted pleasantly from the time we pulled into the valet to the time we left. Accomodations were excellant. The attention to the detail of the hotel for the period it was built was great. We were able to walk or take the streetcar to most of our tourist spots.
