Hard to believe what's behind the door. The picture takers on the street have no idea what they're photographing. We were transported back in time when Calvin answered the doorbell. Gracious and kind southern hospitality. This property has everything you want for a complete getaway. The location is great! It's close enough to the action but far away enough to avoid the throngs of people and noise. The room was charming and we were upgraded to one with a balcony overlooking the lush courtyard. Breakfast was served on our balcony and couldn't have been better. From the staff to the 200 year old building this is a can't miss for your next New Orleans visit. By the way, leave the kids home and enjoy the romance and the honor bar.
We'll be back!!!

Room Tip: Ask for one with balcony overlooking courtyard

We recently returned from a night at the Soniat House. It was our first trip to New Orleans and staying at Soniat was like being transported back a hundred years...but in a good way. The rooms are beautifully appointed with antiques and look out onto a lush courtyard. Our suite had a jacuzzi tub and the Molton brown amenities are a plus. The staff were so lovely and assisted us with restaurant bookings and transportation. We were only in our room to sleep and it was a comfortable bed. I highly recommend this place if you appreciate history, architecture and ambiance. If you need Marriot type amenities (pay per view, pool, gym, etc...) then i don't think this is a good fit. The hotel is not open access in that you need to have a key or see the doorman to get in...so it is very safe.

Finally, just a note on location. Soniat is in the heart of the French Quarter, but on a quiet street, it's a 5 minute walk to Bourbon St and 5 min walk to Jackson Square. We also walked to Frenchmen st from there. Also, a taxi from the airport to Soniat is $33 but dont take a taxi cab if you're travelling in the quarter or to the business district ( you will be stuck in traffic forever, especially if it crosses bourbon st.) i recommend the bicycle cabs, they get you around and its nice to be in the open air.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It takes a lot of work to the Soniat House what it is and to receive comments such as yours makes it all seem worth it.
Since you were eith us such a short time you probably did not inquire about the gym. All of the SonHouse guests have complimentary use of the New Orleans Athletic Club. The NOAC is the second oldest athletic in the Country. It has everything including a huge swimming pool and a Spa for beauty treatments!
Please come back soon, stay longer and try it all. It is only 5 minutes by pedi-cab!

Im a New Orleans local and have traveled all over the world. I have never experienced such disrespect until my visit to the Soniat House. I knew that this was a beautiful hotel. I went to visit the hotel to use as a possible location for my wedding. I'm getting married in the quarter and need a get ready / honeymoon set of rooms. The Soniat House is one block from my wedding venue. The gentleman at the front desk was extremely rude to me. He made fun of the way I pronounced something. He told me I could view the hotel suite through the Internet, not in person. He made me feel small and unimportant. Yes, this is a beautiful hotel - but I recomend spending your hard earned money at a place where they appreciate all patrons. This hotel charges entirely too much money to treat people with such disdain and disrespect. Please utilize a hotel that has more gracious hosts.

There are plenty of options in New Orleans. Let's face it, this is a tourists paradise. But if you want to feel like a local and enjoy a quintessential New Orleans experience then stay in the French Quarter and stay at Soniat House. The location is quiet but close to music clubs in Frenchman Street. It's also close to the Markets. This is an exceptional establishment and worth the visit.

If you are looking for a true feel of the French Quarter this is it. It has that local charm and great architecture. The staff was wonderful. The location was perfect - close, but not too close and very private. Like the rest of the city it could use some tender loving care, but a really nice stay.

Room Tip: We were upgraded on arrival - room 19 faced the courtyard with a sitting area - just perfect for our...

This hotel is beautiful and charming--we didn't want a chain hotel but wanted to be in the French Quarter for a more "New Orleans" feel.

My one complaint is the noise. We were in the very front room, right by the door. We realized after the first night that we could shut the giant outside doors for a little quieter room. It would have been helpful to know that the first night, but whatever.

All in all, a great stay! I guess avoid the front if you can!

The location is great, at the quiet end of the French Quarter a short walk to the jazz clubs on Frenchman Street . A charming hotel with equally charming staff. The rooms need improvements such as updating bathrooms and providing more amenities in them. There is no safe deposit box in the room and I discovered on checking out that there are individual ones located elsewhere in the hotel. There was no information provided in the rooms to tell you the basic facts about the hotel. The hotel could be fantastic if more attention was given to detail. It has alot of potential to be wonderful, and needs to be improved to reflect the high price.

We are very pleased that you were happy with our staff and our wonderful location and appreciate your suggestions, as we always strive for improvement. We do have in room safes in most rooms. The room which you were originally shown does indeed have a safe in the closet but the room which you chose has a lovely antique armoire instead of a closet. We cannot put safes in the rooms with armoires but we do have centrally located safety deposit boxes to accommodate the guests requiring additional security.
Your suggestion of providing more basic facts about the hotel in the rooms will be discussed. We have always felt that we wanted our guests to feel that they were guests in our home and have provided someone 24/7 to answer any questions. Perhaps we are a little too old fashioned and
should consider having printed matter in the rooms.
Thank you for the suggestion.
