“Quaint Hotel and Great New Orleans Location”
Reviewed 27 July 2013

Stayed for a week in a two bedroom/one-bath unit. It's a bit dated, but well-maintained and quaint hotel at the edge of the French Quarter and better yet, at the base of Frenchmen Street. The streetcar stop is across the street and the French Market is a block over. Staff was friendly and helpful, and maid service is very good. I would certainly come back. The only draw back was that we had one of the rooms fairly close to the train tracks that run along the Mississippi River, and the trains do run at night and blow their whistles, however, we were usually pretty exhausted by the end of the day, so it made little difference once we were use to it. All in all, a great place to base a trip to NOLA and the French Quarter. We didn't bother with a car, but parking is free and available on a first come first serve basis. If you are travelling to NOLA for the atmosphere, the restaurants and the fun, this is a great place. If you expect flat screen tv's and get upset with a slow, old elevator, you might want to look elsewhere. Overall, a great trip and we will be back to the Hotel de la Monnaie!

This is an all-suite (one and two bedroom) timeshare property that has very good rental rates. It is one-half block from a riverfront trolley stop and a half block from Frenchmen street. We were at the Cajun/Zydeco festival last year which is held at the Old Mint and noticed this property. It is just behind the Farmer's Market and it Is an easy walk to the French Quarter.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the Esplanade side as the bands play late into the night on Frenchmen which is beh...

We had a tough time getting a reservation at this hotel. I think because it’s a timeshare hotel, it’s best to wait until 1-2 weeks prior to arrival to call and check for availability because the owners have to release their dates in order for them to be available. We made back-up reservations elsewhere then cancelled them once we were booked at Monnaie.

Our goal this trip was to take in the music and there is no better place in New Orleans to do that, than Frenchman’s Street, which is literally STEPs from the front door of Monnaie. I also liked the idea of having a kitchenette for coffee in the morning and a separate living area from the bedroom.

Deliliah checked us in. She was informative and nice.

All the sites in NO are very walkable from this hotel, but I recommend closed shoes - the streets and sidewalks are filthy. We consumed a lot of fantastic food in NO, so we took every opportunity to walk it off. The French Market was only a block away, our favorite place was Meals from Heart – We went there 3 times in two days! Their crab cakes are AMAZING (we would pick one up to-go on our way back to the hotel) and they also offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free meals.

If you smoke – this is the hotel for you. It is prohibited to smoke in the rooms, but there were smokers everywhere else, which did not bother us, but may bother folks that are sensitive to this.

The gym was enclosed and tiny (about the size of our bathroom and the machines were rusted). This was disappointing because I normally get up in the morning and work out.

We enjoyed the massive balcony/patio on the 2nd floor looking over Esplanade and the US Mint. We enjoyed a late afternoon Baily’s hot coffee (it was cold and rainy) and there were other couples enjoying bottles of wine.

Our room, #303 was dated, but well appointed. One area that could use improvement was the bed – not comfortable. The pics on TA are from the exact room we stayed in, so no need to post ours. We had a great view of the Mississippi River.

On Sunday/Mother’s Day, after we departed, there was a shooting on Frenchman that afternoon, 7 blocks from Monnaie. I was grateful that we were in Baton Rouge by then.

We were taken back by the prices of just about everything in NO. We spent a lot more than we anticipated on food and drinks and tours.

We LOVED the old style JAZZ and BLUES and Zydeco music along Frenchman Street. We also love the baked potato and burger at Port of Call, but wouldn’t go back on a Saturday night as we waited 90 mins to be seated. Seriously the most incredible baked potato.

We had a good time.

Room Tip: I heard a couple say that they reserved a room with an updated bathroom.

This hotel is several blocks from the the French Quarter. It is a wonderful little hotel that is also a time share. However, it is possible to book the hotel without knowing an owner. Their are one or two bedroom suites complete with a kitchen. It is over twenty years old now, but the maintenance is great and the people are wonderful. The wonderful part of this hotel is that their is actually free parking. You are near supermarkets and of course all the restaurants and clubs. If you happen to be in New Orleans during a slow week, try and book this place. Its is like a home away from home

Room Tip: Their are no bad rooms....

We finally were able to try this hotel and are pleased with location and accomodations! Only drawback was limited (small vehicle best) parking offered under the hotel. Rooms are actually previous apts so have living, bath, kitchenette and bedroom. Ours was on 2nd floor "balcony" so access from bedroom onto the balcony (not private) that scans the whole front of hotel.
Rooms were clean, staff very friendly. Loved the interior courtyards for rooms and small pool. Location is key for visiting the French Quarter/Market area. Also on the edge of artsy Marigny neighborhood. Plenty of nearby bar/restaurants.
Will definitely be back when in NOLA.

Room Tip: Some riverboat traffic and local bar noise at night so light sleepers may choose rear rooms to be qu...

We didn't have a choice of hotels during our recent one-week stay because a friend owns a time share here. But we were not disappointed and were more than happy with the hotel.

Most importantly, the location is perfect. Every day we walked through the French Quarter, which is without a doubt the most fascinating, beautiful, interesting and unique neighbourhood in North America.

The suites in the hotel are somewhat outdated and far from luxurious, but perfectly adequate. Housekeeping was just fine and the staff were friendly and helpful. The laundry room downstairs came in handy. Notable mention to our concierge, Camille, who was delightfully informative and charming. I don't think we could have managed half as well without her advice and help. She explained the pros and cons of all the tours, made our reservations for us, called us cabs when needed, and was truly a professional.

I would not hesitate to stay in the Hotel de la Monnaie again.

This is the most convenient place to stay in New Orleans. The hotel is across the street from the Riverfront Streetcar, the former Mint, the French Market and just steps away from some of the best food and an outstanding music scene on Frenchman Street. The front desk, housekeeping and maintainence staff give impeccable service. The staff are friendly and most accommodating. The kitchens are adequate, with lots of Community coffee, who wants to cook when the wonderful food is just a short walk.
