“Charming Hotel in the French Quarter”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

This hotel is in a great location in the French Quarter, and the view from our balcony, with tall buildings in the background, and the rooftops in the forefront, was breathtaking. The view was a delight to just sit and study. Parking is a little tricky. This is a very busy area. The parking garage is about 3 or 4 blocks away from the hotel, so you have to unload all your stuff and put it temporarily in the office area, then go park your car in the garage, and walk back to the hotel. And there is no designated space for parking temporarily while you unload your things in the office. We were initially given a room on the second floor. This room was extremely small and there was no privacy for each other at all. Even a married couple needs a little bit of privacy! There was no coffee pot, no fridge, no microwave, and no room to spread out. The bed was very comfy though. We slept very well. We were not happy for those first two nights but resigned ourselves to making the best of the situation. Then, Barbara, who works at the front desk, let us move to room 401 for the last two nights. This was like going from dark to daylight! If you stay here, try your best to book room 401. Barbara was great! There was a small refrigerator in room 401, still no coffee, but they do have very good coffee available in the office. The Hotel Villa Convento was not the most professionally run hotel we have stayed in, for instance, the maid did not show up on our last day, and the rooms could have been a little cleaner, but it was charming and convenient, the beds were very comfortable, it is a very old building which added to the overall experience of staying in the French Quarter. I would definitely stay again in the future, but only if room 401 is available.

Room Tip: Request room 401.

My wife & I were traveling with another couple on our way to FL and spent one night here. Great location and only a couple of blocks to all the clubs and restaurants. We stayed in a balcony queen and the room was very functional and clean. Our friends stayed in a courtyard queen and this room was also very clean and nice. We left the same day that NOLA had their annual Red Dress Run. This would be a good time to mention that the hotel parking garage is about five blocks away. It is covered parking which was nice, just so far away! Anyway, on my way back to the hotel to pick up my wife and friends along with our luggage I got stuck behind the participants in the run and could not make it back. In calling my wife on this fact she had me speak with the hotel clerk who instructed me to a location. While I waited he was kind enough to assist my wife and friends lug their bags over three blocks to the car. This was customer service above and beyond what one would expect! I cannot remember the young man's name but thank you! Everyone we dealt with at the hotel was very nice and considerate. All in all a very positive experience and I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms are roomy, quiet, and nice. The balcony rooms face East and you get a lot of mor...

Stayed for 2 nights last weekend. From Barbara taking the reservation and Vince and Warren at front desk you could not ask for better front desk help or pleasantness . We had a suite on top floor and so enjoyed the balconies overlooking the city. As previous posters have mentioned its not the hotel with all amenities it's the hotel with all the Charm. Kinda hated to do this review as I wanted to try and keep this place a secret! But it deserves to get these great reviews. Again it's not for everybody but it sure is for us. Just called back today and will return in October!

I've been to New Orleans many times, but could never afford to stay in the French Quarter before. This spot is the best location: in the lower Quarter. It's nice and quiet at night, but still walking distance to Bourbon, restaurants, the river, and Frenchman Street. Cute bakery right across the street for breakfast; parking is secure and away from tourist areas. But the best part is the helpful staff, and the views! Gorgeous patio, and every room has a little balcony. I stayed in the suite on the top floor. It has views from two sides, all the way to the river, and a claw foot tub and large bathroom. See the charm of New Orleans in this homey home away from home!

My husband and I just got back from a 4 night stay at Villa Convento and loved it! I called in to reserve the room and Barbara set up the perfect corner room-- a great balcony, plenty of space, wonderful views, and the exposed brick on two sides. For the price, this place is amazing. It's plenty secure, free parking (which can easily run $30-$40+ per day otherwise), a short walk to Bourbon, Decatur, and the Trolley Line, the building has some ambiance and history behind it, and even rumors of being haunted (as best we can tell, room 302 is not haunted!) All of the staff are great. Free Community Coffee and hot water/ tea is always available. They also have Zapp's chips for $1 plus a few other snacks for purchase. Croissant D'Or across the street makes for a great breakfast. Several other great places are also nearby if you don't mind walking a few more blocks. We never had to get our car out of the garage or call a cab; everything was in walking distance or just a few transfers away by trolley!

Room Tip: Do not book online- call! If you look through several reviews for this hotel, you notice the happier...

Hubby and I stayed this two nights this past weekend. The front desk young man was so pleasant and hospitable. This place was built in the 1830s, so it is old, but has so much charm. We had room 300 with a balcony view on Ursuline. The balcony was my favorite part! The pastry shop across the street had an awesome breakfast. You can't beat the price of the Villa and you certainly can't beat the free parking! We didn't use the garage for parking since we were able to park out front on the street. The location is great, right between Jackson Square and Frenchman St for the nightlife.

We stayed here for the first time this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. We could not have asked for a more perfect stay. Our room was 101 near the courtyard. It was always clean, the staff was always friendly, the location was so convenient and we appreciated the free parking. Although we did have some noisy neighbors, we've come to expect that from the FQ, so we weren't too bothered. The bakery across the street is so darling too. We look forward to our next visit. Thank you Hotel Villa Convento!
