Spent the week after Mardi Gras here and had a wonderful time. The house is located in the "Historic District" with several well known restaurants (Sant Fe, Snug Harbour, Port of Call) within a few blocks. Karen, the owner/hostess was great. Since it was Valentine's Week, she had a dozen roses waiting in the room for our arrival.

Also, she was very knowledgeable about not only the immediate area, but the city as well. We checked out a great little place to eat, Le Penniche, that she recommended and we were not disappointed. The room, while not that large, was extremely clean and well stocked with coffee and juice. Fresh muffins, danishes, and fruit were delivered every day.

Planning on staying there on my next visit.

The Dauhpine House is great. We began our search for the right B & B here at TripAdvisor for a trip during Memorial Day weekend. New Orleans is an amazing, historical, and FUN FUN FUN place to visit, and staying at the Dauhpine House was just the icing on the cake. Actually, it may have been our favorite part!

The B & B is just a few safe, short walking blocks to the French Quarter. That is where we spent the majority of our time anyway. I twisted my ankle on the sidewalk our first day there, so we spent a lot of time in cabs, but the cabs are super fast (when you call them, be prepared to be outside within two minutes!) and very clean with friendly drivers. Call Yellow Cab.

We were concerned about safety, but Karen (the fabulous and very helpful and sweet owner) reassured us and gave a lot of great advice. We did not encounter any problems at all.

The rooms are all uniquely themed and decorated in a casually elegant, very comfortable style. Our room had a somewhat baroque, european feel to it with twelve foot ceilings, beautiful wood walls and furniture, a big comfy bed (we slept great), nice bathroom and a small kitchenette area that Karen graciously kept stocked with fresh orange juice, a variety of fruit, and delicious pastry. There is also a microwave and very good chicory coffee, as well.

The only thing to disappoint was the lack of ghostly presence! A couple of times we heard some creaking or a door shutting, but that was probably "real" guests elsewhere in the house! we hope to catch a ghost next time. :):) There is also a shady, clean, tropical-feel courtyard for lounging with a glass of wine...very romantic.

Karen allows you to check in at a decent hour compared to most hotels and B&B's, and is so helpful and considerate. She expects the same! The neighborhood was quiet during the day and evening. If you are planning to go to New Orleans for history, fun, drink, sightseeing, romance, and a very unique experience, this is a wonderful place to stay and feel "local" all at the same time. You won't be disappointed!
