“Great stay in N.O.”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

First off, the location couldn't be any better.

Step out the front door and your looking at Jackson square and Cafe Du Monde. Room are very clean and the staff was very professional. We even took a ride of the Jump on/off tour bus. I wish we had gotten the name of the lady giving the tour. She is a native and her son is a lawyer. Fantastic tour.

Absolutely would recommend this hotel.

Another great visit to New Orleans and the French Quarter. The hotel is located next door to Jackson Square, in the heart of the city. We were there for our anniversary and it was my first visit to the Place d' Armes and we will return. Prices were comparable to other properties, but the best feature is the outstanding courtyard. The lovely pool area is a great place to have cocktails and enjoy the surroundings.

We had a pleasant time at the Place d' Armes Hotel. The location of the hotel is next to Jackson Square and a block or two of the major tourist attractions in the French Quarter. We were pleased to find out they keep our car on site in their garage that felt secure (Other hotels we read have a valet service that would park the car blocks away from the hotel). When we arrived, we found out they upgraded our room to a suite for free where we had a nice view of their courtyard. The room we had was a nice old fashioned style room with the chandelier, large mirror, and fire place. The kitchen had a refrigerator, sink, and microwave. We took a ghost tour on our first night. The tour guide said there is burnt children and the ghost from Muriel's haunting the hotel. We did not experience any ghosts. The only two things we wished the hotel improve was the breakfast and the timing of room service that came between 4 and 5pm when we were returning from the room from a day of sight-seeing.

We have gotten where we don't want to fly in or out of New Orleans without spending at least a day or two in the French Quarter. There is no better located hotel for this purpose than the Place d'Armes. It is a stones throw from Jackson Square, right in the heart of the Viex d' Carre. The prices are reasonable, the courtyard is wonderful, and the entire staff are both friendly and responsive. The morning breakfast is a great start to any day spent exploring the quarter. We have stayed here @ least a half dozen times and have enjoyed each of the rooms in which we have stayed---all of which are quite unique to one another. This hotel has old New Orleans charm mixed with modern conveniences. We could not recommend this establishment more enthusiastically.

Room Tip: This is a must stay if y'all are in the French Quarter.

We were
in New Orleans for a much needed vacation. We were only planning to stay 2 nights. When we arrived at the hotel, we knew we had to stay longer. We called the front desk and they were very accomodating and put us in for another night. I have always stayed in the high rise hotels in the quarter, but this time I wanted the charm of a historical and charming hotel and that is exactly what I got. Service was very good. Location! Location! Location! I will be staying at this hotel everytime I visit the wonderful city of New Orleans!

Sweet little courtyard hotel tucked just off of Jackson Square. Great location, small lobby because the hotel is built around the courtyard and pool. Old school charm. Loved having my morning coffee sitting in the courtyard. There are several, so you can find a quite spot. The pool was refreshing after a hot morning in the French Market. The church bells did wake me, as it's only half a block away.

Room Tip: Courtyard and ground floor were the best.

First of all, this is not a chain, modern hotel. This building is nearly as old as the quarter and once was a boys school - hence its charming characteristics and quirks. The staff we dealt with were all very professional and friendly.

It's right off Jackson Square, in the heart of the quarter. If you stand outside the front door, you can see Cafe DuMonde. But it's also far enough off of Bourbon Street to provide you with quiet when you want it.

We stayed in Room 211 which provided us with a nice private balcony overlooking the courtyard and pool. We had two french doors that led out to the balcony. Because of all the trees and foliage, there was still plenty of privacy. Our room had a separate sitting area from the bedroom. We were there 4 nights and never felt cramped. There were 2 TVs. There was a wet bar in the sitting room, along with a refrigerator and a microwave. At night it was quiet. Occasionally people would sit out by the pool and smoke and talk, but I never once smelled cigarette smoke and I'm very sensitive to it, so I wouldn't let that bother you.

The only real negatives? The bathroom was on the small side. The plumbing and bathroom fixtures are old, but it's a very old building and should not come as a surprise to anyone who prefers the charm of older buildings with character. However, the water pressure was good. The furniture was a bit on the tired side, but somehow it went with the character of the older building. Maybe if there was new furniture, it wouldn't have fit in so well? The bed was extremely comfortable though. Our room was not accessible by elevator, but the bell captain will carry your bags for you if this is a problem. There are elevator-accessible rooms if you need one. The hotel does offer "breakfast." It is store-bought pastries, fresh fruit, coffee. We only ate it on one day, since we prefer indulging in the Quarter's famous brunches. There's a grocery store up on Royal street, just a block or so away. You could stock your fridge with yogurt and other stuff and supplement it with the hotel's free breakfast if you wanted to. If a "free" full breakfast is important to you, then pay more and stay somewhere else.

I love the ambience of the older buildings. I loved swimming in the pool after a hot sticky day in the quarter, shaded by ancient trees and brick and statuary. Then retiring to my air-conditioned room with ceiling fans and changing into something for the evening, contemplating what cocktail I might be having for dinner.

I would happily stay here again. The rooms are affordable and the location is central to everything!

Room Tip: Select a balcony room in the back if you prefer quiet. Select a room in the main building if you nee...
