“Fine stay”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Stayed at the VC for the 1st time this past October, staying in a budget room. The room was much larger than I was expecting since it was a budget room, located just off the small courtyard, with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The sink area was located outside the bathroom, which added to the feeling of being spacious.

If you book here, you are not getting a high class hotel. No amenities, no mints on the pillow, not even a telephone in the room (which I found very odd). And it could use some TLC (fixing peeling wallpaper in bathroom, courtyard could use a good cleaning and sprucing up, and why would you ever paint a brick wall). But if you're looking/needing a budget hotel that is clean, quiet, in a good location in the French Quarter, the VC is more than sufficient. I would stay here again.

Recently visited New Orleans and had the distinct pleasure of staying at the Hotel Villa Convento in the Quarter. It is an older hotel which has an amazing unique character with a very convenient location. Now by no means is this a fancy hotel and it definitely does not provide the same amenities that you'll find at one of the big chains. That being said, what it does offer is a very friendly, conscientious staff who will go out of their way to help you enjoy your visit. Yes the rooms and the décor are dated and there are no phones in the guest rooms. And I also understand, some rooms don't have televisions if that is really important to you. What the Villa offers is a location second to none, from the croissant bakery immediately across the street to the modest two block walk to Jackson Square and the French Market and a similar short walk to Bourbon Street. I would definitely visit the Villa Convento again!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking Ursulines Street!

This isn't an impeccable 5 star property but an old residence that is showing its age. If you need a *perfect* room like you would find at the Hyatt, Hilton or Sheraton this hotel isn't for you. If you like a little flavor in life then by all means stay at the Hotel Villa Convento. The location couldn't be better nor could the staff be friendlier. Would return.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms have one bed, courtyard room two.

This is a decent hotel with a great location in the Quarter. less than a ten minute walk from Jackson's Square and only a short walk to the French Market. The price really cant be beat for the location. Room was clean if a bit dated. and Overall a great place to spend a weekend.

If you were around in the '60's, or have ever listened to oldie stations, you will recall hearing the classic "House of the Rising Sun" a haunting rock song belted out by Eric Burden and the Animals. It is a gritty and moving chronicle of life in an old New Orleans bordello--and today you can stay in that very same place. Although it's bordello days are over, you almost feel as if you were back in time as you walk the winding corridors and climb the narrow staircases. A deep sense of history hangs like drapery all over the place. As many readers have noted, if you are looking for homogenized five star elegance, this is not the place for you. If, however, you are intrigued by old world New Orleans, and want to feel a part of that history, this place has your name on it. We had accommodations on the second floor that were cozy, comfortable, and appealing. My dad had a few different rooms on the ground level, all ideal for a senior with difficulty climbing steps. There are some rooms with balconies, some that are off an interior courtyard on ground level, some high up in the heart of the building. Really, something for just about any preference. If staying in the French Quarter is a priority, your location here, close to the French Market (less than a ten minute walk to Cafe du Monde) is perfect. Add to this the miracle of off site complimentary parking, and affordable rates, it is no accident that this property is so highly rated. And, perhaps best of all, you are not only away from the noise and madness of Bourbon street and the clubs, you are hosted by some of the most extraordinary individuals I have ever had the pleasure to meet. In a city known for its friendliness, these fine people top the list--the care and concern that they showed to our party, especially my elderly dad, was extraordinary. The employees went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible, and worked with us to accommodate a change which needed to be made in our schedule. As others have already noted, these folks feel more like friends than anything else. Warren, Vincenzo and Triskell were a true pleasure to deal with, and if you want to meet the most adorable little dog in the universe, ask to say hello to Vincenzo's rat terrier. It will be love at first sight.

Room Tip: Ground level rooms are great for seniors or anyone with ambulatory issues.

We wanted an authentic New Orleans hotel, to stay somewhere that you knew you were in NOLA instead of being in any city in America. The hotel is obviously an old house but that is part of the charm. The view from our balcony was incredible, we could see the sun rise over the old convent and set over the French Quarter. It was a short walk to the action without any of the noise or excitement. Be sure to step across the street to Croissant D'Or for breakfast! The room itself was small but plenty big for us, we didn't plan on spending much time there. Our biggest complaint was the room seemed humid, even with the AC running and it wasn't humid outside. There also is not a clock in the room, not big deal but it seemed odd. We would stay there again.

So much charm in this little hotel on the edge of the French Quarter and right across the street from a great breakfast cafe. The staff was so nice and helpful, giving us restaurant and tour advice. The only downside was the bed was a little uncomfortable and the air conditioner was little loud, but the price was great and I would definitely recommend it!! Loved our stay here, I would stay here again!
