“Authentic New Orleans”

If you are looking for a true feel of the French Quarter this is it. It has that local charm and great architecture. The staff was wonderful. The location was perfect - close, but not too close and very private. Like the rest of the city it could use some tender loving care, but a really nice stay.

Room Tip: We were upgraded on arrival - room 19 faced the courtyard with a sitting area - just perfect for our...

This hotel is beautiful and charming--we didn't want a chain hotel but wanted to be in the French Quarter for a more "New Orleans" feel.

My one complaint is the noise. We were in the very front room, right by the door. We realized after the first night that we could shut the giant outside doors for a little quieter room. It would have been helpful to know that the first night, but whatever.

All in all, a great stay! I guess avoid the front if you can!

The location is great, at the quiet end of the French Quarter a short walk to the jazz clubs on Frenchman Street . A charming hotel with equally charming staff. The rooms need improvements such as updating bathrooms and providing more amenities in them. There is no safe deposit box in the room and I discovered on checking out that there are individual ones located elsewhere in the hotel. There was no information provided in the rooms to tell you the basic facts about the hotel. The hotel could be fantastic if more attention was given to detail. It has alot of potential to be wonderful, and needs to be improved to reflect the high price.

We are very pleased that you were happy with our staff and our wonderful location and appreciate your suggestions, as we always strive for improvement. We do have in room safes in most rooms. The room which you were originally shown does indeed have a safe in the closet but the room which you chose has a lovely antique armoire instead of a closet. We cannot put safes in the rooms with armoires but we do have centrally located safety deposit boxes to accommodate the guests requiring additional security.
Your suggestion of providing more basic facts about the hotel in the rooms will be discussed. We have always felt that we wanted our guests to feel that they were guests in our home and have provided someone 24/7 to answer any questions. Perhaps we are a little too old fashioned and
should consider having printed matter in the rooms.
Thank you for the suggestion.

I love this hotel. The service is fantastic, and the location can't be beat. But if you are expecting a 5 star quality room, you'll be disappointed because most of the rooms I've stayed in are in desperate need of some maintenance. It really does feel like you're staying at your grandmother's house and she just got tired of keeping it up. The bath fixtures and phones and lamps all feel very circa 1980. But they're mixed in with some great antique furniture. The walls are cracked and need a fresh coat of paint, the wallpaper is peeling...and yet I will stay there again and again. It just really comes down to the feeling you get there -- it's quintessential New Orleans.

We are always delighted to hear from a guest who loves our hotel as much as we do. the feeling of quintessential old New Orleans is exactly what we strive for. To avoid a glaring juxtaposition between the modern amenities like bath fixtures and telephones, we do intentionally keep a more "dated" approach. the function is modern even if the look is not.
The paint and wallpaper, however, are addressed every year in our slow season. We like our exterior walls to show their age but they are painted annually. We actually go back and 'sponge" the walls in the reception room and sitting room to 'age' them.
We look forward to having you return "again and again". Please come soon. You will be very pleased with all the fresh paint and paper.

I have stayed here several times. I always book the same rooms, so I am not too well versed in any other rooms here. I book a charming and comfortable suite on the third floor and the room next door. Frette sheets, Leontine bed spreads, fluffy robes and morning biscuits and chicory coffee are the norm here. You feel as if you are staying in a family home. There is an exquisite salon downstairs that invites you to sit a spell and enjoy a beverage from the honor bar. A few things that I should mention- if you need to use a lift- the one here is very small and slow, and can be difficult to operate. I heard one guest whose room was next to the lift complain of the noise- so watch out there. And, in the suite on the third floor which I book- it does not have curtains- so the light in the morning can be bright coming through the skylight and shutters. This doesn't bother us, but it needs to be mentioned. I love the real New Orleans experience you get here, and you can walk out the door into the heart of the French Quarter.

Room Tip: Do not book a room next to the small lift.

This quaint hotel is flush to the street in the French Quarter. You have two keys; one to enter from the street and the other for your antique laden room. Enter into a lovely courtyard. At night is blinking with small candles in every nook and cranny. The lounge is actually a small library-type room. Liquor is on a shelf. White wine is in a cooler. Guests may help themselves and fill out a chit as to what they drank. Honor system. This is your own living room. Grab a book from the shelf or the coffee table and sip wine a drink and read. There are many books on the area's history and architecture, not the normal tourist guides. What is now called a boutique hotel, this 1800's group of old carriage house with balcony rooms overlooking courtyards is often listed by Travel & Leisure as one of the best hotels in the world. Egyptian sheets, down pillows, armoirs, drapes puddled on the floor, this is a classy place that makes everyone feel at home. My favorite. Living here, it is a joy to just stay there for a change of pace. Expensive and worth every penny. A light breakfast is served in your room or in the courtyard. Great homemade biscuits.

The public spaces in this boutique hotel are absolutly charming. The location is superb, in the quiet section of the French Quarter, and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
The room we had (#22), however, left a lot to be desired: it was very dark, two large windows looked out into a very narrow alley which prevented much light from coming in; paint was blistering on the walls and ceiling; the stain on the floor was badly scratched; the bathroom was tiny and in need of updating and the noise from the hallway was very loud since there were gaps between the two doors to the room. At $396.50 (including taxes), we felt this was a very poor value and would look for a different place in the same area next time.
