Hotel de la Monnaie

Hotel de la Monnaie has two very important things going for it. Parking and location. The parking is in a garage which is gated at night. Parking in the garage is FREE! Free parking in the French Quarter! Amazing!
The location of the hotel is fantastic. There is a street car stop right across the street. The French Market is a block away! The hotel is on Esplanade street, which has an exit off highway 10, so it's easy to access if you are driving.
The decor in the rooms is a little dated. And the beds are a firm. BUT, everything is very clean. The bathrooms in the two rooms I've stayed in have both been very large, which is great. I love having a bedroom and living room to lounge in after a long day of walking around NOLA.
The best deals on this hotel can be found if you are a time share owner looking to buy an escape week. We bought 7 nights at this property for under $400.
At one point, we were called on our hotel phone and asked if we'd like to buy our own week at Hotel de la Monnaie. The deal was great and frankly, I was very tempted, but I said no. The lady was very chill about it, no hard sell here, and we were not asked again the rest of the trip.

We found the hotel de la Monnaie through Interval and we thought we'd give it a try while we attended a conference in New Orleans. This place was a perfect location and it definitely beat staying downtown at the Hilton with the rest of the attendees. We were right on the edge of the French Quarter withing walking distance of the whole area. The location on Esplanade is more of a residential area so you are near the fun but far enough away to enjoy some quiet downtime. We loved the trolly car right across the street and we took that down to the conference center for the conference days we attended. We also took it up Canal Street and nearly delivered to the WWII museum. From there we were able to catch a ride to the Garden District - a must see if you love old architecture - beautiful old homes(mansions). We at lunch ate Joey K's there and it was excellent. We ate so many places in the French Quarter I can't remember all the names. My husband loved all the NOL foods - gumbo, jambalya and more. I'm glad we found the Louisiana Pizza Kitchen right on the other side of the U.S. Mint (across the street from Monnaie). Small little spot but excellent pizza! The day we arrived was a huge jazz festival going on across the street. However, once in our rooms, you couldn't hear any outside noise. Just the train at night blowin it's whistle! We enjoyed being so close to the French Market and within walking distance of all the sites to see. And you can't pass up the Cafe du Monde down the street - a busy happenning place with the best French dougnuts!!!Delicious! We will defintely come back and would stay here again. We were not hounded to purchase anything. My husband only received one phone call regarding timeshare and the woman was very pleasant. The staff was laid back and friendly. My only complaint was the very firm bed. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks Hotel de la Monnaie!

This location cannot be beat. You are right on the edge of the French Quarter, but not in the craziness of it all. Everything is walking distance and if you don't want to walk, the street car is right there. The neighborhood is also nice, I think it is coming back. The units are dated. They suffice, but with a little money put into each unit, they could be much nicer. They were very clean and we had maid service everyday even though we were on a timeshare. The service was excellent, we never had a problem and we were always greeted when we entered and exited. There is not always parking available in the garage, but there is a lot very close and street parking right out in front, usually. The building is beautiful with two courtyards and table and chairs outside the units. Overall, very, very good.

A friend of ours has a timeshare at this hotel that he wasn't able to use in January, 2007. He offered it to my (then fiance) and myself. We took him up on the offer and decided to get married while we were there.

We had a wonderful time! The rooms aren't terribly large, but they are clean and well kept. There's a refrigerator big enough to hold leftovers and sodas, a microwave and a coffee pot, along with a little sink. I liked that there was a couch and tv watching area that was separate from the bedroom.

The bed was comfortable and the staff was pleasant. They consistently helped us find our way to different things we wanted to do and had great advice for us. We also really like that the parking is indoors and secured. We rarely took the car out, anyway. We just walked everywhere.

They offered a GREAT deal on a timeshare that our friend shared with us and we snapped it up. We'll be going back every year (unless we want to trade with another property) and are looking forward to it. It's not a place to be rowdy, but it is quietly elegant and a little old fashioned, yet relaxed enough we can be ourselves.

Probably not the choice for kids looking for nightlife (thankfully!)

The home page reads "Our staff of friendly professionals will make sure that your stay in New Orleans is truly memorable."
I took my fiancee to this hotel as an overnight get away for just the two of us. The room itself was relatively clean but don't be fooled by "Jacuzzi tub" as it is not as luxirious as it sounds. A regular tub with jets is more like it. Also very old and dirty. Otherwise the room itself was adequate. The "friendly and professional staff" was something entirely different. We took a stroll through the french market the next morning and came back to find the maid in our room with "the do not disturb" sign in place. She said she thought we checked out and then stated "don't mess up my bed cause I just made it." Minutes later a rude employee from the front desk said he was charging us another day or to get out . The website lists a feature of 24 hr check in/out but that is not accurate. We were not told we had to check out by noon or we would be thrown out or charged more. Basically for $140.00 you get about a half days stay at this hotel. Can't check in before 3pm and have to be out by noon. 24 hours? I am from New Orleans so please do not allow this Hotel to show you southern hospitality as they don't have it. If you want an experience you won't forget but want to forget then stay here. For us it will be "Truly memorable" but not for reasons the Hotel will wants us to remember!

We booked a 1 bedroom for a week in July 2007. The room was well kept and had enough space for 2 adults and an active toddler. We were able to watch tv and relax in our bedroom after we put the baby to sleep in the living room. The living room was large enough so that we could set up our portable crib in the corner. Hotel de la Monnaie is right off the French Quarter and close to the street car line. It has a nice wading pool and a deck off the second floor where you can look out on the street. There are 2 courtyards that add nice local flavor to the hotel. The suite also had a small kitchenette- and there are several small grocery and liquor stores near by to stock up. I would stay again!

We stayed at Hotel de la Monnaie for a week. The hotel and staff was fantastic! The second floor, with it's garden atrium, balcony, and "wading" pool, was so pretty to come back to each day. The reviews I read did not do the hotel justice. When we go back to New Orleans, this will be the place we'll stay. Location was the best in NO! Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Just can't say enough good things about this hotel!
