“Southern Hospitality at it's Finest!”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

To celebrate a big birthday in style, we had a wonderful stay at the Southern Comfort Bed and Breakfast. A big part of our plan was to go where the locals go and eat what they eat!

We took her early advice and called her favorite (and reliable) cab service before we arrived, and the cab was right there to bring us to the house minutes after we picked up our luggage at the airport.

Cindee sat us down at the start of our visit, and with a map on the table to organize our day and phone in hand to call for reservations as she guided us to a most memorable weekend.

She recommended the most delicious restaurants, and she gave us a red hot tip to book a table at a restaurant (Peche Seafood Grill) that just won a "James Beard" award, which she said "they just don't give those away". It felt great to be sitting down enjoying the amazing food while others were told there was an over an hour wait.

We ate in style for lunch at Commanders Palace with her tip to dress up and get the 25 cent martinis. She recommended the local Garden District Tour, which gave us the history of the beautiful area and wonderful appreciation of what is unique to New Orleans.

We wanted to hear some great local music, and her recommendations on how to get a seat for the show and what time to arrive made all the difference! She even knew the musicians!

This was a first time for us to stay in a bed and breakfast. The house is absolutely beautiful and the gourmet breakfasts are devine The other guests and light conversations were lovely. It was so nice to have access to bicycles, maps, umbrellas and chairs to make our outings a little more comfortable. The home is located in a neighborhood with walking distance to a nice gourmet food store, an extremely yummy seafood restaurant, and a local coffee shop and of course the St. Charles Street Trolley. Staying in a neighborhood is a wonderful way to experience New Orleans with the savvy of a local.

Cindee and her hospitality made the big birthday. What a nice place to relax after enjoying all the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of New Orleans. Highly recommended.

Even with a sore shoulder, Cindee is still the best hostess in New Orleans. Her house is immaculate, the breakfasts are gourmet and the surroundings are comfortable and warm. Love sitting on the porch with coffee, watching the Garden District come alive. Best BnB in NOLA!!

We just got back from Jazzfest, which in itself was unbelievable. I have to say that our experience with Southern Comfort matched the musical experience. I booked with the inn about two months before the event and had spoken with Cindee (the proprietor) often who helped us with restaurant recommendations and get a good deal on Jazzfest tickets. Unfortunately we did not see her during our stay, but no matter, Jan the hostess was gracious, had some incredible stories to tell and to echo the sentiment of another reviewer, made some of the best breakfasts that i have had at a b&b. And, by the way i stay at many, around the world. The first day we had eggs benedict with sausage, the next day eggs again but with an amazing home made coffee cake. We stayed in the Plantation room. It is incredibly spacious; there is actually a small additional room with another twin bed which is also the entry way into the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, the grounds lovely. There was very nice common space and a lovely front porch where i spent some time drinking coffee and reading while waiting for my wife to get ready for the music fest. Southern Comfort is now my residence of choice when visiting New Orleans.

My husband and I stayed at Southern Comfort B&B over Easter weekend 2014. We had a great experience. Jann was a WONDERFUL and capable hostess, and we thoroughly enjoyed her company as well as the delicious breakfasts. On two days of our three-day stay, the breakfasts were so filling that we didn't eat much else during the day, but bought bread, cheese and wine to enjoy on the beautiful patio by the fish pond, where it was so quiet and relaxing after the long days of walking. On our last evening we did eat at the restaurant Jann recommended. We felt we couldn't leave New Orleans without having a seafood dinner. I think my face must have showed disappointment when Jann said she was planning to serve Crawfish Etouffee on the morning we were leaving (at 7:15) - But she got up early and prepared it for us to enjoy in the cozy kitchen before our cab arrived.

The dining room and common areas were very well appointed. We enjoyed visiting with other guests at breakfast. The front porch was cool and breezy in the mornings, and late afternoon the patio with the pond was our retreat.

Our room was very comfortable, quiet and private. I would highly recommend Southern Comfort Bed and Breakfast to anyone headed to New Orleans. Thank you, Jann

We considered several B&B's in or near the garden district for our Easter weekend (3-night) trip to NOLA. The B&B is in the Uptown neighborhood, two blocks from St. Charles and the streetcar line (it is partially shut down for track repair, but you can catch a bus at no extra charge to cover the area under repair). Unlike several (mostly older) reviews claimed, the neighborhood was nice and quiet, and we did not feel uneasy at any time. We much prefer staying away from the Quarter, and this was a great location. Easy walk to Magazine St. It is kind of a pain to switch from bus to streetcar to get to the CBD or FQ, but that should be fixed by sometime in the summer.

Jann is filling in for Cindee as hostess, and she could not have been more gracious and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent. We had to leave for the airport about 7:15 the last morning, and she got up early to fix a delicious kind of eggs benedict, but with crawfish etoufe instead of hollandaise. We REALLY appreciated her kindness, and enjoyed visiting with her.

The grounds are not large, but there is a small goldfish pond and shady patio with table and chairs that was very relaxing; we had wine and cheese there one night in lieu of an expensive dinner. The large front porch has a swing and rockers, and was fun to sit out on (at least in April!). Our room was of good size for two people, the ensuite was very large, and the bed was comfortable.

We had a great stay at the Southern Comfort, and hope to be able to return sometime. Thank you, Jann, for making our stay so memorable!

Room Tip: The Horizon room is at the back of the house, over the garden/patio, and away from street noise.

My husband and I recently visited NOLA with friends and had the most enjoyable experience of staying at the Southern Comfort B & B which is a gorgeous historical home conveniently located near the St. Charles Trolley and garden district. The innkeeper Cindee was not only welcoming making us feel at home and comfortable, she was always there to give us trip advice when we asked...even to spend time with us at her kitchen table after breakfast with a map for our daily sightseeing. Feel blessed we were able to visit many places which enhanced our time in New Orleans that we would have otherwise missed. Speaking of breakfasts, Cindee's were gourmet, full meals which we looked forward to every morning. They were a good balance of fruit/veges, fiber and proteins and very accommodating to individual's dietary needs when requested. My favorites were her praline bacon with french toast and egg casserole...delicious!! Breakfasts were so much fun sharing the past day's experiences with other guests who were always delightful people...like family providing trip ideas if asked. Can't wait to return ;-)

This Bed and Breakfast is located in the Uptown District of NOLA, but easy walking distance to the historical Garden District, and Magazine Street shopping. My entire visit here was outstanding, and Jann, the hostess, was very friendly, and helpful, providing any information you would need about New Orleans. Each breakfast was delicious, with a New Orleans influence, served in the dining room, in such a gracious manner. This historic home was a wonderful way to start an exploration of New Orleans for the first time.
